Work Text:

Contact Lens and Tray were sitting on the grass together, happily chatting away underneath the bright sun.

“There was this thing going on with the kids where a bunch of girls would ask their boyfriends if they would love them as a worm.” Tray explained with a smile.

Contact Lens snickered, hands holding his ankles. “A worm?” He raised a brow.

She giggled, snorting. “Yeah! It was pretty funny. Nobody really took it seriously.”

“Hahah. That is pretty silly.”

“Hehe. Yeah.”

There was a pause, both smiling in comfortable silence. Contact Lens looked up at Tray after a moment. “I'd still love you if you were a worm.”

She snickered shyly. “You..”

The two got their attention taken away as somebody walked by the two. It was Bassy. She had a deadpan expression on her face, and didn't seem to pay any mind to the duo.

“Hi, Bassy!” Contact Lens happily greeted, waving.

Bassy looked at them. A modest smile appeared on her face. “Oh. Hi, Contact Lens.”

“What're you up to?” Tray asked, leaning back on her hands.

“I dunno.” She replied, a deadpan expression on her face again.

“Oh. Well, since you're here, you think you can help Contact Lens and I?”

“Oh. Sure.”

“Thanks!” She beamed. “Come sit with us.” She invited, patting the grass beside her.

Bassy obeyed without a word, plopping her vertical frame next to her. “What do you need help with?” She crossed her legs.

“Tray and I are trying to figure out what couple things to do.” Contact Lens explained.

“..Couple things?”

“Yeah! We're.. like,” Tray chuckled, embarrassed. “A thing now, so.. we want to try doing things human couples do.”

“Oh. I see.” Bassy said quickly.

“Yeah. Do you have any ideas?” Contact Lens asked.

The instrument hummed softly, looking down at the grass. “..Dancing..?” She suggested, making eye contact with the pair.

“Dancing?” Tray repeated. “Oh! Like that thing kids talk about when they go to prom?”

“Uhhh. I don't know what that is.”

“I know dancing.” Contact Lens commented, a slight bit of excitement to his tone. “My human went to a few parties before. I got to see a lot of different dances.”

Tray gasped excitedly. “You think you could teach me?!”

“Yeah! All we need is some music now.”

“Really? Why?”

Contact Lens shrugged. “It was always playing at the parties.”

Bassy’s brows were raised, and she had a grin on her face. “..I can play some music.”

“Really?” Contact Lens similarly beamed.

“Yeah. I can play a few songs Jess was practicing. I remember them.”

“Thanks, Bassy!” Tray excitedly stood up. Contact Lens did the same. The two stared at each other for a second. Tray broke into a small laughter. “So.. how do we do this?”

As the two awkwardly started figuring it out, Bassy began playing with her own strings, a soft melody wafting through the air.

Contact took her left hand with his right. “Okay, so.. my human would take your hand.. then.. put my hand on your waist.” He stretched his small arm to reach her waist.

“And.. what do I do?” Tray curiously asked, staring at her taken hand.

“You put your other hand on my shoulder.”

She followed instruction, putting her hand on his shoulder. Due to his small stature, though, it was pretty awkward. She felt a bit embarrassed. She giggled unconfidently. “Okay..”

“Then they would spin slowly in a circle,” Contact Lens began shuffling his feet, to which Tray did her best to mimic. “Like this.”

After a few moments of uncoordinated movements, the two synced up. They spun in place, swaying their bodies the way humans did.

Tray couldn't help but shyly smile. This dance felt so delicate. She liked the feeling of his hand holding hers. She also liked the feeling of his hand holding her waist. And she also liked the feeling of holding his shoulder.

Contact Lens seemed unfazed of flusteredness; he happily danced with her without a thought in his mind. He was just happy to be spending time with her.

After a minute of dancing in place to Bassy’s soft tune, Tray muttered, “..What kind of parties had dances like this?”

“Weddings.” He replied, staring down at their synced up feet.

“Weddings?” She repeated, smiling out of instinct. “What's that?”

“It's where two humans would get married to one another.”

“Marry..?” There was a pause. “..I think I've heard a few kids say that word at school.”

“Yeah. It's basically when two humans swear to never leave each other’s side.”

Tray smiled softly, her brows lowering. “Aw.. that's sweet.”

Swear to never leave each other's sides..

“Wh-What if we got married..?” She blurted obliviously.

The duo made eye contact. Contact Lens beamed. “I'd love to.”

Tray felt her heart pounding. She felt stunned for words, for whatever reason. She looked away. “Heh..”

After another moment, Contact Lens made a subtle shift in the placement of his hand on her waist. “After a while.. my human would do..” He purposefully bent the back of her leg so that she would fall backwards. Her eyes widened, but he held onto her, keeping her from falling. When she looked at him, his face was strained, struggling. “..This..!”

He grunted and groaned. Tray was still in his arms. He was carrying her. Kind of. One of her sets of toes brushed against the floor, and her hand was still cradled around his shoulder for support. But other than that, he was holding her up all on his own. Tray smiled. This felt.. nice.

The moment didn't last long, as the weight of Tray compared to his body size was too much. Tray let out a soft yelp as she fell on her back. Contact Lens crashed against her front, rolling in place for half a second before falling still.

The pair lay still for a moment, before bursting into a bunch of flustered and happy giggles and soft laughter.

“S-Sorry, for dropping you, Tray.” The small man stammered, a flushed smile on his face.

“No, no, it's okay! That was really fun.. I liked being held by you.” She admitted, staring at him in the eyes, her cheek somewhat covering her eye from how big she was smiling.

He chuckled. “I liked holding you.”

She softly sighed. “..That was fun. I like dancing.”

“Yeah.” He stood up, getting off of her. He helped her up. “My human always had fun dancing at parties.”

She giggled. “I-I can see why..!”

Bassy was still plucking away at her strings, but she watched the couple with a small smile on her face. The two walked towards her, and she stared at the both of them back. The duo were holding hands. “You guys seemed like you had fun.” She commented, still playing her melody.

Tray giggled again. “We did.”

“Thanks for the music, Bassy.” Contact Lens gave a thumbs up.

“Mhm.” She kept on playing her music.

A minute passed of silence.

“...”

“...”

“...”

“Uh-, Bassy-” Tray laughed. “You know you can stop playing now, right?”

“Ah- Oh. Right.”
