Work Text:
Y/N checked their outfit in the mirror. From what they recalled from hanging out with Megumi in the past, he always liked more casual clothing. So, they had slipped on a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and some converse. They ruffled their hair, as they'd never seen Megumi wear his hair any other way. Besides, that kind of stuff was exhausting for them.
It wasn't a very fancy date, but Y/N didn't mind. Megumi was a very busy boy, so they didn't get to see him often. He seldom specified where he went and what he was doing, but every time they had asked he had been quick to change the subject. Sometimes, he'd been feeling particularly impatient and had just ignored them. Regardless, they knew it was a sensitive subject for him, whatever it was.
As they left the house, they checked all of their previous messages with Megumi. They checked the small restaurant where they would be having the date to make sure they were going in the right direction. They breathed a sigh of relief when they did. Usually, they were lousy with directions, so they always had to check.
They then decided to message Megumi.
Y/N: On my way, can't wait <3
Megumi: Same here
Y/N chuckled. Megumi had never been a conversationalist. But, he was undeniably sweet. And... there was something different about him. It was difficult to see through his introverted personality, but there was a strength to him that was undeniable. They got the feeling that he could kick ass if he really wanted to.
Y/N had been a decent judge of character in the past. They had avoided people that felt off, and later realized that they were in fact nasty people. So, they trusted their judgement here as well.
After about twenty minutes of walking, Y/N had finally made it to the restaurant. Checking the time, it was 6:27. They were a couple minutes early, so they kept their eyes peeled for Megumi.
Sure enough, he was punctual. He was wearing his ankle high boots that Y/N had never seen him without. He wore a pair of dark trousers and a white, button up shirt. It was far more formal than what he usually wore, and it looked good on him. He wore a clip on earring with a dark blue gem within it that matched his eyes. He looked slightly out of breath, and he looked around wildly. Y/N approached him.
"What's wrong?" Y/N asked.
"My friends tried to follow me. I don't want them here." He said.
"Oh, let's go inside then, then they won't see you." Y/N reasoned. Megumi nodded, and the two of them rushed inside. They sat down at a table for two, farther away from the window and out of sight for anyone outside. The restaurant had a lively atmosphere, and many of the tables were already occupied. The mingling smells of food wafted in the air, and Y/N eagerly awaited the menu.
In the meantime, they hadn't seen Megumi in a long time, and they were rather curious as to why he was so anxious to get away from his friends.
"So, why do you want to hide from your friends. Are they bad friends?" Y/N asked. Megumi shook his head.
"No, they're not bad friends. It's just... they like to embarrass me. They almost tackled me when I was giving a girl directions to the train station. They thought she was hitting on me." Megumi explained. Y/N chuckled.
"Ah, those kinds of friends." They realized. Megumi nodded.
"They are good friends. But, right now, I need a break. How are you?" Megumi asked.
"I'm alright. Besides the fact I've been struggling with school a lot. My friends are similarly embarrassing. They probably think I'm using the 'they go to another school' excuse to quiet them." Y/N answered. Megumi nodded in response.
"Is school hard for you?" Y/N asked. He sighed.
"You have no idea, Y/N." He said.
"No, because you never tell me anything Mr. Mysterious." Y/N teased. He shrugged his shoulders.
"Fair." He admitted.
Then, the two received their menus and began looking through them. Y/N loved miso soup. What can they say, it's a great comfort food, and they could eat a whole lot of it. What's more, it was cheap, and knowing Megumi he would force them to let him pay the whole bill. It didn't matter how much they tried to split it with him, he never obliged.
When a waitress finally came around, Y/N asked for three small bowls of miso soup, earning a confused glance from Megumi. Megumi ordered sushi with extra ginger on the side.
"So, Y/N, is there anything in particular you want to do after this?" Megumi asked.
"Well, I'd like to walk around with you. Just hang out, we don't get to hang out often because you're busy, so, might as well enjoy it." Y/N said. Megumi's shoulders slumped.
"Yeah, sorry, it's just that... nevermind." He ended up going with.
"It's okay." Y/N said. Megumi gave no response.
"Did you hear me?" Y/N asked.
"I did." Megumi answered. Then, the conversation went silent for a moment. As much as Y/N liked him and all aspects of him. His beautiful, soft expression. His generosity. How overly considerate he was, and everything else one could admire in another, he was terrible in any social setting. Y/N was also an introvert, so they could understand needing quiet and time alone to recharge, but his ability to withstand social situations was nonexistent.
Thankfully, they knew him well enough to know that this silence wasn't malice or inconsideration. It's just how he was, and they were fine with that, even if it was a bit awkward. Besides, they could use these silent moments to gather themself for conversation as well.
Their orders arrived quickly, as neither of the dishes took very long to make. Megumi had far more refined manners than Y/N did, happily drinking up every last drop of the miso broth. Despite having ordered far more than him, they were done long before he was.
When he noticed they'd finished, he noticeably tried to speed up.
"No need to rush, Megumi." Y/N said.
"But, I don't wanna keep you waiting, you wanted to go on the walk afterwards, right?" Megumi asked.
"Yes, but this is nice too. I don't mind waiting. If you rush, I'm going to feel guilty the whole walk because you didn't enjoy your sushi that you're going to force me to not pay for as much as you could have." Y/N explained.
"Why did you bring money, Y/N, I told you I'd pay for these things." Megumi said.
"See?" Y/N asked. Megumi glanced around the restaurant.
"See what?" He asked. Y/N chuckled. He was so sharp, considerate, and observant. But somehow, he managed to be dense as well.
"Nothing, Megumi. Nothing. Just that you're a little too nice for your own good." Y/N said.
"No, I'm... I'm really not." He said, a bit of blush touching his cheeks. Y/N smiled. He looked absolutely gorgeous with a light blush on his delicate, pale face.
"How are you not?" Y/N asked. Megumi sighed.
"You wouldn't know, and I can't explain it. It's... it's just complicated. I'm sorry I-"
"Don't apologize." Y/N said, cutting him off.
"Huh?"
"Don't apologize. I don't care, and you don't need to explain everything to me. But I believe you're really nice, okay? And besides, are you going to dare tell me I'm wrong about that?" Y/N asked, looking him directly in the eyes. His cheeks grew more red and he sighed.
"You're right." He whispered. Y/N smiled. Finally, his pace slowed down again as he ate his sushi and savored every single bite of it. Occasionally, he would alternate by taking a piece of pickled ginger and eating it. He would take a moment to chew in silence before blushing when he realized Y/N was watching him. But, what else were they supposed to watch? He was gorgeous, after all.
Then, once he was done, he forced them to not use any of the money they'd brought along, instead using his own. After which, the two got up and left the restaurant. Megumi once again checked to look out for his friends who he was trying to avoid.
Once he'd checked the coast was clear, the two began walking. After a few moments in silence, Megumi asked a question out of the blue.
"C-Can I hold your hand?" He asked.
"Of course." Y/N replied. Holding out her hand. He clutched it. His hands had slight calluses, but his grasp was gentle and comfortable. Y/N laced their fingers into his and looked at his face. His face was bright red.
"No need to be embarrassed." Y/N reassured him as they began walking again.
"You're right." He said, but his blush only faded very slowly.
The two walked through block after block. Y/N constantly looked for something they could buy him with their money. Unfortunately, it was difficult to figure out what he wanted.
Eventually, the two found themselves walking in a park. It was quiet at this hour. All of the kids who had undoubtedly been playing there the day before had long since departed, leaving only calm silence behind.
"Hey, Megumi, I know PDA is difficult for you, but... are you okay with kissing right now?" Y/N asked nervously.
"I've never done it before, but I want to now." He said, his face shifting into a slight smile. Y/N loved his smile, and they never got to see it often.
The two of them stepped until they were flush against one another. And then, they pulled the other closer and into a kiss. They lay locked there for a moment before parting. Y/N stroked Megumi's cheek with their hand, and he eased into it, a pleased smile on his face.
"I liked that." He said.
"Do you want to do that again?" Y/N asked.
"Sure." He replied. So, they kissed again. The pleasure that came with it was just as amazing as the first. Judging by Megumi's reaction, Y/N guessed that he was feeling the same way. His hands grasped their waist, holding them close. It was gentle, but Y/N could tell he was a strong boy.
In the middle of their third kiss though, they were suddenly interrupted.
"FUSHIGURO YOU OBSCENE HARLOT!!!" A voice shouted. Megumi froze, and he rolled his eyes. Y/N looked off to see a trio of people charging towards them at top speed. It didn't take a genius to know they were his friends.
"Does this mean goodbye?" Y/N asked.
"Unfortunately." He replied sadly.
"Don't worry, we'll plan something." Y/N reassured him.
"Oh no you won't! Megumi needs to behave himself! But instead, we catch him on dates with mysterious people he hasn't told us about." The girl saying it had brown hair. She was using an angry voice, but it was playful in nature. Y/N crossed their arms as they saw what unfolded before them.
A boy with spiky pink hair was down on his knees, grasping Megumi's leg for dear life. The girl was squishing his cheeks and pulling them about. A man with pale hair wearing a blindfold watched (?) from behind. Megumi was completely helpless to the onslaught, and Y/N felt second hand embarrassment just being at the scene in question.
"Bye Megumi!" Y/N said.
"Farewell." He said while his cheeks were being squished. It made him look rather silly.
Y/N left him to the mercy of his friends, at least for the moment. While it had been cut short, they were happy that they'd been able to spend a casual date with Megumi. And who knows what they would do next time? Maybe they would make out with him? Maybe they would get to see him shirtless? Maybe it would be the exact same as this date? Regardless, they were more than looking forward to seeing him again sometime.
