Chapter Text
I'd decided against streaming today. I hadn't had one planned, but was debating doing one anyways. Though I wasn't in the mood for the typical Apex stream.
I was playing on a survival world I'd had set to peaceful so I could farm and build without having to worry about getting blown up by creepers every five seconds. In the background I had Emma's stream going.
She was playing among us with some other content creators that had blown up because of the game. I'd checked out a few of them, and wound up watching their content regularly. However, I'd actually been watching Corpse for years. His horror story narrations had been the background noise to everything from cooking to study sessions to trying to come down from a panic attack. Seeing him blow up made me happy, he deserved the success, though I still felt some disappointment over the fact that he was no longer something only a few of us knew about.
So knowing Emma, someone I'd been close with for years, was friends with him had certainly been shocking. She wasn't aware of the fact that he had been a comfort creator for me for years, and I wasn't planning on telling her. But I liked seeing their interactions.
I'd been only half paying attention to the stream, focused mostly on trying to finish up the building I'd created for my bee farm. I was jolted from my concentration upon hearing Emma say my name.
"...y/u/n who might be up for it. They're pretty chill."
Wait, what was going on?
I reminded the stream a bit to see that they were trying to find someone to fill in the tenth spot as someone else had to leave unexpectedly. Why was Emma suggesting me? Surely the others had plenty of people who'd love to step in.
My phone ringing with a call from Emma sent anxiety spiking in my stomach.
"Hey! I've been playing among us and we could use another person. You in? Everyone is really nice, you should practice some positive socializing."
I hesitated.
"I'm not sure..." I said, "Aren't there others they already know who'd like to be there?"
"Yeah probably but I'd like you to be here. Would be nice to have more than just one person I'm comfortable with here."
"Emma..."
"Come on y/n it'll be great. You'll only really have to talk in meetings and I can just talk for you. I promise I'll kill you first when I get imposter."
You chuckled at that.
Your anxiety was telling you it'd be a disaster, but you also knew Emma would be there and would let you leave if you needed to. Your therapist had also suggested getting out of your comfort zone occasionally.
Surely it couldn't be that bad?
"Alright, I guess I can play a few games."
"Dude fuck yeah! Give me a second, I'll get you in the discord and everything." She said excitedly.
After a few minutes of getting everything in order, starting your stream after some pressure from Emma, and figuring out the proximity chat mod, your mouse hovered over the vc everyone was in.
"OK chat, welcome to a surprise among us stream I was not aware was happening until a few minutes ago. I'm meeting new people. Let's see how much of a train wreck this is." You joked.
"Alright y/n you got this. It'll be a one time thing so it's no big deal. Have fun with it. You can even kill Emma a few times for getting you to do this." You thought to yourself before finally clicking on the tab.
"There they are, everyone this is y/u/n, small time Twitch streamer and epic gamer." Emma introduced you.
You took a deep breath.
"Um hi, thanks for having me." You said. You cringed at the clear awkwardness and uncomfort in your voice. But the barrage if happy hellos and welcomes eased it.
"Wow, no reaction to Corpses voice huh? Thats a first." Someone laughed. You were pretty sure it was Rae.
You joined in on the laughter as everyone chuckled, not really wanting to explain you were a fan.
After a few moments the game started and you were greeted with the starting screen.
Just an average crewmate this time, no pressure on the first game thankfully.
"Ok chat let's do some tasks and try not to die immediately."
