Work Text:
Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi was tired, not that that was unusual. Sipping his coffee he scanned over his latest case- a drug trafficking ring. Then he heard a knock at his door.
Looking up from his work, Naomasa stood up from his dining room table and opened the door. Looking around he tried to see who had knocked, but there was nobody. Until he looked down.
There, standing on his front step, was a child, probably only 14 at the oldest. He had dark hair, although Naomasa couldn't tell what color in the dim lighting, and his clothes were dark with blood and dirt. In a hoarse voice, the kid spoke.
"Naomasa? Is Toshinori here?" Naomasa blinked, confused.
"How do you know my name?" He asked calmly.
"You told me." True. "Now can you please call Toshi? We were supposed to meet up here." True.
Blinking in confusion, Naomasa opens the door for the kid. The kid in question walks inside and gingerly sits down at the kitchen table, across from where Nao was doing his work.
"Sorry about how dirty I am, it couldn't really be helped."
"Don't worry about it. I'll call Toshinori if you answer a few questions first." The kid thought for a moment before nodding.
"Ok, what's your name?"
"Deku." True.
"Age?"
"14 going on 20." True. Naomasa didn't even want to know what that meant.
"How do you know Toshinori's name?"
"He told me." True.
"Why are you here?"
"Me and Toshi got separated. This is one of our meetup points." True.
"Well then, you have been truthful this entire time. If you promise to elaborate after Toshinori gets here, then I'll call him."
"I promise." True.
Sighing, Nao grabs his phone and dial's Toshinori's number.
"Hello? Naomasa?" The familiar voice says.
"Hey, so, there's a kid at my house going by Deku-"
"Dekus there? I'll be there ASAP." Toshinori hangs up. Naomasa stands there dumbstruck for a solid five minutes, just holding his phone.
There's a soft thud from outside and soon Toshinori is barreling into the kitchen, his own clothes just as dirty as Deku's. His eyes search frantically, looking around the room before landing on the kid.
"Oh thank god you're alright," Toshinori says, hugging the boy. The boy hugs back. They stay like that for a while, just hugging, before they pull apart simultaneously.
"What happened after..?" Toshinori asks, trailing off and letting the question hang in the air.
"A lot. How long have you been here?" Deku questions.
"I've been here for about an hour, but I still have no idea what happened."
"Ok, I just got here. But for me it's been almost a month since you left. My strike team was preparing for a final attack when they attacked us in our sleep. By the time I was there half our forces were already gone. Add a lack of reinforcements to a lack of sleep and proper nutrition and I didn't stand a chance." Deku bowed his head, silent tears creeping out of his eyes. "I failed," he whispered.
"You may have failed then, but you are here now. Focus on the present. As Nana would say, you can't change the past, but you can change the future." Deku wiped his tears away, smiling a watery smile.
"You're right, thank you." Deku took a deep breath before continuing. "Any idea how this happened?"
"Well, it has to be a quirk, the question is what kind and who's."
"Definitely a time manipulation quirk, or possibly dimensional. As for who's, i think it has to be yours." Toshinori's eyes widened. Naomasa had no idea what the kid was mumbling about. "Think about it," Deku continued. "If it was my quirk, or one of the vestiges', You wouldn't have been sent back. But if it was your quirk, then I would have manifested the copy, explaining how both of us got here. If it was an outside factor, then why did it only manifest at the last possible second? Plus, it provides no tactical advantage to the enemy. Assuming it is a time quirk, then they would know that we would just change everything in our favor."
"You make a compelling argument, but how would the factor have been missed?" Toshinori asks, eyebrows scrunched together.
"Simple. You were tested for quirklessness almost forty years before I was. The technology and research has changed drastically in that time, not to mention how much tampering was done by his forces. The method they used to test you was probably faulty, and you never had a reason to get retested. Apart from that, it could have been a trauma manifestation, or a quirk with a death activation requirement. They probably tested you with the toe joint method, which we now know to be false information, instead of the DNA method. I was tested with both, and quite literally have no quirk factor, whereas yours was probably dorment." Deku mutters. Nao has absolutely no idea what the kid said, but Toshinori seems to understand, as he was nodding thoughtfully.
"I hate to interrupt, but Who is this kid Toshinori? How do you know him?" Both people whirled around in battle stances, but Naomasa noticed that Toshinori's wasn't his usual stance, one suited for a brawler who relied on strength, but a lower one, better for stealth and speed. Apart from that, Toshinori didn't twinge as he jostled his injury. "Wait, before you answer that, tell me your names." Toshinori looked confused for a moment before understanding dawned on him.
"Ah, a perfectly reasonable question, considering the circumstances. My name is Toshinori Yagi, also known as All Might." True. Naomasa nodded before turning to the kid.
"I'm Izuku, but I go by Deku most of the time." True. Naomasa sighed.
"Why are you both so bloody? What the heck happened?"
"That is what we are trying to figure out. The running theory is time travel, followed by dimension travel, and finally an extremely powerful illusion quirk." True. Naomasa fainted.
