Chapter Text
Lemon in the Eye, Salt in the Wound
Chapter 1 Networking
"I keep a pistol under my pillow at night. I close the curtains and I sharpen my knife. I build my walls and I build 'em up so high, so no one's getting inside, I learned my lesson last time…"
You turned up the volume louder. Your left foot bobbed subtly to the beat of the song. A steady, slow inhale came in through your nose. You held your breath in for a few seconds and then slowly exhaled through your mouth. Eyes were shut as you took a moment, wanting to decompress further and continue with your work.
But lately, it seemed to become increasingly harder to do. It became that much more difficult, that much harder to look away, increasingly impossible to ignore…
Your fangs bit into your lower lip, trying your hardest to not break the sensitive flesh. You took another deep series of breaths, trying to reroute your mounting discomfort. The ear buds you had in were already blasting the current song on your playlist quite loudly.
But it wasn't enough.
Get a fucking grip, girl. You had a job to do and you were damn good at it too.
"Babe, just walk away, just walk away, you heading straight for danger."
Your brows creased and furrowed further as you stared at the computer screen. Earlier, your gaze was blank and resigned but the longer this dragged on, the more your stare intensified. Your fingers flexed and dragged along the tabletop, trying to restrain yourself.
Yeah, you loved your job. But this? This fucking sucked.
You breathed a sigh of relief when your music was paused, indicating an incoming call. Any distraction would do at the moment.
"Good evening!" you greeted a little too loudly, a rather large and toothy grin breaking across your face. Even in this phone call, you had to wear your mask. "How can I help you? Do you have an appointment with Mr. Vox?"
The response was an angered and shrill voice practically screaming your name. You flinched, swearing your eardrums were busted from the sheer volume.
"Miss Velvette!" you said, still trying to maintain the charade. "How're you tonight?"
"Yes, bitch, it's me!" the testy overlord snipped back at you. "Where is your boss?! Where is Valentino for that matter?!"
Oh, dear. Of fucking course. You really had to enlighten her, didn’t you?
Your head drooped in defeat and you hesitated for a few seconds. You really wanted to just hang up at this point but she at least deserved the truth.
"Neither of those fuckers will answer my calls!" the chic demon ranted. "All my voicemails, all my texts, nothing! Do you know what those useless sacks of shits are doing?!"
The momentary pause and silence that fell over you after her questions ceased hit you uncomfortably. Almost as if on perfect cue, you heard a throaty moan come from the back room. The noise was so deep, it was impossible to tell whom it came from.
"They're…" you reluctantly admitted, "they're having one of their private conferences…"
"The fuck you mean..!" Velvette started. Then she stumbled over her own words, realizing what you meant. "…for fuck's sake."
"Yeah." You exhaled. Another yell came from the room, one begging the other to go faster and harder. "I guess both had a particularly stressful day…"
"So have I! Ugh, fine, whatever. They'll check their phones after they're done rearranging their fucking insides."
"I'll tell them you are very adamant about getting a hold of them, Miss Velvette."
"Yeah, I'm gonna kill both those bastards when I get my hands on them! Tell them I'm down in my studio waiting for them when they're done!"
"Will do. Sorry for the inconvenience."
"Pft! Bitch, I'm sorry you have to listen to them!"
The overlord hung up. Thank God.
You dropped the fake smile and sighed. You could feel a headache starting to form, feeling as if a vice was being compressed around the sides of your head.
No force on Heaven, Earth or Hell could make you focus now. Even after Velvette ended her call and your music began to play again, it was impossible to get back on track. The husky screams and deep moans mixed in with the music and you dragged a palm down your face. Idly, you spun around in your chair, sinking back into the plush, cushioned leather. More than anything else, you just wanted to go home, crawl into your bed and sleep the rest of your afterlife away.
You glanced at the digital clock on the right corner of your desk. Ten more minutes until break time. This was a hell within Hell.
There were countless times where you caught yourself wondering how you came to be in this mess. How and why had you gotten here? Maybe you should've stayed in the place where you first spawned into Hell. It probably would've made things way less complicated and ugly.
You did have a place to go to in case if things got to that point but you knew that likelihood was a fat chance. You were simply too efficient, simply too much of a hard worker. The choice you made was of your own free will and you ran with it. Now, you had no one to blame but yourself.
You were snapped out of your inner recollections and woes when you heard the door behind you open. Eyes widened and you straightened your posture. You pulled up the spreadsheet you had been previously reviewing earlier on the laptop screen, trying to look busy. You didn't turn in your seat to face whoever was exiting the office, not wanting to look either of them in the eye. You had to pretend to be ignorant…or at the very least, pretend that it didn’t bother you something fierce.
When you heard a low chuckle coming from behind you, your left eye twitched subtly. You slapped on your perfected smile and continued to review the booked appointments for the upcoming week. There was no way you were going to give him any satisfaction or even acknowledge his existence.
However, he forced his presence upon you and you didn't dare to ignore him at that point.
"Look at you, sweetheart," the moth demon crooned. His clawed hands rested on your desk and he lowered his posture, wanting to level your eyes with his. "Always work and no play! That must be so tedious and demanding…"
The overlord's red eyes peered into yours. His glasses were worn crookedly and his jacket was on rather sloppily. A thin stream of pink saliva trickled down his chin, dripping into your half filled, cold mug of coffee. The moth demon looked disheveled and absolutely smug.
"It's fine, Mr. Valentino," you responded politely. "I don't mind. Hell isn't necessarily a cheap place to live in anyway."
"You know, you should reconsider my offer," the pimp silkily pressed. "You are stunning and the way you walk is like art in motion. Your hips look amazing too, you know, more pushin' for the cushion!" He laughed gently. "No, no, I'm not telling you to quit your job and ditch your contract…but you should consider a little side gig if you need a quick buck and a new experience. You won't regret it, sweetheart."
"I'm flattered, sir, I am. But I'm camera shy and that type of work is not my thing. Thank you for the offer though."
"Suit yourself! But you know who to go to if you change your mind. Don't be shy, I don't bite…too hard anyway."
"Oh, by the way, Mr. Valentino, Miss Velvette is looking for you and Mr. Vox. She called me, wanting to know of your whereabouts. I told her the both of you were in a conference."
His smile turned upside down and he instantly looked annoyed.
"Ugh, that demanding cunt," he snarled. He dug through his pocket and pulled out his phone, his eyes narrowing as he saw all the missed calls and texts from his business partner. "Vox!" He slammed an open palm on your desk, making all the items on it briefly shake. "We gotta go see what the fuck she wants! This better be good or I swear to God..!"
"I'll catch up, just go ahead," the demon said from his office.
"Oh, no, fuck that! You're coming with me!" A sickening smile spread across his face again. "Again…"
"Val, just go! God fucking dammit, stop acting like a toddler having a tantrum! Go! I'll catch up in a few minutes. Let me at least look presentable!"
"Fine. Fucking pussy."
Valentino growled lowly and mercifully left your vicinity. You watched, shooting a withering glare at the back of his head as he walked to the elevator and entered it. The moth demon spared you a glance as the doors slowly closed, spittle still dribbling down his chin. He winked at you before the doors finally shut and sending him on his way and out of your hair.
When the doors closed, you finally allowed yourself to scowl. An ugly and heavy frown was plastered on your face and more than anything else, you wanted to throw your tainted mug at the elevator, shattering it to atoms in the process. But no, you were strictly professional. You had an image to maintain.
"Did Velvette say what she wanted exactly?"
You sunk into your chair subtly, then you glanced at your clock. Only a few more minutes until breaktime.
"No, sir," you responded. "She just wanted me to say she'd be in her studio waiting for you and Valentino. She was pissed, that's all I know."
"Shocker," the TV demon droned sarcastically, "that's not surprising at all."
You heard his footfalls approaching. Still, you maintained the illusion, looking over the appointments.
Everything was fine. You were as cold as ice.
You could see him emerge from his office out of the corner of your eye. You acknowledged him, facing him.
Vox's head was tilted downwards, devoted to buttoning up his shirt. His bowtie was undone as well. The look on his face was one of exhaustion and he appeared even more tired than how he looked earlier.
"Sir, do you want me whip you up a quick coffee before I go on break?" you offered, your expression softening. You crossed your legs and inwardly reprimanded yourself.
"What I would like is a scotch on the rocks," Vox said, finally focusing on his bowtie. "Have it ready for me when I get back. Use my biggest glass."
"Notify me when you are on your way so it won't be sitting around for too long."
"What's my earliest appointment for tomorrow?"
You glanced at the planner and luckily it was on the tab for the next day.
"Uh, looks like eight in the morning," you read. "Eight in the morning with the Angelic Security investors."
"Fuck," he exhaled. "Cancel it. But do it when you get back from your break. I'm not gonna recover from the hangover by then."
"Alright, sir."
"Then go home."
"Are you sure, sir?"
"Yeah, yeah. I'm not gonna take anymore calls or meetings today, I'm done."
The longer you looked back at him, the more you noticed something. There was a small crack in the corner of his screen and it looked like it had spiderwebbed into tinier fractures. You were sure it wasn't there earlier.
It stuck out like a sore thumb to you. This couldn't be ignored, even if you tried your hardest.
You left your desk, moving past him, acting like you saw nothing. Valentino's words pestered you and you felt incredibly self conscious. You glowered at the elevator doors ahead of you, inwardly cursing that winged slimeball. You pressed the button on the panel and you waited for the elevator to come up.
The seconds seemed like centuries. It was arduous, even unbearable. The moans, the words, that saliva...that crack.
Your heart nearly leapt in joy when you heard the "ding", signaling the elevator's arrival. You were pushing to get in even before the doors fully parted. You refused to look back into the lobby where Vox still lingered.
You just didn't have the stomach for it.
Hastily, you pressed the button for the ground level, wanting to head out to the veranda for some fresh air. When the doors finally shut, you leaned against the metal wall, exhaling heavily.
"Fuck my life."
(fifteen minutes later)
"Yeah, I don't think I should…"
"Come on, just do it. Our bosses drink on the job too. Girl, you need it."
Begrudgingly, you accepted the flask from your friend. You twisted the cap off and took a swig of the fiery-tasting whiskey. You coughed once but managed to swallow it despite how it burned the back of your throat.
"Lightweight," the dainty looking moth demon said as she smiled at you.
"I'm more of a wine drinker," you rolled your eyes. "Hard liquor and I don't mix well. Cassidy, you should know it. You were holding my hair back at the extermination survival party six months ago."
"Hey, ease up on her," your other friend, a cyclopean demon, teased. "She might've been here longer than both of us but her teeth are dull."
"I've been here long enough, Mo. I've been here long enough to know a thing or two." You sighed and took a second swig from the flask before handing it back to Cassidy. "Ugh, it was awful."
Cassidy offered you a sympathetic look. She let out a sigh and shook her head, her antennae shifting subtly as her head moved. The woman took a hit from her flask as well, drinking to your shared misery.
Both of you had bonded over a mutual hatred and that was initially what enabled you to become friends. A relationship forged in hate was probably not the best or most healthy but luckily, you and the moth demon had evolved past that. After a few decades, you became closer and your friendship was all the more genuine. It also helped that the both of you had died within a few years of each other, making the bonding process easier. Cassidy was a bit on the somber side but she also seemed wise beyond her years. She was grounded and realistic and sometimes, you wished you were as sensible as she was. Sometimes, she was an anchor for you and for that, you were grateful.
"If I had to listen to Valentino and Vox go at each other, I would hurl too." Mo's single eye rolled. "The thought of Val smashing anyone just grosses me out in general."
"Yeah, try living my life," Cassidy drawled. "I'm one of his door girls. You think I enjoy listening to the shit going on behind them? Honestly, at this point, I'm almost hoping Heaven gets pissed enough to come and try to do the extermination again. Hoping they kill my ass too."
"Girl, is your contract that bad?"
"Mo, what do you think? I regret it everyday."
"I'd love to transfer you to my department if it's that bad. Velvette is a bitch herself but I'm happy with her as my boss." Mo paused, her single, huge, pink eye nearly glowing in delight in realization. "Hey, why don't you see if Vel and Val can talk it out? I'm sure they might be willing to chat about it. They're partners anyway. You could even rotate if he's being that much of a dick about it."
"Valentino doesn't like to let folks go." Cassidy took a swig from the flask again. "Creep. Besides, Velvette is a cunt. I'd probably be just as miserable under a contract with her."
"Then there's our little lady here…" Mo smiled devilishly, flashing her sharp fangs at you. "You're happy with your job, ain't you lucky?"
Whereas you and Cassidy had been in Hell for some decades, Mo was relatively newer. She died a few years ago but not more than a decade. She had entered your friend group shortly after she showed up when you bumped into her after a particularly bad, first modeling shoot. You and Cassidy took pity on her, took her out for a night of drinking and it was all history from there. Whereas it could sometimes be difficult for demons from different decades to intermix, it was no issue with Mo. The cyclopean woman was fun and animated and despite her sometimes ditsy and teasing demeanor, she was someone to rely on.
"It has its good and bad days…" you admitted, wanting to dance around it. Though you had vented about this particularly shitty day, you wanted to not dwell on it too much in front of your friends. "It'd be a scam if a job was perfect, right? It is what it is."
Yeah, it was nice, you had to admit it. The pay was great and you had your own work area. You pretty much answered to one person and one person only and you were fine with that. Even if some pretty pushy and insistent clients were adamant about getting an appointment, the decision ultimately came down to what your boss said. Sometimes, it was just delicious shutting them down. Perhaps it was a tad bit petty but oh well. They reaped what they sowed.
"Yeah, there's way more to it than that," Cassidy cooed with a sickening sweetness.
"The flat-faced prince got a crack in his handsome screen and now she's all triggered," Mo snickered, pinching your cheek.
"Shut up," you snipped, "whatever the fuck happens between them is between them and that's it. None of my business."
"Woman, don’t downplay it, okay? Cassidy and I know exactly what you think about Vox. You were ugly crying at that party, blowing chunks into the toilet. You were so wasted! It was pathetic!" Mo laughed loudly, her head tilting back. "You had no chill at all!"
Oh, no. She was not bringing that up. You didn't remember much from that party, that was how blackout drunk you were. But Mo recorded everything and showed it to you the next day.
The gross unprofessionalism was downright pathetic and shameful. But you also didn't get fired. So…maybe it wasn't actually that bad?
"Yeah, hard liquor and I don't mix," you sighed, trying to keep your cool. "So, stop giving me random shots at any more future parties and telling me to chug."
"Yikes, hon, calm down," Mo recoiled slightly. "Truth hurts though…" She gave you an impish smile. "Just come to grips with it and you'll be set free."
You were in staunch denial. You had to be completely professional and leave any and all feelings outside of the workplace. That's how it was. As Vox's secretary and assistant, you had an image to maintain and you wouldn't settle for anything less. A reflection of you would be a reflection of him. And you being three sheets to the wind and wearing your heart on your sleeve wouldn't help matters at all. It would only make things messy and complicated and that was the last thing that you wanted.
But it sucked. It sucked that you felt the way that you did and you couldn't act on it. There were times when you felt like it was driving you insane. You were powerless and you hated it.
However, after seeing that crack on his face…
"I bet she touches herself to him when she's alone at night," Mo continued to poke. "Just seduce him and be done with it, holy shit. Half the building knows you're a massive fucking simp."
"Fuck you," you shook your head, thoroughly unamused. "I don't feel that way for him." With an unbearably proud look, Mo reached into her back pocket, grasping onto her cellphone. "Do not!" You growled lowly, your red sclera glowing slightly brighter in your anger. "Bitch, I thought I told you to delete it!"
"Dunno what you're talking about, honey," Mo shrugged as she scrolled through her phone.
You blinked when you heard the footage.
"Oh…! Oh my God… Cass. Cass! Is he looking over here?! Oh, fucking fuck! Fuck!"
Shame and disgust washed over you. You didn't even need to see the video that was playing. You cringed internally when you could hear yourself throwing up. Honestly, you were happy you didn't remember anything from that party. If you did, you were sure you'd willingly toss yourself onto an Exorcist's spear.
"I-I just love him so much!" In the background, loud, booming music was playing. Mixed in with that were the sounds of your weeping and intermittent puking. "Oh God, I'm a mess! Look at me! I'm disgusting and ugly and gross and disgusting!"
"Bitch, I'll kill you," you seethed at Mo. "Delete that thing already! God, you're fucking sadistic!"
"I'll delete it when you come clean with yourself," she countered.
"Never!"
"You are the worst liar in Hell," Cassidy cackled, her antennae twitching. "We know you got a crush on him. Mo is right. The truth will set you free, just admit it and move along. It's not that bad, my God."
"Yeah, I mean a lot of people simp for him," Mo added.
"No," you said, still refusing. "I respect him and try to make his life easier for him. That's my job, that's it."
"Yeah and he keeps you around. You're obviously doing something right. Plus…" She sweetly cupped your chin. "Helps that you're cute too."
"Ugh, please don't say that, you remind me of the shit that Valentino says to me."
"He says that to everyone, he's a fucking whore."
"You know, I did overhear him talking with Vox a few days ago about a new idea for a movie," the moth demon chimed in. "Something about office sex with a secretary."
The cyclops and the moth demon broke out into hysterics at the sight of your glowing face. The women doubled over in laughter with tears coming out of their eyes.
Humiliated, you averted your gaze, staring at the ground. Deny, deny, deny. It was all you could do. Because if you admitted to your attraction, then everything would go to shit. You'd never hear the end of it. The last thing you needed was Hell-wide humiliation and no one would be able to take you seriously. Maybe they'd even question your ability to do your job.
You heard your phone chime and you looked down. A message flashed up on the screen.
"Be up in twenty, get my drink ready by then. Thanks."
At least you had some time to finish your break but at the same time, you weren't feeling up to more teasing. You'd take your leave.
"As much as I'd love to stay and be dragged through the mud," you started, "I gotta get back to my desk. Some big wig wants to schedule an appointment."
"That sucks," Cassidy said, taking a breather and regaining control on herself. "But yeah, best to not keep any of the Vees waiting."
"Alright, lady," Mo exhaled. "Get your shit done, go home and think of that stud."
"No comment," you smiled, throwing on your mask. "Goodnight, dears."
They didn't need to know anything. You got up and left, making your way back to your workstation. They could tease and poke and prod and torment as much as they pleased. You'd never admit it to the likes of them.
"We have to have a serious sit down and discussion about this problem of yours," Cassidy called out to you. "Horniness can drive demons insane!"
Your response to her was your outstretched middle finger as you kept walking.
(…)
You twisted the cap off of the bottle of scotch, pouring it over the ice. The cubes clinked together and crackled as you decanted the beverage. For a moment, you glanced at the bottle, seeing the vintage. It was one of the older and more expensive ones in his collection. If that was what he wanted, then that was what he got.
Feeling numb and tired, you put the cap back on the bottle and set the scotch in the cabinet. You locked it securely and placed the key in a small drawer beneath the glass cabinet doors.
"Why should it bother you? What do you care?"
Absentmindedly, you stared back at the drink you held in your hand. You lightly swirled the alcohol within it and walked over to the overlord's desk. Gently, you set the glass down, leaving it for him. He would surely show up any minute.
That was your cue. There was no other reason to stay around.
Your eyes flitted to the chaise in the far corner of the office. They narrowed as you spared it an extra second and you turned on your heels.
The room stank and you felt as if you were going to dry heave.
Some days were better than others. This was not one of those good days.
It should've been a great one considering the circumstances. The extermination had been cancelled and you no longer ran the risk of being killed by the angelic monsters for now. You were free to enjoy your afterlife to its fullest extent. There were rumors that the exterminations as a whole had been cancelled for good but you wouldn't hold your breath just yet.
Yeah, it was nice that they were pushed back. The footage was unbelievable and people were still talking about it a week later. It was refreshing to see demonkind actually stood a chance.
But you could not permit yourself to be happy.
You exited Vox's office and made your way to your desk. Quietly, you shut down your laptop and closed it up. Your chair was pushed in and you grabbed your purse that had been discreetly hidden in one of the drawers. You picked up your mug, mentally reminding yourself you should really invest in a sealed tumbler.
"Hell is Hell for a reason."
Your cold coffee had taken a different hue, no thanks to the contaminant in it. Fingers curled tighter around the handle and you stared into the fluid.
"You're on your way out?"
The mug nearly slipped from your grasp when you heard his voice. Your head snapped to his direction, not even hearing the ding of the elevator that signaled his arrival.
"Yes, sir," you said, clearing your throat and hastily throwing on a strained smile. "Your drink is on your desk. Scotch on the rocks in the biggest glass."
The object-headed overlord nodded, pleased that you followed his instructions.
"Thanks, I need it," he said.
You couldn't bring yourself to even look at him. That crack in the screen would bother you again and you didn't know if you'd be able to keep yourself in check again.
"You coming to the next extermination party?" he asked, making his way to his office and help himself to his drink. "It's supposed to be the biggest one ever."
There was no way. You were not going to subject yourself to more torment and humiliation.
"I have plans," you answered.
"Going out with those two friends of yours?" he asked.
"Yeah. They wanna go to Klub Kaiju."
"But parties hosted by the Vees are always the best. We spare no expense. And all members of our inner circles are invited unless forbidden otherwise. Of course, Velvette would want Mo to show up. Of course, Valentino would want his lovely Cassidy accompanying him. Of course, I want my secretary to let her hair down and enjoy herself."
Mentally, you paused. You refused to let your confusion shine on your face. First, you had to find out what this was about.
"Sorry, sir," you asserted. "But I've been to almost every single one hosted by the Vees since I first landed in Hell. And they…"
"Change of scenery," he waved dismissively. "I guess I get it."
"Yes. But I appreciate the offer, sir." You took a few steps closer to the office doors, watching him as he sat down at his desk.
"I believe in rewarding where it's earned and needed. You help keep things sane. You help keep things smooth. And I'm riding high right now."
You watched as Vox plucked up his glass. The overlord looked at it contemplatively for a few seconds and proceeded to chug the contents of it. Your jaw dropped as he emptied it in no time at all, drinking the scotch down completely.
"Fuck, that's the good shit!" he chirped, a smile shining brightly on his screen.
"Uh…" you hesitated, knowing he'd probably be hugging the toilet shortly. "Should I fill you up with more before I go..?"
"No, don't you worry about little old me. I can serve myself, my God. Hey, maybe you want a drink? Take a glass home with you. You've been working for me for forty something years, for Christ's sake. I trust you."
"No thank you, sir. I appreciate it though, really."
He said your name. God, you just wanted to go home.
"Four decades and yet I don't think I ever brought it up before," he said, still smiling. "Did we ever have a drink together? Like, just us?"
"Well, I've sampled drinks from your cabinet before," you answered cautiously. "But…no? Not that I remember."
"That's gonna change then. How about we arrange a little something after the party? When we're both done with work for the day, let's chill out in here and have a few drinks."
….what?
You couldn't react, you couldn't speak. All you could do was stupidly gape back at him, trying to process it all. Where did this come from?
Vox was never truly cruel to you. You kept your head down, did your work and never gave him grief so you figured that was why you were in his good graces. You never gave him a reason to act like a total dick to you, at least intentionally to your knowledge.
He caused you to experience turmoil and frustration in ways you didn't think were possible. You pined and yearned and you had to listen to him fuck Valentino or one of the moth demon overlord's stars in his office at random intervals. Being cucked by him was pure fucking agony.
And now this? What the actual fuck was this?
But you had to say something, anything…
"Are you sure?" you asked, your voice suddenly far mousier than you wanted it in this moment.
Vox rolled his eyes and sighed. He got up, grabbing onto his glass and heading to the liquor cabinet. He opened the drawer, plucking up the key and then unlocked the doors.
"It is what I said it is," he explained, pouring another hearty helping of scotch into his glass. He didn't bother putting ice in it this time. "We drink and talk." He gave you playful grin. "I know you appreciate a nice buzz every now and then. Nothing wrong with it. Makes this shithole a bit more tolerable and pleasant, doesn't it?"
"…yeah," you said, your smile having totally evaporated in your shock.
"Uh huh. So yeah, let's chat and chug."
"Okay."
Vox took a sip of his drink.
"That's the spirit," he grinned. "We'll talk later. Go home."
Even from a distance you could pick out the cracks on his screen. He didn't call any attention to them at all but you could all too easily notice them. You supposed he was trying to brush it off. Eventually, they'd heal or he'd repair them.
"Alright, sir," you said, turning. "Goodnight."
You didn't wait for a response. Instead, you closed the office doors, granting him privacy. Honestly, you didn't want to hear anything else he had to say.
As you walked away, you could hear muffled music start to play. You ignored it, knowing he liked to unwind by listening to some tunes every now and then.
You grabbed your mug that sat on your desk. Idly, you looked down at it in revulsion. Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea to just throw the entire thing in the garbage at this point. You could easily find another.
Briskly, you approached the elevator and it instantly opened up. You stepped into it and pressed the button, sending it to the ground floor.
You had to make sense of this mess. You had no idea how to go forward. You weren't sure to trust anyone or anything. Making yourself vulnerable was out of the question. Yes, you could rely on Mo and Cassidy but you knew what they would say if you told them about what happened.
There was only one other being in Hell that could possibly point you in the right direction.
Your eyes turned down towards the corrupted coffee. A dark gleam shone in your eyes and a wicked grin cracked across your face.
