Chapter Text
Macaque teleported around the island, trying to find Wukong. When he finally found him, he was laying in a tree while keeping an eye on Xiaotian, who was playing with the monkeys. Macaque teleported next to him, causing Wukong to nearly fall out of the tree.
"You've gotta stop doing that," Wukong said, obviously annoyed.
Macaque ignored him. "We need to talk." His tail flicked back and forth anxiously.
This caused Wukong's expression to darken. "About what?"
Macaque looked around to make sure no one was listening. "I overheard Azure and Peng talking."
"What did they say?" Wukong was starting to get anxious.
"They said they were going to try to find and army. And they are going to try to take Xiaotian." Now Macaque's tail was swishing back and forth rapidly. He was shaking all over and his fur was fluffed up; he was clearly nervous.
Wukong saw this and put his hands on Macaque's shoulders as a way of grounding him. "Hey, we'll figure it out. Okay?"
Macaque met Wukong's eyes. He nodded. He wasn't quite sure how they were going to get through this, but Wukong looked like he had an idea.
After looking at each other for a moment, Wukong pulled Macaque into his arms. They stood there for a while until they heard a little voice calling for them. They pulled apart and saw little Xiaotian looking around; all the little monkeys had gone back to their parents.
The two monkeys in the tree climbed down into Xiaotian's field of vision. Xiaotian immediately ran up to them, giving each of them a hug.
"Hey bud. How's it going?" Wukong asked as Xiaotian climbed onto his shoulder, blissfully unaware of the discussion the older monkeys had just had.
Xiaotian yawned before saying, "Good. I'm hungry though. Can we get some food?"
This made Macaque smile for the first time since hearing Azure and Peng's conversation. "Of course. Let's go." The black-furred monkey picked Xiaotian up off of Wukong's shoulder and started carrying him back to the house. Wukong stared after them for a second, a smile on his face, before following after. He swore to himself that he would protect them both, no matter what.
