Crimson Reflections

Summary:

As Yukari tends to Hakurei's wounds, she reflects on the fates of previous shrine maidens.

Work Text:

Reimu pouted. "I'm fine!" She exclaimed, numerous scars and burns adorning her body after excising a rogue youkai terrorizing the village.

"Don't be so difficult!" Yukari exclaimed, attempting to bandage Hakurei's wounds. "Turn your back to me."

"Fine..." Reimu grumbled, performing the aforementioned request.

Yukari attempted to lift Reimu's blouse, the latter immediately lowering the garment in anger. "Pervert!" Reimu screamed.

"How am I supposed to clean you if you get upset?"

Reimu blushed. "Fine..." Promptly revealing her chest, her back turned to Yukari's seated position.

Yukari frowned, unwrapping Reimu's sarashi, a deep gash resembling a large animal's claw adorning her backside. "I don't think bandages will fix this."

"They're just scratches..." Reimu whispered.

The red of Reimu's wounds matched her crimson blouse. However, to Yukari, red meant blood of Hakurei's fallen predecessors, the blood staining her clothing as one generation after another fell prior to the spell card rules. Each instance a failure on her part.

Yukari watched over Reimu since her birth, taking it upon herself to care for Reimu ever since her parents fell to the darkness youkai, Hakurei thankfully having no recollection of her childhood.

"Do you mind if I do this? It might sting~" Yukari said, her tone sultry.

"What are you implying!" Reimu exclaimed, her face red as the blood oozing from her wound, Reimu crying in pain from her seated position.

Yukari did her best to maintain composure, embracing Reimu and placing a kiss upon her shoulder. "I know it hurts, you don't need to hold it within, I won't judge you." Tears streaming from Reimu's eyes.

The entire spellcard proposal was a gamble. However, it was a gamble Yakumo was willing to take, a gamble for peace between humans and youkai. Above all, a gamble for Hakurei's survival and happiness.

Yukari winced as Reimu whimpered and cried with each application of the bandages, the sounds reminding them of the last sounds of previous Hakurei generations.

After Hakurei's bandages were applied, Yukari promptly hugged Reimu. "You did great." Emerging from her seated position. "Let me give you a change of clothes."

"Why are you being so nice to me tonight, hag..." Reimu muttered, her tone still filled with sobbing, Yukari bringing her a change of Juban. "It would be bad for you to be hurt."

"I can take care of myself," Reimu said, changing into the clothing without any care for modesty. "You can go now!"

Yukari smiled. "You don't have to lie to me." Promptly changing into her purple nightgown, utilizing her boundary abilities. "You don't have to be alone."

Reimu looked downward. "You're looking down on me..." Seated on her futon.

Yukari promptly kneeled down and hugged Reimu, giving Hakurei a kiss on the forehead. "Hearing you cry is like my soul being exterminated."

"Are you telling the truth?"

"Your happiness is my responsibility, if staying the night will keep you happy, then that is my objective." Yukari promptly entering the bedding. "You need some rest."

Reimu joined Yukari under the covers, Yakumo embracing hakurei, kissing Reimu on the forehead. "I'm going to be with you."

"Are you sure?" Reimu whispered, planting her face into Yukari's chest.

"Gensokyo wouldn't be here if I wasn't" Yukari whispered, hugging Reimu tighter, comforting Hakurei as she drifted into dream.
