Work Text:
Some say that perfection does not exist in this world. That nothing can ever be without some kind of flaw. However, Link knew this to be untrue, as no other word could hardly describe this moment.
The clear, fresh night air filled his lungs, with not one cloud for miles to obstruct the mountain vista, or the vast starry sky that felt close enough to reach out and touch. As if reading his thoughts, just next to him a hand did reach up, lazily stretching skyward to grasp at the twinkling lights. That hand was attached to the main reason he could count this moment as perfect, the graceful, caring, and beautiful red scaled Zora Princess lying next to him on the blanket.
They laid atop Ploymus Mountain, the very same place they had both realized their feelings for each other so long ago. He remembered that time well, the lynel that had laid claim to the high peak, threatening the entire domain. He had volunteered to deal with the beast, with Mipha sneaking up the mountain in pursuit. It was the first, but definitely not last time that she put herself at risk for his sake, much to his initial complaint. It was hard fought, and they did not leave the peak that day unscathed, though they had returned victorious. And since the fall of the calamity not too long ago, they could rest easy knowing that mountain peak was theirs once more, and would remain so for a long time yet.
Memory flashing in his eyes, Link returned to reality, and glanced at her outstretched hand again. An idea suddenly in his head, he reached his hand up to meet hers. He took the back of her hand in his palm, gently twining their fingers before tilting their hands back to draw her attention where he wanted it.
Their wedding rings. Two matched bands of silver and gold, engraved with the traditional Zora wedding vows. At the crown of each was embedded a diamond, and beneath it a small piece of star fragment that sparkled faintly against the night sky. He leaned his head closer to hers.
“The most beautiful stars in Hyrule,” His voice barely a whisper, “Only a natural complement to the most beautiful woman in the world.” He turned to look at her, finding she was already looking at him. Eyes of amber and eyes of sapphire found each other, illuminated by the ethereal full moon.
“And it is only the most handsome, kind, and selfless knight of Hyrule who may claim it,” Mipha whispered back. Their hands separated as they pulled themselves together, arms winding around each other. They stayed like that for a long moment, just lying together, holding each other close, drinking in the sight of each other, eyes so full of love. And then, without need for further words, they leaned into a kiss. At first slow and gentle it quickly grew into something more. They had nowhere to be, so the most important thing in that moment was letting their affections be felt.
Mipha’s hand traced up his side, across his shoulder and at last arrived at the back of his neck. She quickly removed his hair tie, letting her fingers comb through the free flowing locks. Link in turn moved his hand to gently stroke her tail. The startled noises she uttered into his mouth gave him an immense satisfaction, as he felt his lips curling into a slight smirk. Mipha would not take this lying down. She redoubled her efforts, pulled into him harder, kissed him deeper, and boldly probed her tongue forwards to find his. She’d caught him off guard, and as their tongues danced between their mouths he moaned his surprise into her. Now it was her turn to smirk, and his to retaliate.
Finally, they broke apart, breath coming heavy and ragged. Again, for a long moment they held each other, beholding each other with hungry eyes. Eventually they found their breath again, and Link was the first to use it.
“What were we doing again?” He asked innocently enough.
“Stargazing,” She responded quickly. She then paused a moment, turning her head about.
“Oh…” She uttered embarrassedly, cheeks flushing a cute pink. It seemed that in their moment of passion, she had found herself straddled across Link’s body, almost pining him to the blanket. She made to peel herself from her husband’s chest. “Let me just-”
“No, wait-” Link grabbed her shoulder abruptly. She stopped to look at him. “What if we…” His hands went to her waist, deftly spinning her around with his impressive strength.
“There,” He said a moment later, “What about this?” She was still lying on his chest, but he’d spun her around to keep looking at the sky. As one of his arms gently curled around her torso, the other grabbed the nearby pillow they’d thought to bring and positioned it under their heads.
“I-” She took a second to recover from the shock of the sudden movement. She could feel her heart beating in her chest, loud and frantic. No, wait.

She could feel his heart beating against the back of her chest! He must have planned this, planned a way to bring their hearts as close as they could be!
“This will do fine,” She finally responded, trying not to let the raw emotion slip into her voice.
“Good,” He shot back, quick enough to reveal how he’d been hoping she’d like it too. “Just want to make sure you’re comfortable.” Another silent moment passed between them, the stars their only witness.

“Although-”
“Yes?”
“What if we…” Mipha reached over to fold the other half of the blanket over them. Warmth enveloped them, helping stave off the growing night chill. A breath of hesitation followed.
“This works,” He stated, matter-of-factly.
“Good,” She parrotted back.

“Mipha?”
“Yes, Link?”
They turned to face each other once more.
“I love you.”
“And I love you.”

They leaned in, sharing another, much gentler kiss.
They pulled away slowly, gazes set skyward once more as they gently tipped their heads together, resting cheek against cheek. Their hands found each other again, the faintest clink of metal against metal the only indication their rings had as well. They moved to rest across Mipha’s chest, barely feeling the beating hearts beneath.

Joined rings on joined hands resting atop joined hearts. Beneath clear, starry skies, they fell asleep in perfect harmony.
