Chapter Text
“Uhm.”
The polite gent from flat 45 was wringing his hands. Round and round those dainty fingers went, it was almost hypnotising. He was staring at the small parcel wrapped in unassuming brown paper, which Crowley was holding out towards him.
“This must be yours,” Crowley clarified, as if his presence on his neighbour’s doorstep with a delivery addressed to 'Mr A. Z. Fell' wasn’t indication enough.
“43,” Fell muttered, “I’m quite sure my handwriting wasn’t that illegible.”
“Handwriting?”
Fell frowned up at him. “Yes, on the order form.”
“Order form, sure,” Crowley agreed. “Anyway, the deliverywoman was very insistent that you receive this. Seemed to assume we were roomies, or something.” Or something indeed. The young lady had done her very best to stay professional, but there had been no way missing the knowing looks she shot his way.
“Yes, thank you very much,” Fell pressed out between tightly smiling lips. A slight blush was creeping across his cheeks.
“There’s just, hm,” Crowley cleared his throat, “they insisted on payment on reception.”
“Oh, of course.” The blush was visibly deepening.
Fell was staring at the parcel in Crowley’s hands as if it contained a ticking time bomb. Which it decidedly did not. He had tried to keep his expression blank when reading the name of the payment’s recipient.
Magic Toys XXX.
Well then, he certainly knew that company. But who would have thought that his posh, proper neighbour… Not that he could blame him. Wouldn’t in any case and even less so after the unsavoury breakup scene Crowley had had the misfortune to overhearing only a few days prior, courtesy of Fell’s open window and him drinking his morning coffee on the balcony whenever the weather allowed it.
He never thought an innocent word like Sunshine could hold so much contempt and derision. Not that Fell hadn’t given as good as he got, Crowley had silently been cheering him on for every sharp and cutting word he had parried his now-ex’s vitriol with.
Good for the man, to be wanting to blow off some steam after all that. He couldn’t help being curious what exactly Fell had ordered, had even gone as far as gently shaking the box, but no sound could be heard. Magic Toys XXX prided themselves on their first-rate packaging.
“Which I did,” he said after a moment of silence, during which Fell had been eyeing his delivery.
“Pardon?”
“Paying for it. I did.”
“Oh, yes, of course you did.” The blush was a blooming red now. It looked rather fetching. “I will give you the money immediately.”
“Nah, don’t worry.”
Fell was gaping at him. “Of course I will. This was far from cheap.” His mouth clamped shut.
Crowley’s on the other hand was happily taking over, ignoring anything that might be considered appropriate conduct. “Really, don’t worry. Consider it neighbourly support.” He winked at the seemingly dumbstruck man. “Let me know if I can assist you with anything else.”
