It was perhaps the most ironic aspect of his psychology—the man who spent his days making life-or-death decisions for a team of the world's most powerful mutants, who bore the weight of protecting both his students and humanity itself, craved nothing more than the sweet surrender of letting someone else take charge. To hand over the reins to someone else and trust them completely with his well-being, his pleasure, his very sense of self.
So Emma was already waiting for him to come home, dressed in that white slip of a dress he loved—the one that hit mid-thigh and clung to every curve like it had been painted on her body.
Tonight, he could forget about everything else. There would only be this. There would only be her.
