Chapter Text

Vox let out a massive yawn that echoes around the empty living room. It's only 10 PM but he already felt so tired from all of his paperwork. It is supposed to be a moment when he sees a mere glimpse of bed, he should immediately throw himself face flat onto it and snores the night away yet deep inside he's too busy giggling to himself, thinking about his own bold and brazen plan—a certain blue novelist came to his mind earlier. Surely he won't mind if Vox sneaks up on him while he's asleep, right? Not in a bad way, of course. Some nights are just colder than the others after all.

Vox tip toes comically towards Ike's bedroom, not wanting to wake the man up just yet. He makes sure he already showered, brushed his teeth, and wore the silkiest pajama he ever owned. Is he exaggerating? Perhaps. Vox only wanted to eliminate every single chance that would make him get kicked out of the bed. He tries to ignore that he himself is one of the bigger threats. Emphasize on the word "bigger".

And there he is, arriving at their (self-proclaimed) love chamber successfully without making any noises. Vox is slowly approaching the bed behind the glasses wall giddily, ready to shower Ike with his eternal burning love—

Wait, something is not right here.

Right now, Vox is standing in front of the queen-sized sky blue and white bed. That is not odd. Ike is sleeping right there, curling up on his left side with his oversized sweater and mismatched socks. Looks like his duvet is already long gone, assuming it’s because of the humid weather even though it’s currently 12 degree celsius—you can’t really mess with his viking blood. His pokemon plushies are being put at the top of the head stand, witnessing it in complete darkness is kind of scary because they look like they’re staring down at Ike menacingly every night. But it’s not weird at all, they always have been there. Everything seems in order.

Now what the fuck is Fulgur doing here?

You guessed it right, surprisingly Fulgur is right there too. He's laying on the most right side of the bed, leisurely hugging Ike from behind, exploring some dream land full of sheeps and rainbows at the moment—probably doing a ring of roses with a thousand angels in the midst of a vibrant flower field with an endless chocolate river just from Ike's mere existence there. What a wholesome sight.

Vox furrows his eyebrows so deeply he could form wrinkles. There are two wolves fighting inside of him right now, one wolf is wanting to forcefully untangle Ike from Fulgur and bringing the man into his own room, and the other one is joining them and making an absolute cuddle pile because truth to be told, they look incredibly comfy and he doesn’t want to miss out on that.

He decided on the latter.

Vox carefully slides in between the wall and the left side of the bed before slowly lowering himself to sit and lie down on the vacant side. The bouncy mattress drowns with his weight, then it creaks a little when he brings himself closer to Ike's sleeping figure.

The pillow is cold, yet his heart is warm. The novelist's sleeping face is so peaceful it could end a war. Vox couldn’t help but chuckle as he wiped off the trail of dry drool on the edge of his mouth. His day must be very tiring, Ike deserves a good deep rest. It has been a pretty chaotic week.

After admiring Ike's face for a while like a creep, the sight of a red synthetic arm on Ike's waist made his eyes twitch. He almost forgot that he's not alone here. He doesn't even know why Fulgur is here in the first place, nor does he want to know. Vox is struggling to not kick his brother right in the stomach.

To suppress that urge, he cautiously pulls Ike's waist towards him instead. Ike's body slowly moving across the sheets, his disheveled hair brushing on top of the pillow with smooth motion. Vox can see Ike frowns for a moment, but that doesn't stop him from enjoying his slumber. He let out a relieved sigh.

Vox shuts his eyes in bliss as he wraps his arm around Ike's shoulder. To the same dream land, he goes.

Until Fulgur's arm pulled Ike back to his direction again.

All of a sudden a pair of flaring yellow eyes are glowing in the dark. Vox lifts himself up with the help of his elbow to peek at the cyborg, ready to meet his brother's cheeky smile. Much to his surprise, he's still fast asleep. Vox snorts as a result—he needs to applaud him at some point, because even in his sleep his fighting spirit towards Vox is still unbreakable. Fulgur's stubbornness works overtime both in day to day consciousness and his subconscious. How fascinating.

Vox gives Fulgur's (supposedly) innocent figure a judging stare before he pulls Ike towards him, now the novelist is secure in his embrace once again. Sorry brother, but you need to share for this one.

However, Fulgur's instinct still won't lose.

"God fucking dammit!" Vox whispered harshly, this bedroom became a theater for his inner turmoil for a split second. He quickly checks on both of them, luckily his sharp hisses doesn't wake them at all. Even though he has the will of an unshakable warrior, Vox doesn't want to cause any ruckus.

He grits his teeth as he attempts to claim his cuddle toy once again, this time he’s tucking Ike under his chin so he will never get taken away. In the back of his mind, this situation is kind of hilarious since Ike didn't wake up or even blink at all despite being thrown back to back like a dodgeball. Now he's wondering what kind of dream he's having right now.

Vox clearly lets his guard down while he's daydreaming, suddenly Ike's back is glued to Fulgur's chest yet again. For the third time . He never thought that Fulgur is this persistent even while asleep just for Ike. Maybe it indeed runs in the family.

He clicks his tongue. With determination he wears on his sleeves, his arms are already gearing up for a counter attack, but suddenly he hears Ike groans under his breath while still closing his eyes—seems like he's slowly getting disturbed by this push and pull fiasco. By being a bigger man both literally and figuratively, he chose to give up in the end, letting Fulgur be the big spoon.

Vox pouts. But he still feels cold! Life is a like snow storm without Ike Eveland! Just take him to the ice grave and bury him six feet underground. This might as well be the last night he lives in this cruel, unapologetic world.

Worry not! Vox's last brain cell calls out to him. You could regain the greatest warmth and love from your dearest!

The demon blinks with so much hope in his eyes. Then pray tell, my friend, how does it work?

The realization hits him. In fact, Vox only needs to move closer to Ike instead of bringing Ike to his side. Why hasn't he thought of this beforehand? He could only blame his act of pettiness for this one. How foolish of him. Then again, like they always said, love makes you stupid.

In the end, Vox scoots closer more to the middle side where Ike is. This way, they both are in a win-win situation. He swings his arm onto Ike's lonely shoulder once again, this time there will be no disturbance anymore. He faintly smiles as he shuts his eyes, bathing in serenity together with his favorite person and also his beloved brother. He may also steal a nuzzle or two onto the novelist's forehead, who knows. There is no one to stop him. After all of that meaningless debacle, finally he can sleep soundly just like the rest of them.

Little did he know that sometime after midnight, Vox will face the consequences of his own action.

Notes:
