such a wonderfully executed romance. it's so entirely believable that they've fallen for each other by the end, but the narration is so excellent at obscuring that fact that you cannot help but realize it with amy. there's a sort of awareness of it that stems from the genre and its tropes of course, but amy so believably falls for lauren completely blind to that it clicks into place almost in real time. all the pieces are there, just not any of the words. it's genuinely very hard to pull that sort of writing off in prose, but this fic does it flawlessly--and makes it look easy! it also ends at such a perfect moment. reading this feels more like watching a romcom than watching most romcoms released in the last decade or so.

She tries not to think about the cobweb she totally just felt brush against her hand, or the smell of Mari in her nose, so deep it almost burns. “Mari, did you know— I mean, have you ever had your heat before?”
Probably better to cut right to the chase, right? Jackie sees Mari freeze out of the corner of her eye, and bites her bottom lip, because oh, right.
Jackie is an alpha, and she’d convinced Mari to come here alone with her, and now Jackie’s asking her about heat, and this could look—
