Chapter Text
”Even without a quirk, can I still be a hero?”
”Look kid, it’s not gonna happen. Be realistic and…”
Izuku tuned out what he said after that. He didn’t want to hear it; he didn’t want his dreams to shatter more than they already had. His idol had said the one thing he didn’t want to hear. The one thing he couldn’t hear, not without his life falling apart. That he couldn’t be a hero.
At some point Izuku had gotten off the roof and made his way back home. The last time he had checked the time it was 15:30 and it was now nearing 7pm. Luckily, his mum was working late so he got to avoid the questions that she would have asked- namely why was he back late , something he wouldn’t have willingly coughed up the answer to (unlike the sludge that had been stuck in his throat and that he was now, all of sudden, acutely aware of and how uncomfortable it was).
After taking off his shoes and abandoning his bag in his room, he went to the bathroom to tend to his injuries and hopefully get the sludge out of his throat as it became increasingly more annoying and made breathing difficult and slightly painful.
After what felt like hours but probably being no more than five minutes, he finally coughed up all the sludge, giving him a sore throat in the process. He had a look over his injuries and added them to his mental log. Another burn from Kacchan, bruises from Kacchan’s friends, other random scrapes and bruises from the others, but nothing el- wait. Why was there a bruise in the shape of a handprint? A big one at that! Was it from All Might? It can’t be. He should know how much strength to use to not injure the people he’s trying to save. He’s been a hero for as long as Izuku has been alive for crying out loud! But it was in the same place where he had grabbed him.. No! It is not the time for speculation. It’s time to bandage everything. Besides he was probably overthinking everything like he always does, right?
Izuku didn’t know what to do with himself. His mum had texted him a couple minutes ago saying she was staying at work overnight meaning, he had the entire place to himself. But despite that he ended up in his bedroom. So here he was, lying on his bed whilst Kacchan’s voice played through his head on full blast. (pun not intended)
’take a swan dive off the roof of the building.’
Surely he didn’t mean that right? Even if he didn’t, why did he say it? You shouldn’t say that kind of thing to someone, especially a friend…
Friend..?
Were they still - or ever - friends? It didn’t seem like it. Maybe. When they were little. Before everyone’s quirks came in. All but his. The only reason he still called him Kacchan was… was… why did he call him that? They haven’t had an actual conversation in years! Maybe because it reminded him of simpler times? But was it ever that simple?
He was spiralling and he knew it.
But did he really care?
Yes. Yes he did.
To distract himself he went to do his homework. And… he had done it all. Curse him for being efficient. Wait what is- oh yeah. The book Bakugo blew up. Seriously what kind of person does that?
Ok
He needed these thoughts to stop.
How you ask? Well he didn’t know either.
Hmm… quirk analysis! He could rewrite the book too! Although, it would probably be best to focus on something that didn’t encourage those thoughts for now so he went online to look for quirks to look at.
After scrolling through a couple HeroNet profiles he found someone that caught his eye.
Vlad King. His quirk was Blood control. Okay…
So, he can control his blood once it leaves his body. I wonder.. if it’s done through a DNA connection does that mean he could control a relatives blood as well or what about if he donated blood. Would he be able to control the receiver’s blood as it mixes with his own. Or maybe he could locate it like a tracker of some sorts…
Before he knew it 2 pages had been filled with his analysis of Vlad’s quirk and he was happy with his work. He decided to take a break and went onto social media to see what was going on and if there was anything he wanted analyse.
After a while of mindless scrolling, he was ultimately going to give up and go grab a snack when he saw a post asking for help.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help me with my quirk. I can break down light into a physical form that I can manipulate and use how I see fit. I don’t know what else I would be able to do with it or how I can improve it. I would really appreciate the help as I am aiming to get into a hero school in a few years!
A quirk that breaks down light… That sounds really powerful and interesting. He liked the sound of the challenge.

That quirk sounds really powerful and useful! You could definitely be a pro hero as along as you put in the effort! Since you can convert light into a physical matter does that mean you can change the colour and by extension could you make illusions or holograms. Also, we could speculate that, as visible light is on the electromagnetic spectrum, you could do the same thing with something like Ultraviolet or infrared radiation. If this is true it could also mean that, hypothetically, that you might possibly be immune to the effect of UV like skin cancer. Or you body might somehow have a natural immunity to some types of cancer because of gamma radiation often being used to treat it.
Hope this helped!
Izuku now felt all warm and fuzzy inside and he assumed this was what helping others felt like. What being an hero felt like. Either that or it was pride and he knew Kacch- Bakugo definitely wouldn’t be feeling this with the kind of personality he has so he guessed it was the prior. Either way three things were clear: he was proud of himself, he was hungry and now that he knew All Might was quirkist, having his face plastered all over his walls felt really uncomfortable.
