Chapter Text
"M-mom? Mom, wake up! Mom!" Four-year-old Midoriya Izuku sobbed over his mother's body. All he remembers is being in pain. More pain than he'd ever felt before. His mom hugged him, and he blacked out. He woke up covered in Inko's blood. He had no idea what had happened. That is, until he felt something brush his back. Curious, Izuku walked into the bathroom and stood on his step stool to look. His shirt was torn to shreds, sticky with blood. To his amazement and horror, there were four tentacle-like things protruding from in between his shoulder blades. He stared at them in the mirror his mom had put up right next to hers, so he could get ready without much help. He's seen other kids get their quirks, but nothing like this. Wings, longer fingers, and explosions were the most memorable to him. But this- this was terrifying. The ends seemed to be needle-sharp, and they got darker as you got closer to his body. The tips were a bright red, fading to burgundy, and then an almost-black color where his skin and the tentacles met. Now numb, the small boy walked over to his room, where the body of his dead mother lay. Not knowing what to do, but wanting to get Inko's body out of sight, he took his favorite All Might comforter off his bed, laying it over her as best he could. He didn't know where to go, but he had an overwhelming urge to run. He couldn't stay here, not anymore.
"Izuku! You need to concentrate!" All For One shouted from across the training grounds, watching the seven-year-old as he fought against Toga. The younger girl seemed to have an obsession with Izuku, but he wasn't creeped out anymore. Like him, she had been taken in by All For One after he found them on the streets, scared and alone. He was the father figure Izuku had never had. All For One had taken him, Toga, and Shigaraki in in the same year. They were fed, clothed, and trained to protect themselves.
Izuku yelled back, "yes, sensei!" As he dodged one of Toga's needles, slicing it in half with the edge of one of his pseudo-arms. He had become very agile, using his quirk to dodge attacks by using them to move around, giving him a chance to use his legs.
Fifteen-year-old Izuku stared at his reflection, wondering what his life would be like if he hadn't gotten this quirk. His hair was still damp from the shower he had taken a few minutes prior. He sighed, wishing he still had the vibrant green hair from before his quirk. It had darkened considerably over the past eleven years, and you could only see the dark green hue in bright sunlight, looking black most of the time. He was nervous. Sensei had caught wind that All might was looking for a successor to take One For All. He had made it very clear to Izuku that, if he were to have All Might as a teacher at U.A., he was to act like any other hero-to-be would. He needed to be in awe of the man. He was bringing all of his 'Hero Analysis for the Future' notebooks with him when they moved into dorms. Of course, that wouldn't be happening until the end of first year, when the League would attack the students. He would have to keep up the act of wanting to be a hero, even when attacks were orchestrated. Sensei had gave him a small analysis quirk to aid him with his notebooks. He wasn't excited about attacking Shigaraki and Kurogiri. He was close to both of them, as well as Sensei, Toga, and Dabi, who had joined four years after Izuku. Having Endeavor's oldest son in their ranks made Izuku suspicious of the number two hero. How could the heroes be trusted when one of the top ones abuses his wife and children?
He shook himself out of his thoughts, starting his going-out routine. Not many people had his emerald green eyes, so he put in deep blue contacts. He was still in the top ten missing children cases, even after eleven years. It was better to be safe, rather than 'found' and taken from the only family he's had. He put concealer over his freckles and under eyes, making sure you wouldn't see them. He had gotten rid of a lot of the baby face, but he used a trick he saw on the internet; using cosmetic tape to make your face look thinner. He put setting powder and waterproof setting spray onto it all, ensuring that he would stay disguised as Satō Izuku throughout the entrance exam. The woman who poses as his mother, Satō Hinata, had just about the same hair tone as Izuku, and urged him to wear the contacts and tapes to look more like her and her husband, Satō Riku.
He deemed himself ready, and started dressing in the clothes Sensei bought and modified. They were simple, just a form-fitting tank top with a low back to accommodate for his quirk, and- leggings? Izuku held them up and, yeah, definitely leggings. He shrugged and put them on, finding it easier to move around in this pair than any other he'd had before. He appreciated how the tight fabrics showed off every muscle he had earned over the years. He flattened his tentacles against his back, a trick he had mastered almost a year ago. He shrugged on a baggy hoodie and went to the kitchen, where Kurogiri was making breakfast.
"Are those pancakes?" Izuku asked curiously. They almost always stick to traditional Japanese breakfasts, like Miso soup and Gohan, but would occasionally have western foods, like pancakes.
"Yeah! It's your big day, after all, 'zuku!" Toga came up behind him and hugged him, to which he turned and hugged her back. "You'll do great, I just know it!"
Izuku grinned and squeezed her before letting go. "Thanks, Toga. You're my biggest supporter, other than Sensei, you know? "
They sat at the bar as Kurogiri set pancakes in front of them. She smiled and exclaimed, "of course I am! Nobody knows you like Shigaraki and I!"
He ate quickly before saying goodbye to everyone, heading down to the subway.
