Work Text:
Contrary to what people thought of him, Fushiguro is actually a very emotional person. He just prefers to keep it all bottled up, and he never really figured out a way to properly express them. Maybe he had a bad case of RBF too, but let's not talk about that. He didn't really have any friends. There were mostly old people in Jujutsu Tech and the second years were always busy. That left him with Gojo sensei, who bothered him to no end, but at least he cares enough about him, right?
When Itadori Yuuji came into his life, it was like the bottle he was holding up his feelings in, broke. He had known the boy for barely a month and he already made him feel all jittery inside. This is bad, really bad. Getting attached to someone, having feelings for someone in the world of sorcery is bittersweet, and Megumi didn't like that. Someone you cared for deeply will get snatched away someday, somehow. But he still ended up falling for the guy he barely knows right?
He didn't really think anything of it, not until Yuuji died in front of him. The front he put up hid all the emotions he'd been feeling that day. The pain, the agony, no one would ever know. Live a long life Itadori had told him. How was he supposed to do that? He knows a sorcerers life is always on the line. Though he could care less about the people, Itadori's words keep ringing through his ears. Will he ever forget the man he came to admire?
There was no time for mourning after that. The training for the goodwill event they were going to be participating in came and Fushiguro took that as a chance to clear his mind of what happened in the past few days. He trained hard, he worked hard and tired himself to the point of collapsing. Still his memories of Yuuji never seemed to go away. I miss him. Megumi thought every night as he lay awake thinking of Yuuji.
Despite the reoccurring nightmare of the death of the boy who'd change his view on a lot of things, he woke up everyday like nothing ever happens at night. No one seemed to notice so he continued to do whatever he does best, keep everything bottled up. The goodwill event was nearing and an unexpected visit from the Kyoto representatives was unusual to say.
'What is your ideal woman?' Toudo asked
There's no woman, only Itadori Yuuji. he thought
'A person whos moral compass isn't easily swayed' he answered.
He was sucker punched after that and it didn't really feel that painful. Well, not as painful as Itadori's death anyway. It was resolved after the second years arrived and they continued their trainings. They trained harder everyday until the event finally arrived. He was also getting better at throwing Yuuji out of his mind whenever memories of him ever came.
The Kyoto representatives arrived and the only one they were waiting for was Gojo sensei. It isn't really a surprise, he is always late. Gojo had brought souvenirs for everyone, again not a surprise. "Okay this is the last one! This is for my dear students!" he exclaimed as he pushed a big box towards them and out came the guy he'd been trying to forget for months.
Itadori Yuuji, he was alive
How? He had no answer to that. Fushiguro didn't know how to feel. He might have looked utterly bored outside but his head was going haywire! There was no logical explanation for this, he'd seen him bleed out and die in front of him. Unless- oh, Sukuna. That must be it. Megumi had no time to process all this in such a short time, so he simply did what he did best, again, keep it all bottled up inside.
Two days later, the event finished with Tokyo as the winner. Only then could Fushiguro think of what transpired these two days. He hadn't talked to him much too. He was still shook and they were busy with the games. Now he's alone with his thoughts and to tell the truth everything was just too much.
Damn, this is killing me
He couldn't hold it in anymore, tears slowly slid down his face until he was full on sobbing. At that point he didn't care if someone heard him. It was too much, too much.
I'm done for.

Itadori had been training hard too. Though only a few people knew about it, at least he was trying! He missed his friends a lot during the time he was 'dead' but he especially missed Fushiguro. That guy had been the last person he'd seen before his supposed death and he was someone he could really depend on, even when he was always grumpy bear. Maybe he's more of a hedgehog, a cute one at that.
Point is, he felt something for the grumpy Megumi. What he felt for him exactly, he didn't know. What he does know is that it hurt when he didn't react when he saw he was alive. C'mon Fushiguro! at least show me some emotion!
After the event, he was dead tired. He didn't really want to do anything but sleep through the next week. and that's what he would have done, if only he didn't hear Fushiguro in the room next to him sounding so broken. He tiptoed towards the door and opened it slowly. Megumi looked just as he sounded,
Broken.
This wasn't the stoic, emotionless boy he knew. Was this because of him? Did he do this to one of the strongest people he knew?
"Fushiguro." He whispered as he slowly walked towards the sobbing boy. He kneeled down and gave him one of his best hugs to comfort him. "I'm here Fushiguro. I'm here. I'm okay. You'll be okay."
That didn't really help, Itadori guesses. Megumi just cried harder into his arms and he only gripped him tighter.
"It's okay Megumi, I'm here and I'm not leaving again."
"You don't know that you dumbass!" Fushiguro screamed. "You don't know how I suffered while I thought you were dead Itadori! Dead! For months I couldn't sleep. You dying was the only thing I could see when I closed my eyes. My nightmares were always about you. My life turned into hell, Itadori. Now you come back here like nothing happened saying you won't leave again, but how do you know for sure! If I lost you once then I could lose you again! Stop talking nonsense, just stop. Please."
To say Yuuji was stunned would be an understatement. He was speechless. He didn't know that Fushiguro felt that way, how would he know anyway? He wasn't there.
"I'm sorry, Megumi. I'm sorry" he whispered as he hugged the now sniffling Megumi. "C'mon let's get you to bed."
Itadori carried the boy to his bed and was going to get him a glass of water when he was tugged into Fushiguro's arms. "I'm a wreck when I'm without you, I need you here to stay"
Yuuji couldn't help but smile softly and snaked his arms around Fushiguro. "I'll stay whenever you want me to, Megumi."

The two hadn't really talked about anything about that night. Opting to forget about it and started anew with their newfound relationship.
What they didn't know was that Gojo had snapped pictures of the two while they were asleep. It wasn't that he was there with that intention, he simply saw something that was worth remembering in his eyes. Maybe for blackmail material too. Oh well, we'll just see it when it happens.
