Work Text:
You wake up to a world that is gray and drizzly outside the bedroom window. As you come to your senses, you realize something feels off about the energy of the room, and you turn over to find the other side of the bed empty. You must have been sleeping hard for Zhongli to get himself together without your waking. Not that you really mind, but it is a little disappointing to not have your regular wake-up snuggles. As you come to your senses, you remember you have the whole day off to make up for it.
You swing your feet over the bed and sit up, trying to force your sleepy brain into motion to recall if there were any errands that needed to be run and if you'll be able to accomplish them with the rain, but your thoughts feel sluggish. The dim gray light from the weather makes it impossible to tell just how late you may have slept in. You shake your head and decide the best way to wake up is to start moving. Your groggy brain will catch up eventually.
You head straight from the bed to the main living area in search of your husband. Hearing gentle clinks from the kitchen, you change course. Zhongli stands with his back to the sink, and you smile upon finding him.
"Good morning," you call cheerily, your bare feet padding on the tile.
At your voice, Zhongli turns around. His eyes and lips are smiling gently—and then your gaze flickers lower, and you freeze.
"Good morning, dearest."
He wore his favorite pair of comfy pants and his black silk robe…but without any sort of shirt beneath it. When he turned, you weren't expecting to behold such a large selection of your husband's bare skin. However, it doesn't take you long to recover.
"Well this is a pleasant surprise." you say. "Usually when I sleep in, you're already fully dressed by the time I come out."
"I am fully dressed." A smirk twitches at the corner of his mouth as Zhongli holds his arms open. "Enough for today's activities at least."
Without a second thought you step into his embrace, resting your hands on the warm skin of his chest so graciously exposed by the deep plunge of his robe.
"Oh?" You try to sound innocent and surprised, but you can feel the warmth of your face belying your true emotions.
Zhongli wraps his arms around you, the silk fabric draping over his toned musculature. He lifts his chin to rest it on your head. "Indeed. It's looking to be a full day too." He adopts a matter of fact tone as he begins listing his itinerary. "First I intend on assisting you with your breakfast, then we'll retire to the living room for a lengthy snuggle session. Afterwards shall be several hours spent on the couch reading, then when we feel it is time for a change in scenery, I will get up and make a pot of tea, which I shall bring out to the porch to enjoy the sounds of rain with you seated upon my lap…"
You don't hear anything further than that over the sound of your own laughter. You shake in his arms, your face buried into his shoulder and hands clutching the fabric of his robe to try and ground yourself. It's an all-consuming giggle fit that takes you a full minute to recover even enough to look up at him. His smile of success is broad enough to reveal his teeth, and his eyes are positively dancing. Gone is the pompous air—all a ploy to achieve exactly this effect.
"My," you start, your struggle to regain control broken by intermittent giggles that you don't truly wish to cease, "sounds like we have quite a full day ahead of us."
"Indeed," Zhongli responds without a beat, "so we best get started, love." When he presses his lips to your cheek, you feel them still upturned in joy.
