Westeros Entertainment Today
Earlier this month, Weirwood Productions announced that the hit television series, Conflict of Crowns, would finally be returning for it's long anticipated fifth season!
"We're absolutely thrilled to bring fans back to Ancient Westeros!" co-showrunner Mike Casterly said in a recent press statement. "There's a lot more adventure and drama in store for everyone."
As die-hard fans are well aware, Conflict is based on the runaway book series titled Soot and Snow, which will be releasing it's seventh installment next spring. And it's author, Samwell Tarly, has all but confirmed two more books for the series.
But even with the source material read in hand, new details regarding season four have been kept under right wraps. Co-showrunner, Mark Hornwood, told W.E.T., "We want viewers coming into this new season with fresh and ready minds."
This statement is especially telling considering the issues that fans have taken with the show over decisions made with the script in season 4. Coupled with allegations of poor relations between production and the actors, it's no.wonder that season 4 has been rated as the lowest in the series.
But from all appearances, they're still coming back strong this time around! Though details of the script have been kept under very tight wraps, we do know for a fact that season 4 will have nine hour length episodes with a tenth premiere episode running for 90 minutes. Margery Tyrell, Brienne Tarth, Jamie Lanister, Theon Greyjoy, and Daenerys Targaryen will all be returning to reprise their roles with Ygritte Wild, Ned Dayne, and Podrick Payne all confirmed to join on the roster!
Longtime fans will also be excited to hear that the much missed Gendry Baratheon will be returning after his character's two season long hiatus from the show!
I was lucky enough to sit down for a brief interview with Gendry as he was in the middle of promo shoots for the upcoming season.
You've obviously been absent from the show for a few seasons now. How do you feel about rejoining the cast and crew?:
"We've always been a close-knit bunch. I still keep close contact with several of my co-stars, and it's been amazing to watch from afar and see just what an amazing job they've all done. So I'm really eager to dive back in and be a part of this show that's grown bigger than anyone could have ever imagined."
How much do you relate personally to your character Clovis?:
"There are ways that I feel like we relate, and then there are ways where we couldn't be more different. It's such an odd thing to explore, and the writers always seem to find new ways to make me dig down and find new motivations for him. He's a lot more ambitious than I am, and he's better at thinking things through."
It's hard to imagine anyone who's more ambitious than you!
"Well, I guess that's a compliment to my acting."
One of your last episodes featured a very intense sex scene that garnered a lot of discussion. Are there plans to push the envelope even further with this season?:
"Yeah, that was something. I think that's been the thing which has helped this show become the success that it is. It isn't afraid to go to those rough places. No one really knows what Matt and Mark are going to come up with next! So I think big things are definitely to be expected, especially for anything that has to do with Conflict of Crowns."
The studio has recently announced that they've hired on a professional intimacy coordinator to assist with the more risque scenes. What are your thoughts on this?:
"Yeah it's...it's great that progress is being made in the industry. Hopefully this will open up for more talk about actor's agency."
You don't sound very convinced on this.
"Well...I suppose some things we'll just have to wait and see about."
Be sure to watch for Gendry Baratheon on the new season of Conflict of Crowns next spring!
