Summary:

Jiro is the second son of the Moriyama family and his path in life is already decided.
David, the son of the great Kevin Day, is over the moon at the idea of being trained by the bestest striker in the whole world, Neil Josten.

Andrew knows they will never be free of the Moriyamas, that's why he drops his Exy career to find a way to set Neil free.

Notes:

Ok, so, lots of children in this fic. Lots of traumatized children that need a couple of traumatized gays to support them.
I'm going blind into this. I'm writing it exclusively as a guilty pleasure, so I don't know how long it'll be, but I sure plan to enjoy myself.

This fic will have canon type of violence and the same trigger warnings for the original story. For anything major I'll add TW at the beginning of each chapter.

  1. GLOSSARY AND SUMMARIES
  2. The Injury (Neil)
    • Neil is severely injured during an exy game. His leg gets amputated. Despite him being no longer able to fulfil his duties to the Moriyama family as a national level athlete, Ichirou decides to use him as coach for his new little league team, the Hatchlings, in which Jiro, Ichirou's second son, will be captain.
  3. Ever heard of condoms? (Neil)
    • The Foxes visit Neil during his recovery. Kevin is late to show up, and when he does, three months after the injury, he reveals that he had been planning to run away with Wymack's help. His plans were foiled when the Moriyama made clear that they know of Kevin's son existence, and they intend to use him in the new little league team. Kevin begs Neil to protect his son, David. Neil accepts.
  4. The Eyrie (Neil)
    • Neil goes through rehabilitation, and he's now able to walk with a prosthetic leg. A woman named Beatrice, who works for the Moriyama family, takes Neil for a visit to the new court, the Eyrie, set in the middle of the desert. Andrew tags along, uninvited. Neil realizes he'll need to live there.
  5. The Hatchlings hatch (Neil)
    • The members of the Hatchling team arrive at the court. Neil is not handling their presence very well, while Andrew seems to be naturally good at handling children. When Kevin drops his son David at the Eyrie, he begs the child to stay away from Jiro Moriyama. David immediately tries to befriend Jiro.
  6. Malcolm like… (Neil)
    • Neil discovers that Melody is related to Lola in some way, and that the girl is aware of Neil's past and true identity. She also seems to despise Neil for some reason.
  7. First day of practice (Andrew)
    • The Hatchlings have their first day of practice. Neil realizes the team is in no shape to tackle the national little league, but he cannot send any of these kids back, or the Moriyama might decide to find a different use for them.
  8. Happy (Andrew)
    • Andrew struggles to handle Ray's anger and Sadie's misery. Neil not only realises that Andrew is very good with children, but he also feels happy around them. Andrew and Neil start suspecting that Cedric might have suffered some serious abuse.
  9. School test and strangulation (David)
    • The children have their first day of class, and David flunks his tests. Mr. Suji seems scary, but not as scary as Melody strangling Ray. Jiro leaves his bed in the middle of the night. David is curious, but he loses him before he can find out where he is going.
  10. Unpaid labour (Neil)
    • Andrew and Neil can't break through Melody's aggressive mindset. They want to install proper stalls for the kids to change and shower, so they call Matt for help with the installation. Matt brings his daughter Alice with him. While Andrew is watching the Hatchlings and Alice, Matt and Neil take care of the stalls. The two friends discuss the possibility for Neil to play para-exy and talk with a therapist Neil shots both options down. Matt freaks out when he sees Alice playing too close to Andrew's armbands. Matt's reaction makes Andrew spiral and enrages Neil.
  11. Doctor Aaron (Andrew)
    • Andrew practices with the Hatchlings goalkeepers. Aaron and Bee arrive at the Eyrie Court after being called by Andrew. After a check-up, Aaron confirms that Cedric has been abused. Bee comments on Ray's needs for connection and positive reinforcements. Andrew and Aaron have a heart to heart.
  12. Taking your issues into your thirties (Neil)
    • After finding out that Cedric is food insecure, Andrew and Neil have a fight about Neil's unwillingness to fix his own mental issues and acknowledge his disability. Their sex life is at a halt since Neil's injury.
  13. I’m not being paranoid (Neil)
    • Asahi Ito arrives at the Eyrie and takes Jiro away with him for a while. Beatrice also comes to the Court and asks Neil if there are any kids he wants to swap. Neil assures her no one will leave the team. After Beatrice leaves, Andrew and Neil realise that Melody is gone. They find her hiding in a cupboard in the Coach's office, holding a gun. Neil decides to let her keep the gun, against Andrew's opinion. Neil promises to teach the kids who to shoot.
  14. Sometimes you just feel like stabbing someone (David)
    • Jiro is acting really weird. David is worried they are no longer friends. Seeing the coaches kiss in the cafeteria makes a fight explode among Ray and the other kids. To explain what happened to Ray, Melody uses says some horrible things about Andrew, that make Cedric really angry. Cedric attacks Melody, but gets stopped by Andrew. David feels very distressed by seeing Cedric so upset. Jiro manages to rein Melody in.
  15. You don’t even know what they do (Andrew)
    • Andrew and Neil calm down Cedric from his bad crisis. Andrew realises he has already completely adopted this child. Andrew goes to speak with Melody about what she said in the cafeteria. A detail has made Andrew realise that the girl knows of the sexual abuse he went through before Drake Spear. Melody confirms. The Moriyama have an archive full of information of all people connected to their operations, that's how she knows. Andrew starts suspecting that the Moriyama might have been involved in his childhood abuse. If he had been trafficked in a pedophile ring, Andrew wants to know. Andrew calls Aaron and asks him to collect a folder of documents from his years in foster care. Aaron accepts, in exchange of knowing why Andrew suddenly wants to reconnect with his past.
  16. David has a bad day (David)
    • David is not doing well at exy. He has trouble focusing. Theo tells David that he should consider abandoning the team, to avoid his father the humiliation of seeing him play. David asks Neil if he can call his dad. Kevin tells him he will never be disappointed in him, but he has to play to win. Neil and Andrew argue about Andrew leaving exy for good. At night, David notices Jiro leaving his bed again, and this time he follows him to his destination: Mr. Suji's room. The teacher discovers David eavesdropping and talks with Jiro about the necessity of getting rid of David in case he heard something dangerous. David bolts out of the room.
  17. Two promises (David)
    • Jiro drags David to the third floor of the Eyrie, which is protected by a coded door that Mr. Suji can't pass. Jiro explains that Mr. Suji is helping him stay in contact with his brother Kengo and his mother. If Ichirou were to find out that they are conspiring against him, he would kill them all. David promise not to tell anyone Jiro's secret, and Mr. Suji in turns promises not to hurt David, as long as he keeps his mouth shut.
  18. Phobias don’t need to make sense (Neil)
    • Neil and Andrew finish arguing about Andrew leaving exy. They wake up the kids. David has a terrified reaction to be woken up. Neil knows Jiro had been up to something. Neil confronts Jiro in his room, and the boy has a bad reaction to being cornered. Neil and Andrew's cats seem to make him upset. Neil calls Jean asking for advice on how to deal with the little Moriyama.
  19. David knows (Jiro)
    • Jiro is scared of the Butcher's son and wants to get his suspicions off his back. Jiro takes David to a secret night practice, knowing that the two coaches are following them closely. Jiro hopes to make them think that the only secret Jiro is keeping is some innocent night practices.
  20. Tiny steps forward (Andrew)
    • Neil and Andrew don't fall for Jiro's plan, but they start considering that the boy might not have any ill intention towards David after all. Andrew, Neil and Cedric have a quick midnight ice cream together. Aaron calls Andrew, informing him that he has the folder he asked for, and inviting him to his house to collect it, and spend some time with Katelyn. Andrew misses his sex life with Neil, but he doesn't want to pressure him after his amputation.
  21. The coyote howls again (Andrew)
    • Andrew and Neil talk about the possibility of Andrew being trafficked as a child. Andrew has a therapy session with Bee, about how to handle the conversation he wants to have with Aaron, about his child abuse. Cedric has another nightmare, and this time he comes to the coaches door by himself, to ask for help. Andrew is comforted by this development, as it means the child is starting to trust them. Andrew and Cedric have a talk. The boy starts communicating in writing. Andrew tries to get the child to open up about the abuse he went through.
  22. A gentle child (Andrew)
    • Andrew goes to Aaron's house. He has a confrontation with Katelyn, in which the two find some common ground. Andrew and Aaron go over Andrew's foster care folder. They find baby pictures and diary accounts from his first social worker, Leonard. Andrew piles up all the reports from people who had tried to look out for him when he was a child. Leonard describes baby Andrew as a "gentle child".
  23. I promise, Andrew (Andrew)
    • Andrew and Aaron keep going through the folder, until Andrew lines up the papers related to the houses in which he was sexually abused. He tells Aaron what happened.
  24. A negative correlation (Neil)
    • After coming back to the Eyrie, Andrew finds out that Beatrice and Asahi had been there while he was gone. They left the new team bus parked in the front. Melody disappeared again to hide in the cupboard in the coach's office, and Jiro was taken away by Aashi. Jiro seems distressed again, after Asahi and Beatrice leave. Andrew and Neil decide to build separate rooms for some of the more troubled kids, so they ride with the entire team on the bus to a mall. They buy equipment for the new rooms and they spoil the children with new toys and clothes.
  25. The sound of laughter (Ray)
    • At breakfast the coaches talk about a surprise they are all going to unpack in the afternoon. Ray is suspicious. Every surprise he might have expected from his uncle had been belittlement and abuse. Ray struggles in every aspect of his life at the Court. He can't stop fighting with the other kids, he can't stop antagonising the coaches, and he flunks every exercise during the lessons. The coaches are endlessly patient with his angry outbursts. When he discovers the surprise is a room all to himself, Ray is sure until the very end it is just a mean joke. Judie is upset that Ray, who does nothing but causing trouble, would get a private room while she didn't. Ray hits her and loses complete control of himself. Andrew helps him calm down. Afterwards, the two of them talk about Ray's room and the boy staying with them indefinitely. Ray struggles to believe it.
  26. Pain (Neil)
    • Judie feels overlooked in the team. Neil has phantom pain, but since it's not "actual" pain, he doesn't think it's information worth sharing. Neil's role as a little league Coach is made public. Neil asks Melody how is she liking her new room, but in turn he gets nothing but venom. Melody feels attacked, and promises revenge.
  27. A nice day of practice (Andrew)
    • Andrew is worried about Neil's quick declining mental state. Andrew practices one on one with Sadie. Sadie is starting to like exy a whole lot. Andrew talks Ray through the first steps on how to get a hold of his anger. Matt informs Andrew that the Foxes found a para-exy team for Neil, and they want to ask him to join.
  28. Samuel Fucking Little (Neil)
    • Matt, Dan, little Alice and Wymack come to the Eyrie to propose to Neil to join the national para-exy team. Sadie is jealous of how close Alice and Andrew are. David is happy to see his grandpa. Neil sees a video recorded from the captain (Samuel Little) of the para-exy team, Black Falcons. Neil doesn't think he would fit in in such a team.
  29. What game did you play? (Andrew)
    • Wymack tells Andrew that David had been diagnosed with ADHD when he was four, but both parents refuse to do anything about it. Wymack asks Andrew to talk to Kevin and convince him to medicate David. But Andrew refuses categorically. The children are playing family, but they struggle to include Jiro in the game. Sadie and Alice have a fight.
  30. The devil and the Dinos (Jiro)
    • The first game of the Hatchlings is against the Dinos. Outside the Court a big crowd has gathered for Jiro and David. Beatrice and security open a way to the entrance for them. Jiro is weary of the woman, because he knows her as Beatrice Malcolm, the new Butcher of the Moriyama and mother of Melody. Melody is indeed terrified of the woman, so Jiro helps the girl to get around her. Kevin is also at the Stadium and he takes David to officially present him as his son in front of the cameras. Jiro knows this will inevitably tie David to the Moriyama's affairs and tries to stop it.
  31. The first game (David)
    • David feels pressured by his father's presence and popularity. Melody is not her usual self in the game, she keeps making mistake after mistake. Jiro finds a way to take advantage of David's strong traits. The two of them bring the Hatchlings to victory.
  32. The Butcher’s daughter (Melody)
    • Melody is terrified of her mother still lingering in the Court. She has a panic attack in the shower stalls when she sees that her first period has come. Neil finds her distraught, and he guides her through it. Melody struggles to accept that Nathaniel could ever be genuine. He is the reason the Malcolm family was dragged into the Butchers' role, and he must pay for it.
  33. You look nothing like him (Neil)
    • The exy magazines are reporting on the Hatchlings victory as the rise of Riko and Kevin's heirs. Neil finds a wrapped gift on his bad and opens it to find a USB stick. In it, he finds a list of videos. He clicks on the first one. It's a recording of his capture in Baltimore. Andrew finds Neil as he watches the videos transfixed in horror. Andrew stops the recording and calms Neil down. Neil convinces Andrew that he should keep watching because it would be a therapeutic experience, like when Andrew did trauma narration with Bee. Andrew is very skeptical but he can't shake Neil out of his conviction.
  34. Taking the lid off the box (Andrew)
    • After the first video, others about Neil's childhood roll in. Neil has a bad mental health crisis that scares Andrew. Andrew calls Aaron for backup.
  35. I don’t know how (Aaron)
    • While Andrew is busy taking care of the kids, Aaron convinces Neil to take anti-depressant to combat the phantom pain. Aaron forces Neil into the shower and he convinces him to really start working on his mental health.

  38. Cats (Neil)
    • The kids and the coaches all watch a game between the Red Sharks and the Lynxes together. Neil figures out what Jiro is hiding, and he convinces the boy to let the coaches into the third floor. They find a torture chamber where Asahi has been training Jiro, using a bunch of cats. Andrew frees the animals, and Neil promises that Jiro will no longer have to deal with Asahi and that Neil is now in charge of Jiro's education.
  39. But what about THE GOOD VIBES (Jiro)
    • Jiro communicates with Kengo through Mr. Suji's computer. Jiro asks Kengo how and when was Aashi removed from Jiro's care, but Kengo replies that that never happend. Nonetheless, Kengo tells his brother to trust the Butcher's son. He also tells Jiro that Makino, their mother, is dead.
  40. The hole (Neil, Andrew)
    • Neil won't allow Jiro to be taken by Asahi again. That means challenging Ichirou himself. Neil is scared that his actions might put the children at risk, so he finds a hiding place, a cave in the desert, and he teaches the children how to reach it fast and safely in the event of an emergency. He will then stock the cave with all the essential for survival.
  41. Proper friends? (David)
    • Jiro is acting very distant and David is worried. Neil brings the children to the cave again, and this time he teaches them how to shoot. David, after being too careless with the gun, is forbidden from touching it again. Theo shows amazing shooting skills. Back at the outside court, Jiro retreats to the kids' room, while the others stay outside. Theo convinces David that they should become proper friends for Jiro's sake. Theo tells David he must hide in the desert so that they can play hie and seek. David doesn't trust Theo, but he wants to believe he is being genuine.
  42. David disappears (Jiro)
    • David disappears and the entire team starts looking for him. Jiro knows Theo is somehow responsible. David is then found, dehydrated and upset, but safe.
  43. The best blood (Theodore)
    • Theo doesn't understand why nobody seems to care that he is the best in pretty much anything. He was sent there by his family to befriend Jiro, but nothing seems to work. He tried to get rid of Jiro's pet, but that did nothing but turning Jiro against him even more. In the end, Theo asks David for forgiveness, and he asks him to teach him how he can befriend Jiro. David accepts, because he believes that somebody should teach Theo how to be a good person.
  44. I will stand with you (David)
    • David tries to teach Theo how to make friends, but the boy is irredeemable. He even throws a racial slurs at David's face like it means nothing. David is upset. When Theo realises that Jiro will know that he hurt David, and hate Theo even more for it, he asks David to forgive him. But when David doesn't budge, Theo doubles down on his insults. David and Jiro talk about what happened, and David make Jiro promise that he will try to turn Theo around.
  45. I will miss her forever (Jiro)
    • Jiro thinks that keeping Theo close is the only way to ensure David's safety at this point. David has a brief and unsatisfying call with his mom, and he is left upset by the end of it. Jiro inadvertently reveals that his own mother is dead.
  46. Does the monster have a name (Andrew)
    • Andrew interrogates Cedric about some creepy drawings of monsters that he has been doing. He wants to know the monsters names. But Cedric never answers the question. Andrew finds a different drawing in the pile of a superhero. Cedric explain that superhero kill monsters.
  47. Traitor (Jiro, Neil)
    • Asahi arrives to the Eyrie, and Neil makes it clear to him that he is no longer in charge of Jiro's education. Neil straps the men to a table and carves the word "traitor" on his forehead. He then tell him to go grovel back to his master.
  48. Welcome to the Eyrie (Ichirou)
    • In the last years, Ichirou has been eradicating the traitors that came from his wife's scheme, and now the organisation has been left weakened because of it. His son Kengo is also reason of great instability. Kengo is the least suitable person to inherit the Moriyama's empire, and Ichirou is finally coming to term with the fact that the boy must be removed, in favour of his younger brother. When he finds out that Nathaniel Wesniski has accused Asahi of treachery, Ichirou knows he must go to the Eyrie and pay both Nathaniel and Jiro a visit.
  49. What Neil does best (Neil)
    • Ichirou arrives at the Eyrie with Asahi and other guards. Neil claims that Asahi has intentionally ruined Jiro's education, by turning him into an obedient dog instead of a real Moriyama. Ichirou decides to judge the boy by himself. Ichirou asks Jiro to swallow poison, and the boy was just about to obey without hesitation when he gets stopped. Ichirou agrees that Asahi sabotaged the family, so Ichirou kills him. Ichirou explains that he will need the boy turned into a proper Moriyama within a year, because he intends to raise him as his heir. Neil convinces Ichirou to leave Jiro's education in his hands for the following year, but in reality he is planning of using that time to destroy the Moriyama empire.
  50. One year (Andrew)
    • Andrew and Neil agree to bring down the empire together. To develop a plan, they need as much information as they can gather.
  51. Who you are meant to be (Kengo)
    • Jiro communicates with Kengo through the chat. He asks him what's going on, why was Ichirou at the Eyrie? Kengo understands that Ichirou has finally decided to favour his younger son, and that he will soon order Kengo's death. After Makino's death, the entire resistance was annihilated and now Kengo doesn't know how they can still possibly win. He still dreams of taking his brother and running to Russia, but Jiro says he'd rather stay and die than run. Their mother taught them that destroying the Moriyama was their purpose.
  52. A really bad plan (Kengo)
    • When Ichirou comes back home, Kengo tries his best to kill him. Instead, he gets injured and captured. As Ichirou is ready to execute his son, Anthony Woolrdige asks who should take his place as heir. Ichirou isn't ready to nominate Jiro, but gets enraged when Anthony proposes his own son, Theodore, instead. So Ichirou will keep Ichirou alive until Jiro will be ready to take his place. Two guards, Han and Patrick are in charge of taking Ichirou to a safe location and keep him there, alive, for the next twelve months. The guards also take a prostitute with them, Yanisa, despite Ichirou's orders.
  53. Happy, happy, happy (Cedric)
    • Cedric is getting used to his life at the Eyrie. He feels safe with Neil and Andrew, and he refuses to think about anything that happened to him before coming here. When he hears David saying that the Christmas holiday are coming up and all the kids will go back home, Cedric has a crises. He starts believing that Andrew and Neil will send him back from where he came from. When Andrew tries to comfort him, confused by his outburst, Cedric attacks him. After passing out, Cedric dreams about his nicest memory, when a superhero killed his abuser. The superhero told him that his brother Jiro will be at the Eyrie to help him if he ever has trouble. So when Cedric wakes up, he runs to Jiro for help.
  54. You can stay (Andrew)
    • Cedric communicates with Jiro about his fear of being sent back. Jiro says as much to Andrew, who is appalled to hear what the kid had thought. He then gathers the kids and explains that Andrew and Neil will protect all of them, and they will keep whoever wants to stay. Unexpectedly, Harry asks to stay with them. Afterwards, Cedric and Andrew make peace.
  55. Doing right by them (Andrew)
    • Andrew finds out that after Ichirou's visit, Neil had turned out Samuel's offer for the Balck Falcons. Andrew, furious, contacts the captain and accepts the contract in Neil's place. Neil is angry at Andrew, but he can't do anything other than going along with it. The Black Falcons arrive and they have their first practice with Neil. Meanwhile, Andrew summoned Aaron to help him look through his folder again to find information about the alleged pedophile ring and the connection with the Moriyama.
  56. A pair of sharp eyes (Kengo)
    • Kengo and Yanisa escape from Ichirou's man. Kengo promises to protect Yanisa's daughter from his father's revenge. Yanisa hid her daughter Sadie in the exy program.

Both Ray and Cedric retaliate, costing the suspension of the game a red card each and Neil losing his temper with a snarky Melody. Back at the Eyrie, Neil consoles Sadie and he finally manages to contact her mother. Miss Lu confirms she'll come to pick her daughter up for Christmas break.

To be continued…
