Chapter 1: Not Alone

Chapter Text

The flashing lights were blinding, the loud music and screams blasted my ears, body burning from all the alcohol, my senses were all overwhelmed, I was overwhelmed. Alone, in the middle of this random party, the only 2 people I really knew, Tara and Jake, were nowhere to be seen. I tried calling out Jake’s name but to no avail. Too awkward and out of it to look for either of them or find new people, I drank. I didn’t know what I was drinking anymore, all I could tell is it made me feel numb. Shot after shot, I kept drinking hoping one of them would soon show up by the drinks table.

But they never did.

After who knows how long, I couldn’t feel my body, I couldn’t feel anything. My feelings and body a mess, I stumbled around, I couldn’t-... I didn’t want to be alone. Squeezing past people, my vision continuing to worsen, I shake my head around, eyes darting everyone trying to make out Tara and Jake in the crowd. Finally, my eyes land on a tall, muscular man with a messy brown mullet. I pathetically stumble over to him and wrap my arms loosely around him as my vision finally fades.

*Jakes pov*

I dragged Johnnie to a party where he knew no one and I lost him…. He’ll probably be fine, Tara and Scuff were here and it was a huge party so he’d probably find someone… holy shit I have to find Johnnie. Knowing him, he probably doesn’t even know Scuff is here and is cowering in the corner hoping Tara or me finds him. I finish my drink and toss my cup to the side as I try to look for Johnnie. Unfortunately, because of his short height and dark hair, he blended in with the crowd. As I worriedly ran around, making sure to check every corner and dark space, Johnnie was nowhere to be seen. Well isn’t this great.

“JAKE!” A voice shouted behind me.

I whipped my head around to find someone who was definitely not Johnnie. I couldn’t make out who they were for my vision and hearing was too fucked up to really make out the person. Nervously but trying to put on a calm front, I greet them and ask if they’d seen Johnnie but they shake their head no. Turning away to try and continue looking for Johnnie, a hand grabs my wrist. This random person pulls me back and starts throwing questions at me with an excited tone. “Hey I’m sorry but I have to go look for som-”
“Wait! I-I just have a couple questions, it won’t be long!” Unsure and uncomfortable, I agree to stay and answer. But the questions keep coming and I can’t find a way out. “Look I really have to go I’m sorry-?!” I’m cut off my arms wrapping around me. I look down confused and concerned to find a mop of dead, black hair. This… was Johnnie. Thank god he found me. “Johnnie! Dude where have you been? I was tryna look for you!” No response. “Johnnie?” I brush his hair aside to see his eyes closed and his chest rising and falling in a rhythm. I sigh and excuse myself, finally being let go as they see Johnnie resting against me. Knowing he’s deep asleep to be able to stay sleeping through this noise, I lift up Johnnie bridal style. (A bit embarrassing but it’s the easiest way to move him.) Lifting Johnnie was easy because he was so light and small, he fit perfectly into my arms. His face twitched, eyes squeezing shut, pale face accentuating his flushed face.

On the side of the road, Johnnie in my arms, head resting against my chest, I order an uber and wait. The music still buzzed in my ears but my hearing was returning. My vision was almost fine again for having Johnnie resting peacefully in my arms just sobered me up. The cool breeze blew past my face, hitting my exposed skin but I wasn’t cold. How could I be cold with Johnnie’s small body radiating heat in my arms. Staring at Johnnie’s peaceful resting face, mascara and eyeshadow smudged across his face, mouth slightly ajar, a small bit of drool piling on the corner of his mouth. A car honked behind me. I turn my head as the car window rolls down, “Jake?” I nod my head. Moving Johnnie to rest over my shoulder, I open the car door and lay Johnnie on the seats. Scooting in, I lay Johnnie's head atop my lap as the car starts to drive.

*Johnnies pov*

My head throbbed, body slightly burned as I slowly opened my eyes to reveal my bedroom's dark ceiling. Rubbing my tired eyes, I lay in bed questioning everything I did yesterday. Was drinking my thoughts and feelings away really worth the pain throbbing throughout my body? I turn onto my side, rolling myself deeper into my blankets and see a note next to a glass of water and a pill. Rising from the depths of my blankets, I lift the note and just barely make out the words, ‘Drink this whole glass when you wake up, you must be dehydrated as shit. I stepped out for a moment to grab lunch, I’ll be home soon. Love mama bear’… Fuck Jake is just so sweet. Grabbing the pill, I chug it down with the glass of water, choking when the cool water hit the back of my dry throat. I slowly swung my slightly numb legs to the side of my bed in order to get out and actually do something. Seeing the light outside my room, I leave my room hoping Jake is out there. Dragging my numb, tired body to the living room, eyes blinded as they try to adjust to the light, I hoped Jake would be there eating on the couch. And there he was. I stood by the doorway, watching Jake eat as he scrolled on his phone, giggling. I couldn’t help but smile at the sweet sight before me.

“Johnnie?” I flinch at my name being called.

“H-hey Jake…” I coughed out, my voice hoarse from the alcohol and lack of use. Jake let out a small laugh as he got up and walked towards me. Looking down on me… ‘Fuck why must he be taller.’ He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into a bear hug. “Sorry I lost you last night, I’m glad you found me.” I smiled in his arms and wrapped mine around him.
