Lieb stared at the Ring in the palm of his remaining hand; gold serpents, one devouring the other, and one supporting a crown of flowers. He had always thought it was silly device and ugly, but now- the serpents’ emerald eyes glittered at him knowingly.
See, they seemed to hiss. You cannot run so far, you can never truly escape.
In the far North, the Ring of Barahir is given by the Last King of Arnor to Lieb Olmai of the Lossoth in gratitude for their aid. Lieb has been amongst the Lossoth for more than an Age of Men. In a previous life, he was once Maedhros.

'I have a Plan,' Oropher announced. 'In fact, it is both brilliant and original,’ he added with pride.
Maedhros put down the pot of red paint and looked at Oropher. 'Hm. I also have a Plan,' he admitted. 'This,' he nodded towards the drying paint, 'is just a distraction and gets me away from the family. My actual plan is brilliant but…not exactly… original.'
Oropher tilted his head with interest. 'Do you mean someone has done it before?'
Maedhros actually twitched and his admittedly very handsome face looked positively sheepish. 'Um. Yes. Me.'
'Ah, did it work then?'
'Er.. not really.'
'Oh?' Oropher nodded wisely wondering why Maedhros would repeat a mistake he had made before.
'And it is probably not …' Maedhros hesitated. 'Wise.'
Oropher nodded encouragingly. He liked the sound of that. 'My favourite.'

Oropher leads the protest for Rebirth and Return from Mandos. Maedhros joins in.

‘Did you say you had sent a copy of this to Thranduil?’ asked Glorfindel, looking up suddenly.
The old Hobbit stirred himself and blinked. ‘Eh? Yes, I thought he would like it and we have become quite good friends you know.’
‘Yes, yes I know,’ said Glorfindel with a concerned smile. He had seen the gifts exchanged at Yule and there was always something on Bilbo’s birthday, and the odd letter and gift when anyone had passed through on the Great East West Road.
He looked down at the page and chewed his lip.Barrels out of Bonds said the script, and there was an illustration that Glorfindel recognised; a drawing of Thranduil’s hall.
‘Did anyone read this before you published it?’ he asked, pulling at the lobe of his ear uncomfortably for he knew the story well and indeed had encouraged Bilbo to write it down.
‘Of course,’ Bilbo replied tartly and Glorfindel gave a tight smile and thought he knew exactly who had read it and that it was not worth saying anything at all for any damage was already done and he could not change it. It was one of the things he had learned; serendipity. What you cannot change, accept.

And one white tree.It is the beginning of the Fourth Age and the Golden Age of Gondor. Aragorn Elessar is King and he rules with his beautiful and efficient Queen, Arwen. Legolas is finally united with Elrohir. All is at peace and the lands torn by War are healing.
Except there are bonfires on the Barrow Downs and strange happenings on Amon Sûl. Rumours of tall strangers in Bree and Merry has disappeared. The Three Hunters are called upon once again to track down a missing Hobbit and a mysterious Elf joins them. Adventure beckons and they cannot resist.

Even after the bowl of soup served up by Närmófinion, Elrond was hungry and his little belly rumbled. He stared down at his empty bowl, scraped clean, but did not dare speak. Elros had told him they were only being fed at all so that when they were fat enough, the Red Demon could feed them to his hell hounds.
‘Or he will eat us himself,’ whispered Elros wrapping the scarlet cloak tightly about them both. It swamped them and was warm, like there was warmth or fire stitched into its weaving. Elrond noticed that the Devil did not have a cloak.

On the day of the New Year, it is told that Thranduil and Celeborn met in the forest where they rename Mirkwood as Eryn Lasgalen, The Wood of the Greenleaves. Thranduil gave the southern part of his realm to Celeborn, and kept the northern part as far as the mountains for himself and his people. The woodlands in between were given to the Beornings and Woodmen. But they must have had a lot more to talk about than that.
This is Thranduil's tale of the War of the Ring. Whilst he fights Sauron's army in his own lands, he is haunted by dreams of his sons; his youngest in far away Gondor, and his eldest, Laersul, in the west to hold agains the goblins of the Hithaeglir and Thranduil himself leads the vanguard of the battle. His middle child, Thalos, he has left to guard the stronghold. In case all fails.

It was a very small spider, Anglach told himself as he hurried through the palace, and Legolas will help look after it. Like he had with the hedgehog, and the black squirrel. And the bat. And although none of those 'incidents' as Legolas referred to them, had ended well, Anglach held his pocket very gently in case he crushed the small furry beast he had found on the Elf Path, looking lost and alone in the snow.
It is nearly Yule, and it won’t eat much. No one will know it’s even here, he told himself. And it has no one else. He glanced up at the trees to check if some huge Spider-Mummy was glaring at him with multitude of eyes from the trees. There was not. This was just another small, orphaned creature, like Anglach and his soft heart squeezed with pity.
The spiderling gazed up at him with many, big, wide hungry eyes, and gave a small, pathetic cough.
That did it.
A bit of Legolas and Anglach silliness.

Thalos looked at them suspiciously. ‘What have you two been doing with yourselves anyway?’
‘I have been engaging with the people of Esgaroth and enhancing the reputation of the King,’ Anglach said, stretching his arms and yawning. ‘I have told them how good he is and fair, how he loves his people and cares about the people of Esgaroth.’
Legolas opened his mouth to say that Briniel, the girl Anglach liked, was probably not very interested in the King’s reputation but he remembered his own secret guilt and chewed his lip instead. Had Thalos seen him, he would have known and the impending disaster might have been averted but something clattered outside their window and distracted him, and he was tired, for the Master was boring and had droned on about his petty squabbles with the King of Dale, the boatmen, the barge owners, the dwarves, everyone, it seemed, but the elves.
Later, of course, he would regret it.Legolas and Anglach behaving badly in Esgaroth and redeeming themselves in the Wood with customary silliness, charm and heroics.

In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.The One Ring has been destroyed and Sauron banished to the Dark with his own Master, Morgoth. But not all the Rings were destroyed with it; the Three made by Celebrimbor to counter the One are free now and there are artefacts still in the ruined cities of both Mordor and Eregion. And the fate of those lesser Rings is not known...yet. Against this, Legolas and Elrohir struggle in their new found love and not all is smooth. By any means.
Part of the Sons of Thunder series but works as stand alone too. References to previous events explained through the text.
