Lex fought inside herself as she stood before the door of winifred's house for the better part of forever. Sighing, she shook her head and proceeded to ring the doorbell.
"Someone is at the front door" announced a monotone female voice from inside the house.
The heavy thumping of footsteps along with jingling was heard from the main hall. Lex's heart raced as the doorknob turned. The door opened, and there in the threshold stood winifred, with her golden retriever beside her, pink tongue lolled out as he looked at lex joyfully. Smiling, winifred pulled down her gaming headset, hanging it around her neck.
"Hey, what's up?" she asked. Lex's heart skipped a beat at the deep, raspy voice she fell in love with. "Can i come in?" she asked. Nodding, winifred motioned for lex to do so. Lex walked past her where winifred closed and locked the door behind her. The golden retriever barked beside winifred before running down the main hall. "You need anything?" winifred asked. Lex shook her head, walking into the kitchen. She pulled up a chair and sat down at the table where winifred also sat down beside her.
"What's wrong?" winifred asked, rubbing her golden retriever's head.
Lex looked up from her cupped hands and to winifred, blinking. "I need to talk to you." she said pursing her lips. Winifred nodded. "What about?" she asked. Lex gently pushed up her glasses, clearing her throat. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath not wanting to keep winifred in suspense like this. She tucked a lock of hair behind her pierced ear before crossing her arms, looking to her. The golden retriever fled, collar jingling down the hall.
"So," lex started quietly. "You're like, the best thing that's ever happened to me. You're amazing. You're hilarious and fun-you know how to kick some serious arse at pwning other players, and you make me feel wonderful. Whenever i'm feeling like shit, or when life's treating me like shit-you were always there-and you always had a way of turning things around and making me feel better. You're the most special person in my life. I know it's weird but i fell in love with you, like the first time we met in person. We had so much in common-and you just blew me away. And i'm happy we're finally together. There's just nothing i wanted more than this.
"But, i have to be honest with you. For the longest, it was difficult to tell you, and-" lex stopped herself with another deep breath as soon as she got closer to the heart of the matter. "i've been doing a lot of thinking with myself since our relationship...and i felt that i needed to tell you this sooner or later. And if you don't want to see me again after i tell you-then i completely understand. I'm not gonna hold it against you."
Lex blinked away her tears, and the tight grip on her wrist loosened after that. Her hand slowly reached for winifred's and lied it atop hers.
"Winifred," she looked up at her, with honest eyes. "I'm a trans woman."
From one side of her, her first instinct was to flee from winifred. But her feet were firm on the ground, leaving her to take in the suspense.
"Okay." winifred said, cutting through the choking silence. "So?"
Winifred's response sparked lex's attention. She looked up at her with awe, noticing the small smile on winifred's face. "What?" lex asked. Winifred just shrugged, nodding. "Is that all?" she asked. Blinking, lex just slowly nodded in response. "Cool." winifred still kept her smile. Lex's eyes widened, barrelling forward a bit. "Wait-for real?" she said.
Winifred nodded as she held her hand in lex's. "Lex, you're so important to me." she said. "You mean the world to me. Who you are will never ever stop me from loving you. Know that." Winifred let go of lex's hand, and cupped both sides of her face. Lex held onto winifred's wrist, smiling back at her. "I love you." winifred said.
Lex's eyes lit up like a christmas tree, grinning ear to ear pleasantly. She swallowed thickly and chuckled as she hugged winifred, who hugged her back. "Thank you so much, babe...." she said. She gave her a quick kiss before pulling away, stroking her back. "I love you too."
"You're welcome."
