You aren't alone

Summary:

Hawks thinking about Christmas and its meaning for him.

Notes:

This is just a small drabble that I wrote in about an hour. It was something I've had a feeling for writing for a while.

Work Text:

The snow was falling slowly over the city and happy people was walking along with loved ones probably on their way to join up with family or friends for yet another Christmas.

Christmas. It was such a weird word for Hawks by now, his mother selling him to the commission and his father… Heaving a sigh, Hawks ran a hand through his unruly hair before taking off from the rooftop. There was no reason to think back on things that he never could have prevented anyways. The one good thing that the commission did was getting him out of that hellhole. That it got him into another almost just as bad hole was a minor detail.

Yet it was a detail that Hawks had tried so hard to keep secret, to a point where it was only at Christmas where his emotions slipped through his facade.

The wind was freezing and Hawks could feel it in his feathers that they were as happy about the cold weather that he himself was. Pulling the collar closer to his neck, Hawks finally landed on the huge balcony of his penthouse apartment. One good thing about earning lots of money is that you can get things most can’t.

As he folded his wings togethers some of his feathers cracked and fell broken to the ground, ruffling the snow out of his hair he gave a small flap with his wings to get the snow off before heading inside.

Turning on the heater, Hawks had retreated to the small nest he had made at one of the huge windows. It was quite funny that the first he did was to change clothes before making coffee that he could drink while being in his nest.

Hawks understood that Touya wasn’t going to answer a text from him today, not that he had texted him. As much as he loved his firecracker then he knew that some days was meant for family. Even if Touya’s family was as fucked up as it probably came.

Originally, he had thought about reaching out to someone. But it just seemed that everyone had somewhere to be tonight, so Hawks bit back his urge and simply curled up in his nest with a blanket. Placing the coffee down, he decided that he might as well handle the mess that called itself his wings before it got worse.

Sipping of the coffee in between straightening out his feathers and pulling out the ones that he couldn’t save. A small knock on his front door had him pausing before he stood up and slowly moved to open the door after checking who it was. The moment he opened the door, Hawks almost got jumped by Toga before Compress grabbed her collar and stopped her “Evening, Hawks may we enter?” The friendly voice from Compress was a strange contrast to how confused he felt when Toga and Compress entered quickly when given permission from Hawks. Though the confusion only grew as Spinner, Twice and a reluctant Shigaraki pushed along by Kurogiri entered afterwards “ehm not to sound rude but why are you guys here? Not that I mind but..”

He had only just managed to ask his question before two warm arms wrapped around him from behind and Hawks stiffened “Easy there pretty bird, I told you that you aren’t alone. I would never let you be alone on an evening like this.” Turning in the embrace, his eyes began to water as he caught Touya’s smile and he soon returned the hug as his tears of relief fell.

He was not alone...
