Shuichi felt his cheeks heat up as he stared at his reflection in the mirror. Was wearing his hoodie too much? They’d been dating for awhile, but what if it made him uncomfortable? He was the one who gave it to him though. How would everyone else feel about him wearing it?
Shuichi couldn’t stop his thoughts from racing as he pulled the white fabric of Kokichi’s hoodie over his hands.
It’s just a hoodie, calm down. But it’s his hoodie.
“Go, Keebo, go! Be bold! Be brave! Be one with the water!”
Shuichi was interrupted from his thoughts by the sounds of yelling coming from outside his cottage. Shuichi furrowed his brow. It had sounded like Kokichi.
“W-Wait, please! Give me a moment to mentally prepare!”
And that sounded like Keebo. Kokichi and Keebo, that was never a good mix.
Shuichi sighed to himself, zipping up the hoodie halfway before making his way out of his cottage and towards the voices.
He found Kokichi and Keebo standing by the pool outside the hotel, Kokichi clad in his purple swim trunks and Keebo with a floatation device around their robotic waist.
“I could hear you yelling from my cottage, what’s going on?” Shuichi asked, approaching the two. “Swimming practice?”
“Yep!” Kokichi replied, popping the p. “Keebo insisted they’d be fine with a floatation ring, so I figured I’d give them a dose of reality!”
“Wait a minute!” Keebo sputtered. “I thought you were going to teach me how to swim, Kokichi!”
“Come on, a ring can only handle so much weight,” Kokichi stated. “Can that thing really support a slab of metal?”
“This one can support two hundred pounds and I weigh one hundred ninety six, so I should be golden,” Keebo announced proudly.
“In other words, just barely,” Shuichi muttered, earning a snicker from Kokichi.
“So if I wanted a piggyback ride, we’d sink. Great,” Kokichi stated. “You need to consider these things! Seriously!”
“No!” Keebo exclaimed. “No piggyback rides in the pool! I shouldn’t even have to consider that!”
“Worst case, your feet will touch the bottom,” Shuichi muttered.
Keebo groaned. “Way to be on my side, Saihara.”
“Come on! Just do it already!” Kokichi urged. “Or do I need to get my shove on?”
“No thanks, I’ll do this myself,” Keebo announced proudly, stepping closer to the edge of the pool. “Alright, here goes nothing.”
Keebo braced themself as they stared down at their reflection in the water.
Shuichi watched as Kokichi creeped up behind them, a mischievous look in his eye. They made eye contact, Kokichi putting a finger to his lips, telling Shuichi to stay quiet. Shuichi shook his head in response.
Kokichi didn’t listen though.
“One and two and-“
“Hiiiyah!” Kokichi yelled, shoving Keebo into the pool.
“Kokichi!” Shuichi exclaimed as Keebo’s scream was muffled by the water.
“What?” Kokichi asked, giggling.
Shuichi rolled his eyes, stepping towards the edge of the pool where Keebo had resurfaced and crouching down, reaching his hand out for them to grab. “Are you okay, Keebo? Don’t worry, just take my hand and-“
“Round two,” he heard Kokichi cheer from behind him. “Hiiiyah!”
Next thing Shuichi knew, he was falling and his vision was blurry. The detective squeezed his eyes shut as he felt the burn of chlorine, swimming upwards until he felt the air on his face again.
Shuichi took a big breath of air as he opened his eyes again. Having to squint from the change in lighting, he turned his attention back to his small boyfriend, who was still standing by the edge of the pool.
“Kokichi, what are you doing?” he asked.
Kokichi didn’t answer, instead shouting, “And last but not least! Hiiiyah!”
Shuichi barely had time to shield his already soaked face before Kokichi ran and jumped over the edge, tucking his knees to his chin and cannonballing into the pool.
When he lowered his arms, Kokichi had already resurfaced, drenched strands of purple hair sticking to his face as he grinned brightly, despite Keebo’s piercing glare.
Shuichi sighed. “Good thing I wore a swimsuit.”
“A near death experience wasn’t in my plans,” Keebo muttered, having already climbed out of the pool and now dripping water onto the concrete. “That was scary and I don’t even need to breathe.”
“I guess it wasn’t the MOST boring thing ever,” Kokichi mused apathetically, twirling a strand of soaked purple hair around his finger.
“Says you!” Keebo exclaimed. “Please refrain from pulling childish pranks next time.”
“Those ‘childish pranks’ are just part of being everyday high school kids! A part of life itself!” Kokichi argued.
“I mean I guess you have a point,” Keebo grumbled.
“You definitely won’t get to do things like this once you’re an adult, that’s for sure,” Shuichi mumbled.
“It’s our last school event, so let’s make the most of it!” Kokichi exclaimed, raising his arms in the air. “Besides, it's not like Keebo can drown.”
“Fine but is the robophobia really necessary?” Keebo groaned before stomping away towards their cottage.
Shuichi sighed once they were out of sight. “Did you really have to push us in?”
“Of course I did!” Kokichi argued. “I just wanted to make sure you guys had fun.”
“That’s a lie though, isn’t it?”
“You got me! In reality,” Kokichi’s voice lowered as he ran a finger down Shuichi’s clothed chest, “white becomes see through when it gets wet.”
Shuichi’s face caught on fire. “You’ve seen my chest plenty of times.”
“Never gets old.” Kokichi swam closer to the blue haired boy, wrapping his arms around his shoulders and resting his head against his chest. “Also don’t think for a moment I didn’t notice what you’re wearing.” He tugged on the edge of the white hoodie.
Shuichi just whined in response, burying his face in his hands. Kokichi giggled, wrapping his hands around Shuichi’s wrists and pulling his hands away from his face.
“You’re so cute,” he whispered softly, pressing a kiss to his cheek.
Shuichi just groaned, shoving his head into Kokichi’s shoulder. Kokichi was always so affectionate, Shuichi didn’t think he’d ever get used to it.
“Plus,” Kokichi continued, his voice lowering to that tone again, “seeing you in my clothes is making me feel a certain way.”
“Kokichi,” Shuichi whined, wrapping his arms around the smaller boy’s waist.
Kokichi just laughed. “Kidding, kidding. Kind of,” he muttered the last part.
“Can we just get out of the pool now?” Shuichi whined.
“Sure, beloved,” Kokichi chriped, untangling himself from his boyfriend as they both navigated towards the pool ladder.
Once they were out of the pool and dripping onto the concrete, Kokichi slid his hands onto Shuichi’s hips, placing his chin on the blue haired boy’s chest and looking up at him. “You’re not too mad about being pushed in, right?”
Shuichi just sighed, bringing a hand up to run fingers through Kokichi’s hair. He leaned down, pressing a soft kiss against the other boy’s lips. “You’re lucky I love you.”
