"No, I just never really got the sex talk. It was the 90's and everyone was on anything and everything.” McKay rubs at her knee, and reaches for the remote to pause the movie. "He was older, I wasn't. First times aren't going to be great. If you're lucky, it'll be decent. One-night stands aren't all that amazing because it's like starting at square one, figuring out what they like, what you want from them."
"Maybe I'll just sleep with a girl instead. I guess, I just want…" To be cared for, to be held, she guesses. She doesn't know what she really wants out of sex. She doesn't want it to be a mistake, for her to be that bad of a hookup, that they'll recount to their friends as a funny story. She pulls her knees into her chest as she feels a well of anxiety building up in her. "I don't actually know what I want."
Victoria turns back to the paused screen, eyes locked with a disgusted Phoebe Cates. Feeling the judgment burned onto the flesh above her heart.

"Want to dance around the living room, play some 2000's bangers, and do the cupid shuffle?" Cassie asks, elbowing Victoria. "I do a mean Dougie."
Victoria doesn't believe that in the slightest, but hey, maybe they can be embarrassing together. "I think there are better things to do while Harrison is gone."
Cassie just side-eyes her and scoffs. "There’s children nearby."
"You perv, I meant finally getting around to watching that new show on Apple TV."
Cassie wiggles her eyebrows with a big, cheesy smile, but it falls off her face as she spots something behind Victoria. Or someone's.

"English, dammit," Fury asks exasperated.
Dr. Richards coughs into his fist and straightens his back. "I compared it to all shape-shifters on record, and off too, but they're physically indistinguishable. Congratulations on being the first pair of quantum clones."

Summary
Independence is weird.
Because she has another paper to her name. Her record of never losing a patient is still held up to boot. But she has no one to celebrate it with.
She could crawl her way home and take in her dad's praise while her mom just passes her the salad as they forced themselves to sit down and acknowledge her. Her dad's words of praise always reminded her of how the beach's waves soothed her during her first clerkship at Berkeley. Rocking her back and forth, soothing her as she took a deep breath of air and let it surround her, the world falling around her as she went down and down.
Suffocating as much as it was calming. Familiar.
So she lies in her bed (if you can even call it a bed, it's just a mattress she ordered online, a pillow she stole from her last sleepover at her parents', and bedsheets from her childhood bedroom), and places her phone on her shoddily put-together bedside cabinet she got from IKEA, and listens to the waves. Hoping that it will be enough.
It's never enough.

Abbot finds Trinity about an hour later while she’s still working on those charts. She’s getting a lot closer to the end of her pile. Honestly standing up and helping with the trauma patient had done a lot, it had gotten her moving again, which was exactly what her brain had needed. Anyways, Abbot was leaning over the counter above the station that Trinity had taken over all those hours ago during the end of her shift. “Are you a night person?” He asked, flipping what looked to be his own charts.
“Not particularly. I’ve always been up with the sun. It’s calming.” Trinity responded, looking up to look at Abbot. “Why?”
“Just was wondering if I could poach you now that Robby’s gone.” He murmurs, like he didn’t just drop a bomb on Trinity’s psyche.
