A girl can dream

Summary:

Apparently love is in the air for everyone but her.

How silly, a romance novelist who's never fallen in love.

Work Text:

Mary-Beth was glad to see Sean's return, the party seemed to bring people into a more relaxed atmosphere. Yes there were still Pinkertons after them, but at the moment. The gang was Happy.

The young lady had seated herself near the edge of camp, just a little ways from the main fire. The tree behind her giving some level of comfort, the grass soft on her skin. She was content, just watching from afar peacefully.

Though that peace was soon interrupted when she began to notice some things.

At first, she was looking at Sean, cheerfully singing at the fire with Karen on his lap. They looked happy with eachother, it was a nice sight to say the least.
They would smile and laugh, Karen occasionally insulting his singing, a playful tinge to her voice.

Soon her attention flipped over to the reverend, dreamily staring at Miss Grimshaw. It was clear as the sky is blue that he loved her, anyone could see it. If she felt the same was however, left a mystery Mary-Beth found herself longing for an awnser to. To know if this story had a happy ending.

Her eyes drifted over to John, Who was sitting at a table laughing with Bill about goodness knows what. She knew that even with the arguing, Abigail and John loved each other. She found the situation bittersweet, two lovers teetering on the edge of disaster but longing for equal ground to stand.

She often wondered what people would look like if life was different, and in that scenario, the couple often ended with a smal ranch and a stable family. The woman loved imagining her friends happy, away from the life they've been forced to live.

The woman found herself thinking of Arthur, of the mysterious lady writing to him. In a way, she pitied her. She felt bad because Arthur didn't reciprocate her feelings, at least, not anymore. That much was clear by the image of Arthur and Charles sitting by the scout campfire, gazing at eachother, hands interlocked.

It was a nice sight, to see the two hardest working men at camp finally relaxing. Perhaps she should write a book inspired by that?

Javier, who was singing some silly romance song, had been muffled by Dutch's music. This sudden change snapped her out of her trance, her gaze pulled to Molly and Dutch dancing in the moonlight. In her opinion, it looked like it was riled straight out of one of her novels!

She watched as Dutch whispered in Molly's ear, twirling her around as she giggled. It was a sweet scene Mary-Beth couldn't wait to experience.

...Now that she thinks of it, Mary-Beth has never been in love. She writes all types of romance, well aspires to, but how can one write something never experienced?

Will she ever find love? Oh goodness that was a scary thought...

At that point the young author decided to call it a night before she stressed too much.

Surely she'd find it one day! It happens to everyone!

.. right...?
