Chapter 1: The First Text

Chapter Text

It all started with a simple text:

“Satou and Asui have to kiss or they will be punished.”

We all thought it was a joke. We laughed it off, thought it was a dumb internet person. Someone trying to get a rise out of us.

We were wrong.

So, so wrong.

_______

The King's Game, it's called. Not the somewhat innocent game that teens play, like truth or dare. It's horrible. Twisted. There's only one King and a lot of chaos. There are four rules to this version of King's Game:

  1. Participation is mandatory for all members of the class
  2. You have 24 hours to carry out the orders written in the texts sent by the King
  3. If you don't obey the orders, you will be punished.
  4. You cannot drop out of the King's Game partway through

These rules are strict, and more get added throughout the game. It's brutal.

It hurts.

_______

It was a normal day at Yuuei High. Aizawa-sensei was sleeping, and so was Sero. Kaminari and Ashido were annoying Kacchan, and Kirishima was holding him back. Iida was scolding all five of them. On the less chaotic side of the room, Yaoyorozu was working hard, Asu- er- Tsu was keeping Mineta in line, and Tokoyami said something edgy about the daily chaos of everyday life.

That's when it started. The whole class got a text from “The King.” Many people took their phones out. Iida was yelling at everyone to get back to work, but even Yaoyorozu had her phone out now. The text read:

Satou and Asui have to kiss or they will be punished.

“That's… weird,” Satou said, blushing. Though it was most likely a blush of embarrassment than any real feelings.

“Aww! Satou is so lucky!” Mineta complained, which earned him a tongue whack from Tsu.

“I say we ignore it,” Tsu said bluntly, “It's probably some weird prank from some idiot.”

There were scattered nods of agreement, but Satou seemed nervous, “Yes, but he said we would be punished. What do you suppose he'd do?”

Tsu shrugged, “Not much, I assume. Like I said, probably just some random idiot.”

That's when Izuku piped up, “Yes, but with what we've already dealt with this year and all the different kinds of quirks that are out there, it's a possibility that there's someone that knows what they're doing with this kind of stuff…” he started rambling, but Iida interrupted him.

“This is indeed concerning, but we should not discuss this right now! We are in class and we need to learn! Maybe we can meet up and discuss this later if need be!” he said. He made a lot of sense to Izuku, and others seemed to believe the same. So they figured out where they would all meet up, the common room, and continued with what they were doing earlier.

But everything felt tense.

_______

The sun was setting outside, and the whole class was present, even Kacchan, which was a real surprise there. It shows that even he is concerned about the text. Izuku gulped. This was going to be really stressful.

Iida counted everyone off. “Alright everyone is present. I implore you all to stay calm, and stay organized. I have Yaoyorozu here-” She waved- “To help keep everyone in line.” She nodded, and Iida continued, “Alright, people who believe the King is a threat on the right, and the ones that believe he isn't on the left.

The class shuffled around somewhat awkwardly, until eventually they got sorted out. Satou, Hagakure, Uraraka, Sero, Ashido, Kouda, Mineta, and Izuku believed the King was a threat. The rest of the class (sans Iida and Yaoyorozu, who were impartial) were on the opposing side.

Iida nodded, “Alright, we'll start with the smaller side. Explain why you are on that side. No one interrupt them, please.”

Mineta, with a smug smile, went first, “Well I'm on this side because I want to see Satou and Tsu-chan kiss!” That definitely earned him a whack, harder than usual. “Ow! Tsu-chan that hurt!!!”

“If that's the only reason, then you belong on this side,” Asui- erm- Tsu said. She sounded more annoyed than usual. Mineta grumbled and walked over to the other side.

Sero piped up, “I'm over here because of what Midoriya said. At first I wasn't concerned at all but what Midoriya said earlier was kind of scary, y’know? He had a point.” Ashido and Uraraka nodded in agreement.

Izuku nervously apologized, “I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare anyone!”

Sero held his hands up, trying to calm him down a bit, “It's fine dude! It may be a little spooky but we gotta know, y’know?” Izuku nodded silently.

“The King has a bad vibe. I don't like it,” Kouda signed.

“I agree with Kouda! He sounds pretty legit to me!” Hagakure agreed.

“I just… don't want to take my chances. I know this is awkward, Tsu-chan, but I don't really want to know what this 'punishment’ will be,” Satou said reasonably.

Izuku nodded, “Yeah. I agree with Satou. My feelings on the subject can be summed up with what I said earlier.”

Iida nodded, “Alright, all reasonable conclusions. What does the opposing side say?”

Kaminari answered immediately, “The internet is full of dumb people like this. It's obviously a troll! I mean, our names are out there, thanks to the Sports Festival and the amount of times villains attacked us. It wouldn't be hard to find our phone numbers, knowing so much information and about us.”

The class looked impressed, “Wow Kaminari, it seems like you actually do know something!” Jirou said sarcastically.

Kaminari flushed in embarrassment, “Shut up! I was being serious!”

“Please Jirou, if you don't have anything important to say, don't talk at all right now!” Iida interjected. Jirou huffed and crossed her arms. Kaminari, on the other hand, was clearly pleased with himself.

“I think Kaminari did great in explaining how we all feel about the text. I feel that this meeting is not necessary,” Tsu said in her usual blunt tone.

She didn't know she was killing herself.

Uraraka was the first to defect. Then Ashido followed, then Sero. Izuku looked up at Satou, “What do you think?”

Satou sighed, “There's no way I'm going to win this.” He gave up. He walked to the other side.

“Well that settles it,” Iida announced, “We will not bother with the King’s text. Have a good night everyone!”

Everyone walked up to their rooms. Satou still seemed uncertain, but there wasn't much to do about it. Everyone could only sleep on it, and hope they came to the correct conclusion.
