gala de aniversario

Summary:

“Wow”

Even though she spoke in a soft whisper, his ears picked it up easily. Puss rubbed one of his arms covered in elbow length gloves, the black glitter scrapping his fingers. “I-I know it’s a lot.” He bit his lip. “But Fiona said you’d like it and well.” He put his two paws together, twiddling thumbs pressing together nervously, the fingerless gloves showing off his paws, cream colored nails painted black. “I knew this was a bad idea, I’ll just take it off-“

“No!” Kitty shouted, white paws outstretched to prevent him from leaving, her face flushed at her sudden outburst as some eyes looked at them. Puss’s own green ones wide from the sudden scream. “No?”

“Sí.” Kitty looked her partner up and down a couple times, taking in his outfit the princess took hours to finish, the outfit she was told was a surprise. “It’s perfect on you mi amor.” She took his right paw in hers and gave the knuckles a kiss. “You look absolutely hermoso Puss.”

His face flushed.

Chapter Text

“So, not that I don’t enjoy this or anything.” Kitty spoke, Catching the two boys attention who were having small talk. “Why exactly are we not eating breakfast at the castle like we have been for like over a week now?”

It had been two weeks since the trio had arrived at the castle in “Far Far Away” and it had been pretty eventful so far. Puss introducing them to Shrek and the others, the ogre’s mentioning that they’ve been staying at the castle much more recently and that Arthur would be out for another couple of weeks on business leaving them in charge, the story’s swapped and told about old and recent adventures, Puss telling them about the tall gray wolf named Muerte and what had transpired between the two. He had received concerned looks and terrified gasps, but he reassured them all was fine between them, mostly. Kitty informed that she still did not like the wolf.

They asked more about said wolf and Puss told all he knew about him. He spoke of how he was chased and how he met Perrito, which he was very grateful for. He explained how he was on his last life which went better in his head, but Kitty reassured them all that he was okay and that she wouldn’t let anything hurt him. He rolled his eyes at that, he was not fragile, but they treated him as such. Kitty mostly did it to get a reaction out of him and the others did it because they were worried. It was on and off really, he admitted that they could have been worse so he let it go, if it made them feel better to coddle him then he’d let them do it for just a while longer.

Now though, the three of them were walking down a clean street as they passed many shops that were starting to open up for the day, some owners waving friendly at the group. The smell of food being cooked came around the corner where the few small restaurants of the kingdom were held.

Puss looked over to Kitty with a small grin. “Well for one, today is Shrek and Fiona’s anniversary, figured we could let them have a morning alone together since it is thier anniversary.”

“Ah, that’s sweet of you Puss.” Perrito chimed in, his small floppy ears perking up. The orange tabby smiled at that.

“Ok, I’ll admit. That’s pretty sweet of you.” She looked at the stores. “But what’s the other reason?”

“Well, it’s been over a good week since it was just the three of us together. I thought maybe we could come get breakfast down town and let me show you more of the sights since we’ve been mostly at the castle.” He leaned back on his heels. “And when we get back I thought maybe we could take a cat nap.”

“I could definitely go for a catnap.” Kitty grinned as she placed a paw on her hip. “After eating and letting you play tour guide of course.”

“Wait.” Perrito stopped and looked down, the two felines looking back at him. “Won’t the princess want us to help them get ready for the party?”

“Ah yes, that.” She rubbed the back of her head awkwardly, she hissed and grit her teeth. “I forgot all about the anniversary party.” Kitty moaned.

“Nah, I’m sure we can nap for like an hour and than start helping.” He smacked his lips as if he were thirsty. “I remembered thier anniversary, but I forgot all about the party as well.”

“What are you guys going to wear?” Perrito shot in catching the two off guard. “Fiona already picked me out a nice suit!” His tail wagged.
“Eh, probably this.” He gestured to his attire he wore at the moment, his cape fluttered from the wind and his feather on his hat bounced. Kitty frowned and crossed her arms.
“I refuse to wear a dress.”

“Don’t worry mi amor.” Puss looked over to her, thier eyes meeting. “I told Fiona like a week ago, she knows.”

“You did?”

“Mhm.” He nodded. “The subject came up, not sure how, but I told her what you told me.” He shrugged his shoulders softly. “I mentioned how you don’t like how it makes your legs feel trapped and that it feels to girly. She understood, I told her you much prefer pants.” He closed his eyes. “If she forgets I’ll let her know again.”

Kitty’s face held a small blush and smiled like an idiot. Puss just doing that for her made her feel like the luckiest gata alive, he could be so sweet. Him remembering every detail and setting down her discomfort for the garment was enough for her to want to kiss him over and over again, but she held back.

“Thanks Puss.”

“Of course.” He grinned. “Now let us forget about the party for now, sí?” He marched forward as the two followed. “I want to find some gazpacho before we head back.”

“Ugh.” Kitty groaned dramatically, but she held a big grin. “You and that dish. Will you ever stop eatin-“ she was stopped as a furry finger was placed on top of her lips making her blink. Puss had the most serious expression on his face, removing his finger he held his head up high. “Don’t ever say such monstrous things like that ever again.”

“Oh my stars, you are the most dramatic person I’ve ever known.” She laughed loudly, catching a few looks thier way. “Over food. Oh gato, don’t change.”

“I do not plan to.” He chuckled and put his paws on his hips. “So gazpacho, sí?”

“Okay fine. Fine! We will find you some gazpacho.” She rubbed her eyes, her smile small.

“Excelente!” With excitement he ran off to the restaurants section of the small town, Kitty yelling at him to wait a minute and Perrito tagging along with the biggest smile, his tongue hanging out of the side of his mouth.

The long table was clean with an elegant and lacy white table cloth that went down the middle as it hung off the sides. The cooks brought out their breakfast on large plates consisting of eggs and bacon. Seconds later a maid brought out thier drinks.

“Thank you Margalene.” Fiona softly smiled at the maid who beamed and bowed, her dress puffing up a little before excusing herself to get back to her duties. Once she was gone the two began to eat, the sounds of the metal silverware clanking on glass plates was the only thing the duo heard for awhile until one of them broke the silence.

“Hey.” Fiona who was across from her husband Shrek looked up from her food, thier eyes met as he was midway through a bite. “Where’s Puss and the others? I haven’t seen them all morning.”

“Oh.” Shrek smiled and put his fork down. “I ran across him this morning leaving.” His wife’s eyes popped open. “He said they were going down town to eat breakfast together, said since it was our anniversary he wanted us to have a morning alone.”

“Aww, that’s sweet of him.”

“It is, isn’t it?” Shrek chuckled. “He can be sweet when he wants to be, I’ll tell you that.” He continued to eat his breakfast. Fiona placed her fork down and looked over to the door that led to the front of the castle where the exit was. He looked up at her. “You good honey?”

“Yeah, it’s just. When are they coming back?”

“Probably soon.” He stopped for a minute to think. “They’ve been gone for at least an hour and a half…why?”

“Oh.” She perked up. “Well I was just thinking.”

“About?”

“Well, you know how the party’s tonight.” She waited until she received a nod. “Everyone is told to dress up real nice and all, heck you’re wearing a suit.”

He laughed. “Shocking, I know.”

“And uh.” She twiddled her thumbs. “Well, Puss nor Kitty have anything to wear. Do they?”

“Nah.” He spoke with a mouth full of food, she rolled her eyes with a grin. “I’m being serious honey.”

“I know that.” He took his last bite and shoved the plate away. “But I do know they don’t have anything to wear to no party.”

“That’s what I thought, which is why I went ahead and did some planning of my own.”

“Oh?”

“Mhm.” She got up and took a drink from her cup. “So you know how like a week ago I got their measurements in case their capes or anything got torn or lost?” He nodded. “I kinda lied, I’ll definitely fix their capes and what not, but that was so I could get some clothes ready for them for today.”

Her husband laughed. “Ohh dear you’re sneaky.” He chuckled deeply as he pointed a green finger at her. “They're not gonna like that.”

“I know, but would they really let me if they knew I was going to put them in some fancy outfit? Plus I didn’t want kitty thinking I’d put her in a dress after what Puss told me.” She rubbed her temple. “I want them to be comfortable after all. I have ideas for both of them, but I need them here so I can get them going.”

“They’ll be back soon, they’ve only been gone for a little over an hour or so.” He got up himself and walked over to his wife. “And I’m sure they’ll like what you picked for them.”

“Well I know Perrito does, after all I already showed him. He’s very easy to deal with.” She sighed. “Kitty I’m sure is a bit stubborn like Puss, so I plan to get him done first.” She poked Shrek in the chest. “And you’re going to help me.”

“Alright, but why Puss first?”

“Cause one he is difficult when it comes to this stuff, plus I want his help with Kitty’s outfit. He knows her the best out of us all, he knows what she’s comfortable with. Plus his outfit is going to take much longer to get together than the others, I don’t know if he’s going to be willing at first.”

“Puss can be hard to deal with at first, believe me.” He closed his eyes with a fond smile as if he was remembering a memory. “But he comes around.” He puts his arm around her shoulder and squeezes her. “I’m sure whatever outfit you have planned for him he’ll wear it.”

“I have eight actually-“

“Good lord.”

She laughed, her eyes squinted. “I know, but I want him to have options. Along with Kitty.” She calmed down. “Plus Kitty told me she’d like to see him in this certain type of outfit on one of our hangouts, she had dreams of it. Says he has the physique for it, so this is a little surprise for her as well.”

“That’s nice of yah.”

“It’s my way of saying thanks I suppose, since she’s been so good to Puss. That’s all I could ask from her.” She held her hands close to her heart. “I hope she’ll like it.”

“I agree with you there, and I’m sure she will love it.” His green ears perked up as the sound of the front door opened and voices just barely loud enough to get a few words out such as “gracias” and “cat nap.”

“Would you look at that?” He grinned. “Great timing.”

She rolled her eyes and gestured her hand for him to follow and he did. They arrived near the stairs where the three were headed until they noticed her. Perrito waved with a big grin.

“Hey princess!”

“Hello Perrito.” Smiling, she kneeled down to him. “How are you?.” He nodded. “I’m great!”

“Princesa” Kitty bowed, she put her right foot in front of the left, her right arm was to her chest as her left was outstretched, inches from Puss”s chest. Fiona only giggled, she was truly a gentlewoman.

“You don’t have to do such things Kitty, Fiona is just fine. I’m your friend, there's no need to bow to me.” Kitty pushed herself back up and nodded.

“Where are you guys headed?” Shrek butted in to move along the conversation. The orange feline perked his ears up. “Oh, we were headed upstairs to all take a cat nap together.”

“I won’t lie, that sounds good, but I need to get you all ready for the party tonight.”

“Wait, what?” Puss and Kitty spoke at the same time before looking at each other with poker faces.

“I know you two aren’t much into fashion and I get it, there’s days where I just wear mom jeans and a baggy shirt, but for this occasion everyone including us are wearing fancy clothes such as suits and dresses.”

“I’m sorry Princesa, but I will not be wearing a gown.”

“Don’t worry Kitty, Puss already told me that you aren’t completely comfortable in those. I have a whole other idea for you.” That got her a raised eyebrow and a face full of confusion, including a smug grin from Puss as if he was telling her ‘I told you so’. “Perrito already has his outfit picked out which leaves you.” She pointed at the orange tabby who gasped dramatically, his paws held at his chest.

“Excuse me?” He pointed to himself. “I believe this is a great outfit.” He gestured to his cape and boots. “My mamá gave this to me, I’ve worn it too many fiestas!”
Shrek laughed. “Sorry buddy, but you won’t be wearing any of that tonight, that includes your wee little boots.”

“What!?”

“Tonight you both are wearing totally different clothes, it is a fancy party after all.” Fiona splayed her hands out. “I don’t want you all to feel out of place, plus it’ll be fun to dress you both up.”

“What about the triplets?” He rose his brow.

“Right now their at daycare. I’ll be getting them ready last, I already got thier stuff ready for this evening.”

“Oh don’t be dramatic Estimado.” Kitty bumped into his side purposefully. “Just do what they want, it may be fun.” He only groaned. She got closer to him so she could whisper. “Do it for your friends, it’ll mean a lot to them.”

“Uh, fine amor.” He whispered. “I’ll do it.”

“Wait.” His ears perked up underneath his hat, his whispering gone as he stood up straight, pointing his finger at the couple. “How exactly do you have clothing in our size?”

“Puss, mi gato tonto.” Kitty wrapped an arm around him. “Remember when she took our sizes the other day, Hmm?” She watched him blink a few times as realization set in and she could only snicker.

“You lied to me amigos!?” Puss cried as the two ogres tried their best not to burst out laughing. He was such a drama queen. He acted almost like a teenager.

“I wasn’t lying when I said I’d fix your all’s capes and stuff if they get messed up.” She snorted. “But it also had its perks.”

Puss hid his face in shame. Kitty and Perrito laughed at him.

Fiona held her hand out and opened and closed it a couple of times, beckoning him. “Now come, we have a lot to do after all.” He looked at her at first, unsure, but eventually caved in and reached his paw out until it was in her soft hand. He was pulled up the stairs gently, the two about to follow until the Princess held out a hand. “No, you two stay down here or take a nap like you were planning on until I come to get you.”

“Wait, we don’t get to come with Puss?”

“No, you’ll have to wait.” She smiled. “If you both want you can stay down here and help the staff get ready for the dance. It’s in another six hours after all.”

“Oo oo! Can I help in the kitchen!” Perrito jumped around. “I like to cook!”

She chuckled. “Of course, just let them know that I sent you.” She grinned as he ran off to the side door. “Ok! Bye Puss! See you at the party!” He was gone within seconds. Kitty blinked as did Puss until they looked back at each other.

“Well come on Puss, let’s get you ready.” She tugged on his arm gently which made him take his eyes off the blue eyes he had been staring at. He nodded and was led up the stairs, looking back one last time as he was taken up onto the second floor and around the corner. The black cat felt her heart tug, she really wanted to follow them, but she took a deep breath and went to go look for a staff member to give her some instructions.

She couldn’t take a nap right now even if she wanted to.

‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿

A memeber of the staff held open a door as wide as it could go as a black cat with white markings walked through, her paws holding a white foldable table. She nodded her head towards them which earned her a happy expression. Trudging through the cat walked into the room where the dance was being held and put down the table and set it up. She pushed it back to the wall with the others and huffed, that was the last of them.

Looking up towards the stairs she looked across the banister, looking for bright burnt orange fur and striking green eyes, but saw nothing. She sighed with a frown as she leaned against a white marbled column, blue eyes still watching the second floor like a hawk.

He had been gone for almost three hours by now.

Which to her was quite a long time to look for an outfit, even if he gave them a hard time. She had seen Fiona twice since then only to be told they were still getting him ready. The princess coaxed her.

“You’ll see him at the dance, I promise you that.” Her lips turned upwards. “I want it to be a surprise, you’ll just love what I had planned for him.”

She rubbed her chin in thought, what had the princess meant by that? She had a couple of ideas, but blew them off as if they were impossible heights to reach.

Perrito had come out of the kitchen once so far to check to see if there was anything he could do, she assured him she was fine. That had been an hour ago.
Donkey had shown up about thirty minutes ago, his suit he was going to wear this evening laying across his back in a plastic casing. He had told her that dragon was going to come later when the party was already started, saying something about wanting to get ready and had some things to do before then.

He was currently off to get the cloth for the multiple tables that were to hold tasty treats in a couple hours, as she waited for him she watched the staff who had been mostly outside decorating since she started to help. The stone walkways, windows and doorways were decorated with beautiful flowers and vines, it reminded her of the giant’s castle she had been to with both Puss and Humpty. She looked back up at the top of the stairs and along the hallway to see nobody, no princess, no gato.

She sighed.

“No sign of him yet, huh?” Black ears perked up at the sudden intrusion of her thoughts, turning around she saw Donkey with many dark tablecloths folded nicely over his back. She smiled sadly and nodded. “You could say that.”

“That’s a shame.” He spoke as she grabbed the stack of cloth and placed it on one of the many tables around them. “Wonder what he’s doing.”

“Not sure, I saw fiona around an hour ago.” She fiddled with the stack of tablecloth. “Said he was still getting ready.”

“Wooo.” He droaned out in a whistle.

“Yeah, he was giving them a hard time about it before he left.”

“That sounds like Puss.” The donkey chuckled.

“Fiona said something about how I’ll love what she had planned for him.” She resumed rubbing her chin in question. “It’s baffling honestly.” She shrugged.

“Hmm, that is a bit weird I won’t lie about that.” He looked up at the stairs. “But I do know that whatever she has him wearing will be great, the princess is always good with these things.”

“That I’m sure of.” Kitty smiled.

“Speaking of which, what are you going to wear softpaws?” He asked, using her last name. She had been thrown off at first, but had gotten used to it since they arrived. She placed her paws on her hips. “It won’t be a dress I can guarantee you that.”

“I don’t blame you, I'd hate those things.” He walked next to her, his hooves clipping on the marble ground. “Plus, you don’t seem like the dress type.”

“You would be right.” The staff’s chatter coming through the door slightly. “I wore one awhile back at Santa coloma, but I didn’t like how it did my legs. I’ll hopefully be wearing a suit, or something with pants at least.”

“I’m sure you will.” His ears perked up as a loud sound of pots landing on the ground from the kitchen came through the door. The two cringed at the crash, curling in on themselves as Perrito popped out of the door in an instance. “Don’t worry! It’s nothing bad.” He smiled, embarrassment written all over his face. “We just dropped clean pots everywhere.”

“Well I’m glad it was nothing serious Perrito.” Kitty smiled at his red face, flushed from embarrassment. He looked up the stairs and frowned as he looked back at his friend. “No Puss yet?”

“I’m afraid not.”

“Don’t worry.” Donkey held his head upright. “Just means the princess is working extra pizazz on him.” He grinned.

“That is true.” The small dog said estatically, his ears perked up from his skull. “We’ll see him at the party!” He looked back into the kitchen real quick as his name was called, his words mummered before popping back out. “I gotta go guys, cupcakes are almost done. By the way, the place looks great!” He left within second.

The two chuckled at the hyperactive pup, his energy leavening the two smiling.

Kitty resumed her place by the marble column, looking right back up at the second floor, her lips resumed a flat line.

At least that had killed some time for her.

“You really miss him, huh?”

She looks over to the owner of the voice, her eyebrows arched up before looking down at the ground. She could see how her worn and beat up boots didn’t match the floor at all, she chuckled, neither would Puss’s.

“Yeah.” He gulped. When did her mouth get so dry? “Yeah, I do.” She laughed. “It weird not to be right next to him, ever since the wishing star we’ve not separated once. It’s silly isn’t it?”

“Nah.” He shook his head, his grin heard in his voice. “It’s completely normal to feel that way about someone you care about.” He looked out the window, the flowers hanging down naturally. “I feel that way about my wife, I may be in a good mood, but deep down I miss her.”

Blue eyes blinked, glancing towards the top of the stairs for just a second to see if anyone was there waiting for her. “Oh I care about him alright.” She smiled softly. “It kinda scares me about how much I do care about him.”

“That’s love for yah.”

“Yeah.” Kitty almost whispered, her own voice cracking. “Love.”

“He feels the same about you.” He nods as she looks at him, he could feel her gaze digging into his head. “You can see it in the way he looks at you, when your name is brought up, when you touch him.” He chuckled. “Honestly softpaws, you have that cat wrapped around your finger.”

She snorted. “Do I?” She questioned, it was almost silly, as if the two were young kids experiencing love for the first time. She almost felt like a schoolgirl with her first crush, how flustered you are when thinking about them, the butterflies. They could see that on his face? She placed a paw on her cheek, already warm to the touch, she was sure under her black fur she was red.

Was she that oblivious?

“But it’s not just him.” Her tail swayed some from curiosity, blue orbs looking over to the donkey. “You do it too.”

“M-me?”

“Mhmm.” He nodded. “You can tell you’re so deeply in love with the guy.” He smirked.”You watch him as if he is the most graceful person in the room. Sometimes I’ve seen you start to grin by just looking at him when he’s doing practically anything. When anyone brings up his name, when he touches you.” His eyes softened. “You two act like teenagers in love.” He looked off to the window to look up at the sky, possibly looking for his wife. He turned back to her. “He has you wrapped around his finger as well.”

Her lips parted, but only for a moment as she kept her paw on her cheek, the heat worsening. She could only hope nobody could see her blushing cheeks. Looking back at the second story, her eyes gazing at the hallways. She laughed internally, he was right, he did have her wrapped around his finger.

Always had.

Donkey watched her gaze back at the stairs, watching to see if Puss had come around the corner with his welcoming grin. Her eyelids lower now as if she was relaxed and he could tell she was in her own mind, thinking of the tabby no less. He walked around her, her lips upwards as she was in a dreamy state.

She was undoubtedly in love.

She was lovesick.

“Oo you got it bad, don’t yah?” He had a smug grin, shock plastered all over the cat’s face. Her ears laid to the side in defiance. “w-wha, no I don’t-“ she stops herself, her mind flashing memories of the orange cat's face, her cheeks only turning darker crimson.

Oh yeah, she definitely had it bad.

“Well?”

She let her body relax, her shoulder hunched down and her ears perked up lazily. “yeah” she looked up to watch the stairs again, it seemed like it had become her new hobby. “He just brings something out of me yah know?” She chuckled, the donkey could swear her eyes had hearts in them as the black cat thought of the legendary hero.

“I get it.” She looked at him. “When you're in love that just happens.”

“Heh.” Her dimples showing. “I suppose so.”

Her eyes stayed on the staircase, having her think of the feline seemed to put her in a good mood so he continued.

“To pass the time time why don’t you tell me what you all were up to before you came here.”

Her ears perked up. “Well after the wishing star we heading to a governors place, Puss said he wanted to get a boat so we agreed. He told us he wanted to come visit you guys, so we followed.” She crossed her arms over her chest as she leaned against the marble columbn. “We were on sea close to a week, got her over three weeks ago.”

“Three weeks? He rose an eyebrow. “But you’ve only been here for two?”

“Puss wanted to show us around. We met Doris at the pub where he used to stay at. Just around everywhere you could get to in a week.” She laughed. “He was so excited, but the first day we got here we had a bit of an issue.”

“Oh? And what was that?”

“Eh, some lousy bounty hunters found us. Puss heard them.” She pushed her arms closer to her chest as if she was trying to comfort herself as if it was a bad memory, and perhaps it was for her. “So we ran, but they caught up to us anyway. Surrounded us.”

“Yikes.”

“Exactly, so we fought them. Me and Perrito teamed up against the two humans, Puss fought the big perro that was with them. It was going well at first, really.”

Donkeys stomach churned uncomfortably. “What happened?” With how upset Kitty looked he kinda regretted it.

“The guy got an advantage on Puss, took his hat off and messed him up.” Her eyes narrowed as she stared at the ground at her boots. “Anyways, long story short he ended up cutting Puss pretty bad on the cheek.”

“Ah.” His eyes widened. “So that’s why he had that white bandage on his cheek the first day y’all were here.”

“Yeah, we ran to a hotel that gracesly helped and let us stay for free. They had great hospitality.”

“Uh.” He rubbed the back of his head. “So what did you guys do about-“ he droaned off.

“Ah, I made him pay for it.” The cat looked at him, her grin mischievous, almost bloodlust. “Stabbed him in the shoulder, ear and slit his cheek.” She said it proudly, her nose in the air as her right hand pointed to her chest with all her fingers spread out. “I believe that’s a fair trade.”

“Eheh.” Donkey laughed uncomfortably. “Remind me not to make you mad.”

“Of course.” She joked, her arms going back to being crossed on her chest, her eyes staring down the second floor. “I had a huge adrenaline rush really, I just saw red and well-“

“No no, I get it.” She listened to him. “I’d do the same for my baby.” Kitty only nodded.

The feline looked around before her eyes fell on her company, an eyebrow raised in question. “Did we do everything?”

“Oh yeah.” Donkey trotted towards the tables. “We got everything out here, the staff and cooks just have to come in and feel up the tables. We did the hard part for them.” He said with enthusiasm. She chuckled, she could see why him and Perrito got along so well.

“That’s good.” Her ears picked up light footsteps and turning her head up she saw Princess Fiona standing at the top of the stairs as she headed down to the two.

“Princesa!” Kitty bowed quickly before jogging to the end of the stairs. The ogres flats made not much noise as she reached the bottom. “You don’t have to bow, I’m sorry it took so long Kitty.” She smiled apologetically. “Things just kept going wrong.”

She smirked. “Puss giving you a hard time seniorita?”

“Well he was the first hour we started working on him, but he’s warmed up.” She places her right hand on her hip. “It’s just things we’re going wrong, you know, as they do on any occasion. “She rolled her eyes playfully.

“May I.” She licked her lips, they along with her throat felt dry. “May I see him?”

She chuckled. “Not yet, but soon.” She jestured up the steps with her hand. “It’s your turn now.” Kitty almost thought she felt sweat on her brow. She nodded and took a step, the princess holding her hand on the top of her back. Fiona turned around and looked at the other.

“Donkey, can you tell Perrito I’ll be coming for him soon?”

“Of course princess!” He smiled and walked off to the kitchen. She turned back towards her main focus. “Shall we?” The black cat nodded as she was led up the stairs and towards the left of the hallway.

The opposite of where Puss was led earlier.

They had been walking for only a few minutes by now, but to kitty it felt almost like ten. The hallways all looked almost alike, the only thing giving them away really was the different paintings and photos on the walls indicating a new area. This was the side of the castle where all their bedrooms lied, all next to one another’s which was very convenient. She looked down the hallways and even behind her, but saw not a soul.

The ogre looked down and smiled, she chuckled internally. “You won’t find him over here I’m afraid.” She guided her around another corner. “He’s on the opposite side of the castle after all.”

“So I’m not going where he went?”

“Exactly.”

Kitty hummed in acceptance, but the older of them both knew she was anything but wanting to accept it. She could see just how much she wanted to see Puss. “You will see him at the dance, it is only a mere two hours away.”

“Soo.” Kitty drawled out, trying to change the subject. “Who’s all going to be at the party?”

“Oh, just the towns people, other fairytales creatures such as cats and dogs. Anyone who wants to come really.” She held her hands behind her back. “Though there will be heavy security tonight, just in case thing were to go wrong.

“Ah, ok.” Kitty mumbled, other cats? Dogs? Everyone? She could only hope nothing bad would happen. They took a few more steps until she stopped at a white door with rose gold decorations on it.

“Is this the dressing room?”

“Yes technically, but before we enter I do want you to know something.”

“If it’s a dress-“ she was interrupted, the ogre shaking her hands. “Oh no, Puss already informed me and like I said earlier, I want you to be comfortable after all.” She put her hand on the knob. “No, what I want to tell you is I have a big selection for you, but the first one I want you to see is the one Puss picked out for you.”

“Huh?”

“The first hour we did nothing but figure out what you liked. I had many different suits made in your style, but I was unsure. Puss picked one out, said he thinks you’ll like it and since he knows you the best I thought I’d leave it up to him.” She continued. “He also chose the color of the one I’m going to show you. Said you always wear it and he thinks it looks great on you.”

“Green.” Kitty whispered as she blinked a couple times, her lips turned up slowly as her cheeks heated up, again. What did this cute gato do to her? She knew if she had his hat she would be covering her face. “That is sweet of you Princesa.”

She hummed before opening up the door as the two walked in. The room had marble flooring and the walls were white, it’s length stretched and many suits of different sizes and colors were hung up on racks that lined the walls. Body mirrors outlined in gold placed here and there along the walls with the middle of the room filled up with fabric covered benches.

“Fancy.” Kitty whistled.

“It is huh?” She grimaced. “A bit to fancy for me, but mother likes it.” They reached the end of the room finally, a deep purple curtain covering the next doorway. “The suit is in the middle of the room, the room is a bit uh, a bit messy so ignore that.” Kitty nodded, With that she slid open the curtain to allow the cat to walk through as she followed.

“Wow.” Kitty walked up to the middle of the room where a small cream colored manaquine stood, it held no head. The suit attached to it was what had Kittys eyes widened, she almost gasped.

“Nice huh?” The black cat almost choked on her breath, she forgot the ogre was there for a second.

“I-it is.”

“Are you sure?” The stutter didn’t go unnoticed. “You sound unsure.”

“No, I mean it.” She walked up to the suit, the neck a bronze brown as a hunter green cloak hung down to below the shoulders. Underneath held a light gray dress shirt, the arms hunter green as well. The belt was a brown bronze that held a gold buckle, the dress pants a dark gray. Right underneath the belt was a hunter green split skirt that came just above the knee, the split wide enough to see both legs.

“It’s not very popular, but I do love the design.” She walked around the fabric. “I think it’d look fabulous on you, if you want to wear it of course.”

Kitty grabbed the split skirt gently, almost as if she was afraid it’d turn to brittle. “It’s exactly what I wanted-“

“I’m glad.” She leaned forward, her hands clasped together. “Puss believed you’d like it, said you liked dresses to a point, but how much you hated how they got in front of your legs and prohibited you.”

“Yeah, he’s not wrong.” She danced around the suit. “I kinda like the look of them, especially if their simple like this.” She grabbed the skirt again, the ends slightly ruffled. “Nothing to frilly. But I prefer pants.”

“Well I suppose he chose right then.” She stood beside the cat below her. “He even picked the color, said you always wore it.”

“Yeah.” She spoke almost dreamily. “This one’s perfect.”

“Great!” She clapped her hands together in excitement. “Now, it comes in other colors so-“ she was stopped with a small chuckle. The cat shook her paw.

“No no, Princesa. I do believe you misunderstood what I was saying.” She stared at the suit in awe. “I mean this exact one.” She tugged on the fabric.

“Oh!” Her cheeks turned a small pink. “I’m sorry Kitty.”

“There’s no need to apologize Fiona.” She smiled sweetly. “I really appreciate this, I do.” Kitty couldn’t keep her paws off the garment. “Not many would do this for a gata like myself.”

“Well I’m not like many people as you can tell.” She laughed as she present herself as if showing off a new outfit. “You can come to me any time, if you want a new outfit I got you covered. Puss and Perrito as well.”

“I” kitty didn’t know what to say, the woman had been nothing but kind to her since they had arrived. “Thank you Princesa.”

“Of course.” The royal ogre bowed to the surprised cat catching her off guard. Her green lips smirked. She stood straight back up. “Now, I have to go get Perrito and get started with him, there’s a few details I want to add to his look.” She walked off beckoning the other to follow. “I have to get back to Puss soon and then start on the triplets, there’s only-“ she looked at the clock on the wall. “Two hours before the dance, so why don’t you head back to your room and I’ll have your suit sent to you within the first hour.”

“But what about downstairs-“

“Don’t worry, Donkey is helping with it and the staff have it under control. They are very good at these things.” She slid the curtain open to allow the feline to walk through. “I'll have the extra things sent as well.”

“Extra?”

“Oh you know, boots, gloves, stuff like that.”

“Ah.” She followed the princess to the exit. “Alright.”

“Good, now go freshen up and I’ll have your stuff sent to your room soon.” Kitty nodded as she walked out. “Is he-“

“Not in his room.” She laughed. “He’s using my room to freshen up, I do want this to be a surprise.” She leaned down. “Please don’t take this as me being mean I just-“

“No I get it Fiona, believe me.” She watched the other push herself up to her full height. “I understand completely and even if I miss him like loco I can wait another measly two hours. I am looking forward to seeing what you’ve done with my gato.”

“I do hope you love it, mother helped me some and Shreks been great moral support for me and Puss.” Her laugh vibrated off the hallways walls. Suddenly her expression changed with a small frown catching Kitty’s attention. “There is one thing I want to tell you.”

“What is it?”

“Puss, what he has on he likes it, I can tell.” She nodded. “But he believes he does not look good in it, he’s a bit self conscious.” Kitty’s eyebrows narrowed. “He doesn’t want you to see him yet, he does not think you will like it.”

“Oh that’s absurd.” She rolled her eyes. “ese gato se veria bien en cualquier cosa, que le pasa?”

“I told him that to, told him you’d like it, but he doesn't think so.” She sighed. “I just wanted to let you know, in case he doesn’t come straight down when the dance does start.”

“Ah, okay.” Kitty bit her lip. “Thank you for telling me Princesa.”

“Of course.” She took a step the other way showing she was going opposite of the cat. “Now do go freshen up, rest some. I’ll have it sent to your room soon.”

“Ok.” With that she walked the other way as she left the hallway, giving a small wave to Fiona before she didn’t see her anymore after she turned a corner. She went down many halls, her eyes looking around as if she may see bright ginger fur.

She saw none.

The door to the bathroom opened up, steam rolling into the bedroom. A cat walked through, her fur damp as she dried off with a white towel. Kitty took it and rubbed the inside of her ear as she heard it pop, full sound returning after it had been waterlogged.

“Ah.” She smiled, a shower had done her good after the short nap she had. She wasn’t asleep long, really only thirty minutes or so, it had killed some time and now it was only a little over an hour until the party.

Finally.

She tossed the towel over onto the bed which was a mess, it’s covers tossed around. She walked back into the bathroom to return with a blow dryer, plugged it up and before she could turn it on she heard a knock.

“Huh?”

Kitty placed the dryer on the vanity and walked over to the door, it felt weird to her without her boots and green sash on. Opening the door she was greeted with a woman a little taller than her, her brown hair in one long braid as it reached her lower back. She had dark tan skin and bright green eyes, the dress she had on was the normal maid attire. In her hands she held a suit covered in a plastic casing to protect it and a box, her eyes lit up.

“My suit!”

The maid giggled. “Princess Fiona told me to bring this to you.” She handed the suit to the cat. “Oh! And there’s these.” She handed over the big box as well, it was decorated in light blue.

“Oh, thank you seniorita.” Kitty spoke as she took them in her paws. The maid nodded and bowed. “Of course Ms. Softpaws.” The black cat knew if she was drinking she would had spit out her drink. “Oh! The Princess wanted me to tell you this is yours to keep. Just in case she wasn’t clear earlier.”

“Really?” Kitty laughed. “Tell her I said gracias.”

“Of course.” The maid walked more in the hallway. “The dance starts in an hour, don’t be late.” She giggled before taking her leave with a wave. Kitty waved back. “I-of course. Thank you.” She watched the maid walk down the hallways until she was gone, the feline looked down the other way, but to no avail she saw no ginger cat.

“Just another hour Kitty.”

Sighing she closed the door and locked it, taking her things over to the bed and dumping them. She grinned as she took the plastic cover off the clothing to reveal the green and gray suit. The suit was laid on the bed, legs leading back to the vanity, she grabbed the dryer.

Kitty turned it on and began to dry her fur, the black and white fluttering from the hot air. Humming, she closed her eyes enjoying the heat, her mind numb.

This went on until she no longer felt damp, her fur was puffed up and fluffy. With an irritated groan she grabbed the brush and brushed it down, it went down slick like it was supposed to. “Ah, there we go.”

She stood up from her seat when she was done, the stool had a cream colored cushion as it was held up by gold metal legs. She made her way across the room to the bed and grabbed her suit, she held it up to just look at it.

“Don’t you look dashing.” She grinned and began to put it on starting off with the pants. The next was the dress shirt and the neck piece. She fixed the arms and legs, making sure they all were lined up right as she dusted off the clothing. Blue eyes met the body mirror by her vanity.

“Ahh.” She spoke in a whisper, almost bewildered to see herself in such clothing. From her bed she walked across the room, watching herself in the mirror as she got closer to it. When she approached her paw touched the short green cloak that fell from her neck to below her shoulders.

Her grin grew to the point it was starting to hurt, she began to laugh. “Ahah.” She did a quick spin to watch the short green skirt flare out for just a brief moment before resting on her hips once again.

She laughed softly, doing a few more spins and looking at her dress pants. The skirt was short, the opening wide enough to see her two legs. Her dress pants ironed and straight, the material feeling very expensive. She looked at herself in the mirror again and just stared. Puss had picked this exact one out for her, and took an hour to do so mind you. He took his time and chose what he knew would make her happy. Her eyes squinted in delight.

“It’s perfect.”

She looked over her shoulder at the bed she was previously at, the blue box standing alone. Walking over she skimmed her paw across the top of the lid and tossed it off revealing short dark gray boots, the hills all together to make it a wedge. She picked those out and set them to the side. The next thing was black fingerless gloves that ended at her wrist, she slid them on as she kneaded the air.

“Nicee.”

Looking back she saw a simple orange flower clip that went on her dress shirt. Grabbing it she attached it on herself, the cloak falling over it slightly, she smirked. The princess was only adding wood to the fire.

“Heh.” She looked at the pin. “It just had to be orange.” Her thoughts went to a certain gato who she had not yet seen since early that morning. She looked to the side table beside her bed to see a picture of her, Puss, and Perrito, they had got it made after they arrived to Far Far Away. His bright green eyes seemed to pierce her, even if it was a photo.

Her mind went to what Fiona said earlier, Puss not wanting her to see him. Embarrassed, thinking she wouldn’t like what he chose. Kitty was a little worried about that, Puss never got like that often.

Shaking her head she tilted her head.

“You better not keep me waiting for too long jengibre.” Letting gravity do its job she landed on the bed and began to slip on her new boots, finishing them off by tying them. She pushed herself off the bed and walked around some, testing the boots. It was her first time wearing wedges after all. She stomped her right foot into the ground before walking around the room.

“Hah.” She stopped in front of the mirror again to get a good look at herself, the boots made her a bit taller, but they complemented the outfit. “These aren’t half bad.”
She took her left foot and pulled up her leg to knock the tip of her shoe on the ground.

Yeah these were definitely good quality.

She whistled, the toe at the end of the boot not bending nor denting. Looking up the cat looked at the clock to only blink a few times.

The dance had already started for ten minutes now. She took one last look at herself and made her way out, but not before grabbing a bottle and spraying herself with a few spurts of perfume. Kitty left the room after that as she made her way down the hallway, taking deep breaths the cat walked to where she was just hours ago helping, dusting off her clothes as she went.

Kitty could feel butterflies in her stomach.
