He motions down at her leg. “You’re still wearing that. It’s…distracting.”
“You wear one every day - right now, even. What’s the difference?” she says, and he thinks she genuinely hasn’t made the connection. He is really going to have to spell it out for her.
“Yeah but,” he starts, scrubbing a hand over his face, “that one is strapped to your leg, and I can’t get this image out of my head.”
He hears her sharp inhale, looking up to find her eyes dark and full of something he hasn’t seen in them before - the usual sea of blue reduced to nearly nothing.
She steps around the corner of the table towards him, voice pitched low. “What image is that, exactly?”
Now it’s his turn to feel like the air is knocked out of his lungs. He definitely didn’t expect her to react this way, and holy shit it’s definitely turning him on.
He takes the final step towards her, no more than a few inches between them, and reaches down to tap on the side of the holster slowly with his index finger.
“You, wearing this-” he taps once more,” and only this.”

“Granger, please,” he says. So quietly she could almost pretend she didn't hear.
When she turns back toward him, there's something about the slant of his shoulders, the angle of his mouth that softens her by a fraction.
How many times has she wandered into bed with Ron? With Ginny or Neville or Dean? Harry too, on the rare occasions they let her go to Grimmauld. On those endless, sun bright mornings that seem to dawn only after the bloodiest of battles. Times when she's needed the warmth of someone else's body beside her to fight off the cold she sometimes thinks has burrowed right into her bones. Times when the thought of being alone is worse than losing, worse than dying, worse than literally anything else.
It never occurred to her that Malfoy might have times like that too. That he might need someone, anyone. Even if it's her.
“Fine,” she breathes, not meeting his eye. “Just keep to your side.”

Summary
Malfoy actually looks kind of sweet when he’s laying in bed, all defenseless and silent. Maybe Ron can see why Hermione had taken a shine to him. He wasn’t so bad with his mouth shut.
A strange sensation goes over Ron and he realizes that he’s feeling sorry for him.
Malfoy is more than unmoored by Hermione’s absence. He’s falling apart, regressing into some sort of manchild to the point that Ron is actually feeling a bit, well…paternal toward him.
Is this how Lucius feels?
OR
Becoming quasi-parents to Malfoy is really putting a cramp in Ron and Pansy’s attempts at actual baby-making.
