This isn't goodbye

Summary:

If someone would have told Sawamura two years ago that Miyuki leaving would get him upset he had laughed at them. Back then he would have been happy to get rid of his teasing and stupid smirk, at least he told his self so, but now it seemed like the worst thing ever

Work Text:

Sawamura Eijun stood under a cherry blossom tree while watching the rest of the team bade their goodbyes to the 3rd years after their graduation. Even through the fact that most of them were crying, they all had smiles on their face.

But not Sawamura.

He didn’t understood why, but when he had to watch the 3rd years leave one year ago he was upset about playing without Chris-senpai and the other Senpais from now on. Still he smiled a lot while letting the tears flow back then. Chris-Senpai had patted his head and told him to improve his pitching a lot until they meet again as enemies on the field.

Only imagining playing against his adored senpai gave him goose-bumps. Even when he preferred to play together with Chris-Senpai as an battery, playing against him also gave him some kind of thrill and he swore to himself that he’d become good enough to be worthy playing against Chris.

From this day on he trained as much as he could (and as much as the team and couch allowed) to become a better pitcher. It worked.

His ball control became better, he learned a few breaking-balls and even improved his batting skills.

But now he realised that this year went by way to fast. Soon he’d be a 3rd year and would only have one more left at Seido, sure he’d enjoy this year as much as he could. He also were sure that it’d be a lot of fun to form in more official plays a battery with his new catcher Okumura Koushuu now that Miyuki Kazuya finished school and continued on to an university.

Just that was also the breaking point why he couldn’t smile along his Senpais right now.

One of the leaving 3rd years where Miyuki Kazuya, ex-catcher and ex-captain of Seido. If someone would have told Sawamura two years ago that Miyuki leaving would get him upset he had laughed at them. Back then he would have been happy to get rid of his teasing and stupid smirk, at least he told his self so, but now it seemed like the worst thing ever.

Yes, Miyuki did tease him a lot. Yes, he definitely was an annoying ass with a twisted personality but Sawamura got so used to Miyuki being around him that he would miss all of that. Every little teasing, every stupid grin and that confident smirk he wore when they’d form a battery in an important game a strike out batter after batter.

Why he was so upset about Miyuki leaving?

He didn’t knew him self.

Fact is without Miyuki Seido wouldn’t be Seido anymore. Miyuki Kazuya was the reason he came here. That one fateful day where he met the catcher and they formed a battery for the first time changed Sawamuras whole life.

He was sure that if didn’t met Miyuki back on that day at Seido he wouldn’t have changed his mind about staying with his friends and continued playing with them. He sometimes wondered what he would to now if that would have happened. Probably he’d still play as bad as he did when he joined with Seido.

Joining Seido only for Miyuki Kazuya wasn’t a decision he ever regretted, not even once in the two years he were here now. Not when Miyuki called him an idiot, not when Miyuki made fun of him and also not when Miyuki became the reason for that strange fluttering in his stomach. If he could go back to that day he’d change nothing. This years here were the best of is life.

A little smile traced his lips now.

Yeah, Miyuki Kazuya changed his life and now that boy left a bigger hole than Sawamura imagined.

Sawamura pulled away from his thoughts when he realised that the sun didn’t shine on his face anymore. In front of him stood the stupid, smirking person who haunted his thoughts just some seconds ago.

“What’s with that face Sawamura? Normally you’d be the first to laugh and cry in such a situation instead of sulking off”. Miyukis smirk turned into a questioning smile.

Sawamura puffed his cheeks “I wouldn’t! Bakayuki...” bu tthe insult didn’t got as much bite as Sawamura wanted it to. He focused his gaze on a stone on the ground because he didn’t felt like looking into his catchers face.

A big hand came to his head an ruffled his hair “I see so you don’t want to tell you awesome Senpai what’s wrong ,huh?”. Sawamura balled his hands and bit down on his lip. He definitely didn’t wanted to give this bastard the satisfaction of the fact that he’d miss him. Miyuki would never let that fact die down and the teasing would never end. He slowly lowered his head before shaking his head.

His eyed were now covered by his bangs and Miyuki couldn’t see what emotion where reflected in Sawamuras eyes as said boy started to talk again “…without you as catcher playing baseball won’t be the same for me anymore”.

Miyukis eyes widened, he knew that this idiot pitcher in front of him was dam forward with his emotions and thoughts but he didn’t expected to hear this words.

“Awww, don’t tell me my little cute kouhai is going to miss me?” Sawamura could hear the smirk in that question but kept his gaze on the ground. He felt himself slowly starting to tear up.

Why had this bastard such an control over him? Why was it out of nowhere so hard to speak or to even just look up into these teasing brown eyes?

Before he could say something he saw Miyukis outstretched, closed hand in front of his eyes. Confused he looked up at the catcher who simply nodded towards Sawamuras hand. When Sawamura opened his hand Miyuki grabbed it and Sawamura felt that the catcher put something into his hand.

When Miyuki pulled his hand away and kept smirking down on him Sawamura looked away from his face to his own hand. When he opened it he saw an button and a little letter. He gave his catcher an confused look which got answered by rolling eyes. While keeping his gaze locked with Sawamuras he pointed at his own uniform “The second button from my blazer Bakamura”

It took Sawamura a few seconds to realise what he meant. Right at the moment it hit him he felt his face heat up and his palms getting sweaty. His heart rate seemed to get an unhealthy rhythm and everything seemed to make sense. He was in love with Miyuki.

“I want you to carry all my emotions and experience with you. Be a good Ace Sawamura and enjoy your year with Okumura as your catcher until you join my university. This isn't goodbye, Bakamura.” The catcher smirked down at Sawamura and that was the moment when Sawamuras tears started to flow. Without thinking about it he jumped at his catcher and buried his face into the crook of Miyukis neck while he started to sob violently.

Miyuki gave a light laugh until he wrapped his arms around the younger boy and started to stroke his hair in a reassuring way. They stood there like that for a few minutes until Sawamura slowly pulled just enough back to meet Miyukis gaze.

The catcher playfully flicked Sawamuras forehead before leaning in so his mouth were beside the southpaws ear “I’ll wait for you Eijun” before giving said boy a chase kiss on the nose.
“Well if your grades will be good enough to follow me of course, which I’m not so sure about if I remember what grades you got this year…Kanemaru almost died because helping you seemed such an hopeless case”

Sawamura glared at the boy before him only to break into laughter a few seconds later. With a surprised and questioning look Miyuki looked at him, his hands still resting on Sawamuras hips. But the Southpaw ignored the look and continued to laugh, “I’ll try my best, Senpai” , before cupping Miyukis face in his hands and pulling the catcher down for a second kiss. Yes, he loved that boy. His twisted personality, his teasing and his hidden gentle side because all of that was Miyuki Kazuya. And all of that was what Sawamura Eijun needed in his life.
