Work Text:
After they finish their dramatic confessions and kissing, Bokuto opts to not celebrate with his team in favor of spending time with Akaashi. Something that Akaashi tried to fight at first, telling Bokuto that he just won a very big game and he should go celebrate with his team, that Akaashi would still be here when he was done.
But Bokuto wasn’t having it, “I just got you back. I see them all the time, I want to celebrate with you.”
So, of course, how could Akaashi resist, that? How could Akaashi resist him?
They make their way off of the court, holding hands and giving the occasional kiss (because they need to get in as many as they possibly can) as they walk over to Akaashi’s car. When they get over to it, Bokuto gets into the passenger’s side and Akaashi pops into the driver’s side, turning the car on and looking over to Bokuto, the feeling of love filling his chest. Seriously, how did he go so long trying to convince himself that he was over Bokuto when he’s so obviously not?
“I love you,” Akaashi mumbles, racing for Bokuto’s hand again and lacing together their fingers, “I never actually said it in there,” He was a little too distracted by Bokuto’s lips, “but I love you too, Koutorou.”
Bokuto lets go of Akaashi’s hand so that he can use both of his to grab Akaashi by the face, pressing another deep kiss to Akaashi’s face. Akaashi falls into it naturally, kissing back without any hesitation. His own hands move up to grab at Bokuto’s arms, rubbing his thumbs slowly on his forearms.
They break apart for air - the same air and, god, it’s been so long since they were breathing the same air like this - resting their foreheads together, “Y’know we’re going to be all over the media, right? It might be bad for your career,” Akaashi whispers, softly, looking into Bokuto’s eyes, “a gay man in Japan’s men volleyball isn’t exactly something the media likes to keep quiet.”
“Mhm,” Bokuto hums, there's the usual huge grin on his face, “I told you I don’t care about them. I know the kind of player I am no matter what the media thinks of me and I’ve never really been secretive about my sexuality anyway,” He shrugs, both of them bringing their hands down to but interlocking them. Their foreheads don’t part as Bokuto continues on, “besides, you’re something to be proud of.”
Akaashi just about cries right then and there because, “God, Bokuto. When did you get so good with words?”
“I’ve had some help from being around a certain someone,” Bokuto leans in for a kiss again, capturing Akaashi’s lips in his own. Akaashi savors everything about it, memorizing the taste and feel of Bokuto’s mouth just like he’s done a million of times before.
After probably way too long, they break apart again and Akaashi mentions that they should probably find their way back home and not sit in the car making out like a couple of teenagers. Bokuto reluctantly agrees, claiming that he doesn’t mind making out in the car and Akaashi laughs but starts driving anyway. His place isn’t that far, thankfully, so they make it there pretty quickly and Akaashi doesn’t even break any spreading laws.
Bokuto practically jumps out of the car before it’s even come to a full stop, excited to spend the day with Akaashi. Akaashi berates the man a little bit for being unsafe but finds it difficult to stay mad when he’s just as excited as Bokuto, even if he doesn’t show it on the outside as enthusiastically.
He does put the car in park soon after and take the keys from the ignition, shoving them in his pockets on the way out of the car. He meets with Bokuto outside of the car and they walk inside together, hand in hand, mumbling affections to each other.
“Is Kuroo here?” Bokuto asks, taking his shoes off, “I saw his car out there.”
Akaashi stops in his tracks of taking his own shoes off too, his eyes widen, “Fuck. I forgot about him. We both came here in my car- Fuck, I left him there,” He presses a hand to his forehead and sighs heavily, “Shit.”
Boktuo laughs, “You-” He laughs even harder, almost falling over and grabbing onto Akaashi for support, “You left him there! Hah! That’s hilarious, oh my god.”
“Shut up,” Akaashi mumbles, trying to hold back his own laughter because even he has to admit that it’s kinda funny, “It’s all your fault.”
Akaashi didn’t think the laughter could get harder but it does, “Aww, so in love with me you forgot about Kuroo.”
“Shut up,” Akaashi shoves him a little bit but nothing serious, “God, I’ve gotta call him.”
Bokuto waits for his laughter to die down a bit before speaking, “Whew, that was a good one. Yeah, yep, yeah you should call Kuroo.”
Akaashi finishes taking his shoes off and walks further into the house, plopping down right on the couch - Bokuto sits right next to him, cuddling up - and pulling his phone from his pocket. He opens his contacts and goes to Kuroo’s name, clicking the call button. It only rings once before going straight to voicemail.
Akaashi brings the phone back down from his ear and stares at the screen, “Yeah, he’s mad-” A text comes through after that, “Or not.”
He turns the phone toward Bokuto so that he can see the text from Kuroo better.
>>[Kuroo]: don’t worry abt me, I’m hanging out with Bo’s team, get your man ;)
Bokuto laughs, “God, is he implying what I think he’s implying?”
Akaashi nods, shutting his phone off and tossing it onto the coffee table, “It’s Kuroo, of course he is.”
Bokuto snorts laughter, “You’re right.”
“Well, as far as I’m concerned,” Akaashi turns to look at Bokuto, giving him a short kiss; a promise for what’s to come, “we have the place to ourself and,” Another kiss, this time a bit longer, more lasting, “we should make use of it.”
“Take Kuroo’s suggestion to heart?” Bokuto says after another kiss, which then also becomes before another kiss
“Mhm,” Akaashi hums into another, deeper kiss. There’s no interrupting this one, Akaashi climbs over Bokuto’s lap, straddling him. Bokuto wraps his arms around Akaashi’s back, their lips melding together, Akaashi wraps his own arms around Bokuto’s neck.
You know that saying, ”You never know what you’ve got until it’s gone” or, well, rather ”You never realize how much you miss something until it’s back”? Yeah, Akaashi feels like that fits his situation better.. That’s how Akaashi feels right now. He’s missed this so much, being able to kiss Bokuto without a care int he world. Focusing only on the taste of his mouth and the feel of his hands. He didn’t even realize how much he missed it until he was kissing Bokuto on that court, even if it was in front of everybody.
He spent so long convincing himself that he was okay with not being with Bokuto, with only being friends with him instead of trying out long distance, he didn’t think he could handle it. But now, after getting it back? He doesn’t think he can go a day without speaking to this man again. He doesn’t know what he was thinking. He doesn’t know how he could go weeks without speaking to Bokuto. Really, he doesn’t.
He knows he won’t always be able to kiss him like this, Bokuto still has a job to do and he’s not going to be in town for forever. All that means, though, is that Akaashi will take as much as he can get when he can get it, which is everything right now. He can have it all right now and he intends to do exactly that.
Akaashi bites at Bokuto’s top lip, grinding down on his crotch, both getting harder by the second. Bokuto moans, gripping tight onto Akaashi’s shirt, he could feel the nails in his back. He rubs down Akaashi’s back, moving back up to go underneath his shirt.
The feel of Bokuto’s hands on his bare skin have Akaashi making his own noises, right into Bokuto’s mouth. Bokuto moves to take Akaashi’s shirt all the way off, so he holds his arms up and lets Bokuto work it off.
“You too,” It’s barely intelligible from Akaashi, he only half breaks the kiss apart to say it but Bokuto understands him and moves his own arms in a way that makes it easy to bring his down and pull Bokuto’s shirt off. He blindly feels along his body, tracing every single muscle, memorizing what’s different from the last time they did this.
They pull apart, breathing hard, they both open their eyes, “I need you, Agaashi,” Bokuto hasn’t butchered his name in quite a while and it just makes Akaashi fall further in love.
“I need you too,” Akaashi shuts his eyes again, going back in for another kiss before moving down to his chin, then his neck. He spends some time on Bokuto’s pulse point, he tastes a little like sweat, he had still been in his uniform from his game, afterall. Bokuto’s own hands travel up and down Akaashi’s body, exploring the same way Akaashi is.
Akaashi doesn’t last long before he’s moving back up to Bokuto’s mouth, needing to kiss him. They kiss each other and touch for a while before breaking apart again, “let’s go to my room,” Akaashi mumbles.
Bokuto nods into another kiss, standing up and carrying Akaashi all the way there, something Akaashi with have to focus on later; he’ll never get over the fact that Bokuto can just pick him up with such ease but, to be honest, right now he’s focused on something else. Namely, his pants being way too tight.
Bokuto knows exactly where Akaashi’s room is, Akaashi has lived here with Kuroo for a while. Bokuto places Akaashi on his back, climbing on top of him, “God, Koutarou, please,” Akaashi thrusts his hips upward into Bokuto, “please, baby.”
Bokuto trails kisses all up and down Akaashi’s body, sucking on his left nipple which Bokuto knows is one of Akaashi’s sensitive spots. Akaashi’s hands find their way into Bokuto’s hair, tugging just the way Akaashi knows he likes.
“Okay, I can’t wait any longer,” Bokuto pulls off Akaashi’s nipple, climbing down to unbutton Akaashi’s jeans, getting rid of both those and his boxers with ease.
He makes his own shorts and boxers scarce pretty quickly after that, taking both off at the same time.
“Fuck,” Akaashi takes a deep breath seeing Bokuto’s cock, “you are…” Beautiful. Magnificent. Flawless. Perfect.
Bokuto smirks, climbing back up to kiss Akaashi again, their now bare cocks rubbing together. Both of them grind on each other, making noises that satisfy each other and cause their kiss to get rougher.
“Bokuto, c’mon,” Akaashi whines and, by god, he does not whine in his typical everyday life. But it’s just impossible to not.
Bokuto pulls off of the kiss and they both open their eyes, locking into eachother for a moment. Then, Bokuto presses a quick kiss to the tip of his nose and smiles, making his way back down in between Akaashi’s legs. He grabs a hold of Akaashi’s cock, rubbing a thumb over teh tip spreading about the precum. It makes Akaashi twitch. He gives a few strokes while Akaashi reaches over to his drawer, opening it and reaching inside blindly for the lube. He doesn’t have any condoms but neither of them have fucked anybody else since they broke up so Akaashi isn’t really all that worried about it and he has a feeling that Bokuto isn’t either.
He holds it out to Bokuto who accepts eagerly, quickly coating his fingers in it and tossing it off to the side, somewhere on the bed, “You ready?”
“Mhm,” Akaashi spreads his legs a bit to give Bokuto more room and when he feels the first finger go in, it feels like absolute heaven.
It has been way too long since he’s had somebody else’s fingers inside of him and he can’t help the way he pushes forward, forcing Bokuto’s finger to go deeper inside. It doesn’t take long for Bokuto to add a second finger, working open the hole and then, for fuck’s sake, rubbing against his prostate.
“Koutarou,” Akaashi whines, and there it is again. That whine. “Again, do that again.”
Bokuto does. He does it again and again and again until, “Okay I am not going to last much longer,” Akaashi admits, breathless.
“Are you ready?”
Akaashi nods, he needs this. It’s been too long. He needs Bokuto. Normally, it’s Akaashi who’s the one between Bokuto’s leg, working him open. Sure, Bokuto’s had his fair share of topping, the liked to switch it up quite a bit when they were together but, god, there wasn’t even any talk this time. Both of them just knew exactly what the other needed.
Bokuto reaches back for the lube, lathering up his cock before lining it up with Akaashi. Akaashi pushes a bit so that Bokuto is actually touching him and that’s all it takes for Bokuto to push all the way in.
Akaashi grabs at Bokuto’s back, his nails scratching into the skin but Bokuto is unaffected. He keep a steady rhythm, hitting Akaashi just perfect. Just the way he likes; Clearly, it’s just like riding a bike. Bokuto hasn’t forgotten.
“That’s perfect.”
“I know,” Bokuto replies easily.
Everything after that all happens pretty quickly. It’s been so long since either of them have had sex that they’re both finishing like complete messes within less than a minute. Bokuto goes first, filling Akaashi and all he does is revel in it. He likes it.
Afterward, Bokuto reaches for Akaashi’s cock, it only takes a few strokes for the man to come undone, flooding all over Bokuto’s hand. Without a care, he wipes it on his leg and falls down in the bed right next to Akaashi.
Both of them are breathless, staring at each other in the post-orgasm glow, “We’re a mess now,” Bokuto giggles.
“Mhm,” Akaashi smiles fondly, scooting closer to Bokuto, sliding into his arms and resting his head against his shoulder right after giving a sweet kiss to Bokuto.
“We should shower.”
Akaashi chuckles, “When did you become the voice of reason? That’s my job.”
Bokuto wraps his arm around Akaashi, rubbing along his arm, “Well, I just played a very exhausting game and then had sex so, y’know, I’m a little exhausted and very disgusting right now.”
Akaashi laughs, pushing off of Bokuto and sitting up. He’s a little sore but he expected that to happen; he hasn’t had sex in a while. Way too long for his liking. He gets up from the bed, “I’ll go run the shower and let it get hot.”
Bokuto jumps up and runs to the side of the bed where Akaashi is and grabs his wrists, moving in close, “No, you should rest. I’ll go run the shower.”
Akaashi shakes his head, “As sweet as that is, it’s alright,” He gives Bokuto a kiss, “you did just finish an exhausting game, like you said.”
“It’s okay, I-”
Akaashi interrupts him, “how about you strip the bed while I run the shower? That way you can help.”
“Okay,” Bokuto grins, immediately going to pull the blankets and sheets off. Akaashi walks toward the hallway to get to the bathroom, not bothering to put any clothes on because he’s about to take htem off to shower anyway. Besides, it’s just him and Bokuto in the house right now.
He turns the shower on, a little hotter than warm, and walks back to the hallway so that he can grab a towel for Bokuto, his own already hanging up in the bathroom. Not very long afterward, Bokuto joins him just a moment later, “I put all the bedding in an empty laundry basket in your room.”
“Mkay,” Akaashi spins around to grab at Bokuto’s waist, looking up into his eyes before shutting his own and giving him a long kiss. Bokuto melts into it, every kiss like the first one all over again.
“I don’t think I can do a second round, babe, I’m tired,” Bokuto whispers into Akaashi’s lips before reconnecting
Akaashi shakes his head, just a little. Not wanting to break the kiss, “That’s okay,” He just needs to kiss him. He needs to kiss him as much as he can. He misses kissing him.
But, alas, they need to shower and shower they do. They break their kiss apart, get all nice and clean, put some shorts on each, then work together to remake the bed with clean sheets. As soon as all of that is said and done, they lay down and cuddle; Bokuto passes out the second his head hits the pillow and Akaashi follows soon after him.
It may be a little bit cheesy but he dreams about Bokuto.
*
When it comes time for Bokuto to leave again, their goodbye is full of promises. Promises to talk every single day and to see eachother as often as their careers allow. It’s filled with lumps in Akaashi’s throat and tears threatening to fall from his eyes because he just got Bokuto back, damnit.
So, he throws himself into work instead. A distraction at best.
It’s safe to say that Akaashi is in a mood the first day Bokuto is gone and people seem to notice. Kuroo, specifically. It’s easy for him to notice, being his roommate and all, “Dude, I know your boyfriend is gone but you’re acting like he’s dead.”
Akaashi grunts non-committedly, focused on his work. Except, not actually focused on his work, just pretending to be focused on his work because Kuroo makes it really hard to focus on his work and the thoughts of Bokuto make it even harder for him to focus on his work.
“Dude, he’s not dead,” Kuroo walks all the way into the room and comes into Akaashi’s view, crossing his arms, “in fact, he’s not even that far. You can drive to see him if you really want to.”
“He’s busy working, I don’t want to distract him.”
Kuroo sighs, “Fine, can you at least not work 24/7?”
“Whatever,” Akaashi says, typing on his computer before his phone starts to ring. He gets excited for half a second, thinking it’s Bokuto, until hea actually looks at the phone and realizes that it’s just his boss, “can you go? I have to take this.”
Kuroo doesn’t say anything, clearly not wanting to further Akaashi’s bad mood. Instead, he just makes his way out of the room and away from Akaashi, allowing him the privacy of answering a phone call.
“Hello, Akaashi Keiji.”
”Hey Akaashi, I, um,” His boss starts, her voice is steady but she seems unsure about what she’s about to say, ”I should just say this straight up, honestly. So, we’ve figured out our new cover page for this week’s magazine and I figured I’d give you the decency of letting you know.”
Akaashi sighs, heh knows he should’ve been expecting this but his own magazine? Really? “My boyfriend and I?”
”Yes,” She confirms, ”if you’re against being on the cover, I can try to sort things out but if we don’t run this story, other people will.” Well, yeah, Akaashi knows that. He’s not dumb, ”I figured I’d give you the chance to have a say in what the article about you and Bokuto says.”
“A say?”
”Yeah. I wanted to ask you to write it.”
“I’m just an editor, though.”
”I know,” She nods into the phone, Akaashi can hear it, ”and if you don’t want to write, I’d like you to be the editor. That way you can remove anything that’s either incorrect or just simply something you don’t want in there.”
“Wow,” Akaashi breathes out, surprised. Writing an article is an honor, even if it is one about him. Also, it’s nice to know tha this boss respects him enough to let him know about all of this. Still, he thinks it’ll be weird to write about himself, “I think I’ll just stick to editing. It’d be too weird to write about myself.”
”I get that,” Akaashi can hear the smile in her voice, ”I’ll let the writers know and it’ll get sent over to you for editing. Again, you are free to remove absolutely anything that feels too personal and you can also add whatever you see fit.”
“Thanks,” Akaashi says. He really is trying to be in a decent mood for this phone call but he’s just not. He misses Bokuto already.
So, he calls him. Factimes him, actually. He props his phone up on his pencil holder and waits for an answer, his mouth immediately turning into a smile the moment he sees Bokuto moving around on his screen, “Hey!” He moves to set his own phone down, “I’m about to head to practice but I’ve got like 5 minutes.”
“That’s all I need,” Akaashi says softly, just staring at his boyfriend, “I miss you.”
“I miss you too,” Bokuto frowns, “I miss you a lot, Keiji.”
Akaashi takes a deep breath; funnily enough, it isn’t often that Akaashi hears his given name from Bokuto, just like it isn’t often for Akaashi to say Bokuto’s given name. In fact, he’s been hearing his given name from Bokuto a lot more lately and he must say, he really enjoys it, “I miss you too, Koutorou.”
Bokuto smiles, “What’re you doing?”
“Work,” Akaashi answers bluntly, “in fact, you won’t believe what I was just assigned?”
“Hm?”
Akaashi laughs a little, soft, “I was assigned to an article about us.”
“Our kiss?”
“Yep,” Akaashi confirms, “my boss gave me the choice to write it but I chose to stick to editing. Figured it’d be weird to write gossip about myself and my boyfriend.”
Bokuto laughs, “Yeah, I can see that.”
The rest of the phone call is spent mostly in silence. The two of them just looking at each other, it’s nice but Akaashi really wishes he could kiss him or hug him or hold his hand.
Being away from him doesn’t get much easier the next day either but he’s not in as much of a mood. The article comes to him quickly that day and he reads it over way more than he would any other article he gets sent. This one is about him, after all.
He edits it a lot more thoroughly than others, too. He spends all day on it, perfecting it, until he sends it back; now it’s in the hands of others. Thankfull, he didn’t have to remove too much, a couple of sentences that pried a bit too much got vetoed and Akaashi added replacements for those but, overall, the article was pretty good as it was.
It gets released a few days later.
Japan Athlete Bokuto Koutarou Kisses a Man After Big Win
The photo on the cover is angled at Bokuto and Akaashi; Bokuto’s face is clearly seen but you can only make out a little bit of Akaashi’s, it’s mostly the back of his head

Japan Athlete Bokuto Koutarou Kisses a Man After Big Win Pg. 7
Last week, the MSBY Black Jackals went against the Schweidan Adlers and came out the winner. This was both shocking and expected, depending on who you ask. However, Bokuto Koutarou - a wing spiker on the MSBY Blakc Jackals - running over to kiss a man after his match is something nobody was expecting at all.
However, that’s not exactly how it happened. The kiss didn’t come until a long, seemingly heated conversation. Unfortunately, the noise around made it near impossible to hear so all we can go off of is their faces. It seemed like both men were sad at some point but, as seen, that’s not something that lasted for long because the two embraced eachother in a kiss.
The pair of men got off of the court quickly but they left behind Bokuto’s teammates. When asking one teammate about what he knew, he brightened up, “Of course! I wasn’t expecting that, though,” He spoke through laughter, “[Bokuto] sure does have a way to make the expected unexpected!”
Upon further interviewing, some sources say that the man that Bokuto Koutarou was a man named Akaashi Keiji, an editor for the Weekly Shounen Vai. Yep, that’s right: He works for this magazine. Other close sources say that Bokuto and Akaashi have known each other since high school. Akaashi even used to be Bokuto’s setter (maybe we should thank him for the amazing athlete we know and love today).
Well, that’s it folks.
**Editors note: This is Akaashi Keiji, I’ve been approved to add a note at the end here and say that I am in love with this man. So, if anybody has a problem with that, you can mind your own business.
