Summary:

When Ninjago City is threatened by a powerful and ancient evil, it’s up to monster hunters Kai and Nya Smith to protect their home.

They took an oath, made a vow.

However their morals become ever-bending when teaming up with a buff Warlock, a robot with amnesia, and a mysterious demon with secrets and motives of his own.

Oh, and most unexpectedly, Jay Walker. He’s also there. Much to Kai’s dismay.

Notes:

So I noticed there weren’t many ninjago aus about the supernatural so I thought I’d deliver.

Enjoy.

Chapter 1: You can’t save everyone

Chapter Text

The room reeked of death, and of blood. So much blood. The air was thick with it, it’s taste metallic. Heavy and crimson, a life force.. drained, lost. That pooled on the floors and splattered on the walls.

Fresh bodies littered the space. Whatever caused this massacre was sloppy. Messy. Inexperienced. This was good, the kill should be clean. Ironic, considering the state the place was already in.

The creature had huddled in on itself, clutching plump flesh. It’s face buried deep in his neck. Sharp fangs pierced through dark skin. It drank, guzzling gallon after gallon of sweet blood.

How disgusting.

The girl slowly approached and reached for her katana. With one swift movement, she drove the blade through it’s back, piercing it’s chest. It’s squealed from the pain, before collapsing in on itself. Yet she remained unfazed. The death, the murder, it didn’t bother her. It never bothered her.

Not that the vampire was dead for good, once its body stitched itself up again, it’ll be alive   undead and well once more.

“Nice work, sis” a male voice crept in, breaking the silence she’d created.

She scoffed, “could’ve been better”

He placed a steady hand upon her shoulder and offered her a smile, surprisingly sincere.

“We’ve got the son of a bitch, haven’t we?I don’t see the issue”

“You wouldn’t Kai, you don’t care about mess. I should know, I’ve had to live with you my whole life”

“Whatever” he grumbled

Kai then smiled below at the bloody mess, “well.. better clean this up”

Nya choked out a laugh at her brother’s sudden switch in mood. She swiped the edge of her sword along her dress, pulling a face of disgust as blood dampened the fabric.

She looked up, watching as her brother carelessly picked the vampire up and tossed him over his shoulder.

“Let the interrogation begin..”

***

Nya glances over. He's upright, held in place by thick rope tied to the ceiling and knotted around his wrists. His pupils are blown, but somehow still shining with fury. his brows are furrowed and an ugly scowl is evident on his face.

Black stilettos clatter against stone, the ominous sound prolonged from his unwanted anticipation. She leans over, grabbing hold of his dark curls, and forces his head back.

Pink lips quiver up into a small smirk, her hot breath on his neck as she hovers close to his ear, “where is she?”

“Like I’d tell you, bitch” his voice shakes, and her grip on his hair tightens.

She sighs, disappointed but not at all surprised. Her head cocks, signalling her brother over from his position against the wall. So far, Kai had been watching in morbid curiosity as his sister interrogated the latest blood sucker.

He unscrews his flask, tutting. Nya uses her other hand to clasp around the vampire’s jaw and forces it open. Kai proceeds to empty its contents into his mouth.

He thrashes around frantically, gargling and withering. He splutters, the skin around his chin blistering from abrasive burns. Kai tosses the flask to the ground before backing away in time for blood and puke to splash to the floor.

“Holy water” he clarifies, “so we ask again, What did you do to the girl?”

“I can’t remember her name, but my, was she delicious”

The most disturbing chuckle she’s ever heard falls from the man, causing bile to surge into her throat. Shaking her head, ridding herself of the nausea, Nya struts to the table, taking the machete off it’s surface and swinging it to slice the vampire’s head clean off.

Blood pools down onto the cement below them. Splattered. Dripping.

Her heart flutters, working overtime with the new surge of adrenaline pounding through the vessel as she watches his head tumble away from his fallen corpse. His eyes still open and mouth agape.

“Her name was Anna”

Nya frowns, using the sleeve of her satin black dress to wipe the sticky red substance from the blade once again.

Kai walks to the back by the bathroom and grabs two rusting chairs. He puts them both out and takes a seat in one, idly crossing one leg over his knee. He pats the other chair beside him, offering his sister the other seat.

She declines, throwing the machete towards to table. It clanks against it before rattling to the ground.

Leaning over, kai uses his thighs to rest his elbows against as he watches his sister pace, “what’s your issue?”

“We weren’t quick enough, Kai. And now that poor girl is dead because we didn’t save her in time”

“Nya, we can’t save them all”

“Don’t you think I know that? I only wish it didn’t suck as much”

He sighs. Nya was right, she was always right. There was always something to hunt lately, and with that comes casualties. And yeah, it fucking sucked.

Changing the subject, kai asked, “you going school tomorrow?”

“I don’t know” she shrugged, “I’m thinking about quitting”

This forces his spine straight. Nya had worked so hard to get onto that college course, why would she give that all up now at her second year in?

“What? You have to go, you’ve put in too much effort not to and-“ a pause, “and you deserve a chance to have a good life with a good career”

“Monster hunting doesn’t qualify as a good career? Are my ears deceiving me?”

Kai rolled his eyes at her antics, “you know what I mean. It’s not like we get payed for this or anything, not even a thank you”

“It’s not like it’s their fault” she replied

“I guess” he shrugged, “whatever. You’re going school. End of”

Because she deserved it. Because kai would do anything for his sister and if that meant having a crappy job and living in a crappy apartment to pay her tuition, well then so be it

***

Anna Miller, 21. Dead.

Nya wasn’t quick enough. Wasn’t strong enough. Wasn’t smart enough. Because of this, Anna Miller was dead.

Nya had been a hunter for a long time- practically since birth- but the monsters just kept coming. No matter how hard she tried to rid them, they just kept crawling back.

It was really starting to piss her off.

It wasn’t the hunt in itself that she disliked. It provided an outlet, a way to burn pent up energy and take her rage out on someone.. something, that deserved her anger.

No, Nya didn’t mind the hunt at all. What bothered her was the death, the destruction, the thousands of lives ruined at the hand of a creature she wasn’t good enough to save them from.

“Hey, can you pass me the screwdriver?” The soft voice of her mechanic called out, interrupting her thoughts.

She blinked, processing his request. Instinctively, she grabbed the tool from it’s box and handed it to its owner.

“Hey, thanks for doing this, Jay” she gave him a weak smile of gratitude, her thoughts still clustered, “I’m usually not so bad at fixing the truck up myself, but I’ve been pretty busy this past week and simply don’t have the time”

He nodded, returning her smile, “it’s really no problem, Nya, I’m happy to help. You said you were busy, is that why you haven’t been in class?”

Jay Walker was her lab partner, and the closest thing she had to a friend at her college… and out of college too.

Nya would be lying if she denied her attraction to the boy. Sure she found him cute, hell, he was. His waved hair was a smooth brown, borderline orange. His blue eyes shone with electricity, and just above them, two eyebrows, the left with a notch running through it. His round face rosy, his porcelain skin peppered with freckles, his bright smile unmatched. He was a tad on the scrawny side but it looked so incredibly good on Jay Walker.

But nothing could ever happen. Ever. Jay was so blissful unaware, Nya couldn’t let her lifestyle affect his promising young life, so she kept a distance.

“So will I see you next week?”

“I’m sorry.. what?” She stuttered, feeling caught all of a sudden, as if Jay had access to her mind.

He chuckled heartily, whilst digging in his toolbox. He pulled out a rench, using on the car, “I said are you coming college on Monday”

“Oh! Yeah, yeah I am” she laughed nervously, “my brother would kill me if I didn’t”

“Then I’m glad I get to see you”

“Me too..”

A knock interrupts them: one, two, three . Their heads turn towards the direction of the sound.

“It’s open!” Jay calls out, inviting the visitor inside.

Nya’s eyes suddenly lock with a pair of emeralds.

The boy, she noted, was extraordinarily beautiful. His skin creamy white, his hair golden blond, his eyelashes full and dark. His cheekbones were high, angular and his face so evenly structured. Not tall, but not short either. Not so burly, but lean and toned instead. Still, nothing compared to those green green eyes.

He held up a large brown box under his arm, using the other to fix the white and green cap over his head.

“Package for Jay Walker?”

Jay’s ears pricked up, the puzzlement in his face transferring into his voice, “package? But I didn’t order anything”

Nya shifted slightly, her body moving closer to Jays as she watched the blond discard the tightly sealed box onto the side table, the impact creating a dense thud.

“Hey, I’m just the delivery guy” he said, raising his hands into a fake surrender “I can call the company if you’d like”

Jay shook his head, reassuring the boy soundlessly, “no, that’s quite alright. I’m sure my dad must’ve ordered something on my account” he added, “he does that sometimes..”

The delivery boy nodded, feigning understanding. Nya studied him carefully, brown eyes boring holes into the back of his skull.

“I just need you to sign here” he stated, handing his clipboard to Jay while pointing to the dotted line.

The mechanic signed, scratching ink to paper as he asked, “are you new?”

“I’m sorry?” The blond choked, reminding Nya of herself a few moments prior to this one.

“You’re not the usual guy, is all” Jay clarifies.

“Oh, I’m just covering” the blond answers almost too quickly, “personal day or something..”

Jay nodded, before waving the new delivery guy goodbye and glancing at Nya whose eyes had yet to waver from the door. He placed a gentle hand upon her shoulder.

“You okay? You seem a little.. tense..”

“Yeah, i’m good” Nya shook his hand- and his concern- off coolly, “but I need to go. I’ll pick the truck up later”

“Okay, I’ll see you-“ he began, but she was already gone, “later..”
