Work Text:
Tray snickered, feeling embarrassed. Contact Lens was busy carving away at the wall, below the shift counter. He had a lackadaisical smile on his face as he drew out the bottom half of the heart he was carving.
“What?” He asked, looking over at Tray, noticing her amused giggling.
“It just-..” She laughed. “It's just so cheesy, Contact Lens.”
“That's the point.” His tone was genuine. He returned to finishing the heart.
“Yeahh, but that's what makes it so embarrassing..!” She chuckled.
Contact Lens set down the carving stick, moving out of the way to let Tray see the finished work. In the center of the crudely carved heart was the phrase: “CL x TRAY”.
She couldn't help but flush at how embarrassing it felt to see it. Anyone who came to mark a shift would notice the piece of art. It was embarrassing, but she loved it.
“What do you think?” He asked, looking at his own work with a lighthearted smile.
Before Tray could respond, Subway Seat had walked over, looking between the two.
“Hi, guys.”
“Hi, Subway.” Contact Lens greeted positively.
Tray instinctively let out an embarrassed chuckle. “Hey.” She waved lightly.
Subway Seat went to pick up the carving stick, but paused. “Ooh, what's this?” He curiously scooched himself next to Contact Lens’ art.
“I made it.” Contact Lens was quick to announce.
“C-L-X Tray.” He read out. “What's that mean?” He looked at the smaller man.
“It's a thing I've seen couples do in movies, where they write the names of each other on a tree.” He explained.
“Ohhhh, you guys are a couple?” He grinned, surprised.
Tray giggled. “Yeah.” She admitted.
“Aw, cool! Do you guys do other human couple things?”
“We're actually trying to figure out other things to do together, hahah.”
Subway Seat curled his lip and looked up in thought. “Hmmm, well,” He looked at the two again. “I don't know that much about human couples, but one time I saw a human sitting in the lap of another human.”
“Really?”
“Yeah! They seemed pretty comfortable together. I think the lady even fell asleep.”
“Hey, why don't we try that?” Contact Lens excitedly suggested.
“Yeah, that'd be fun!” Tray agreed.
Subway Seat beamed. “You guys can sit on top of me if you want.”
“Okay!”
“Sure!”
Before the two got on, though, Tray paused. “Wait, which one of the humans was sitting in the other’s lap?”
“Well, the girl was sitting in the guy’s lap.”
“Well, that won't work.” Tray frowned. “Contact Lens is too small.”
“That's okay.” Contact Lens held her hand. “We can do it the other way around.”
She blinked. “Oh.” She positively beamed. “Okay!”
The two got on top of Subway Seat, Tray leaning back against the seat. Contact Lens sat in her lap.
“So.. like this, Subway?” Tray asked for confirmation.
Subway managed to look up at them. “Close. Tray, you've gotta wrap your arms around Contact Lens.”
She obeyed, wrapping Contact Lens like a plushie. “Like this?”
“Yep!” He affirmed with a smile.
“This feels nice.” Contact Lens commented.
Tray looked down at him in her arms. She felt like she was cradling a baby. A soft, mushy feeling infected her heart. “Yeah.. it does.” She muttered loudly.
He looked up at her, an oblivious, carefree smile on his face. Then he faced forwards again. Her eyes drooped, and she began leaning into him.
“You're a really good hugger, Tray.” Contact Lens whispered.
Tray hummed, smiling from the compliment. “You're.. cute..” She murmured.
It didn't take long for the two to fall asleep on top of Subway Seat. Subway Seat sat still, smiling and looking up at the sun as the two had their moment. Only when he heard the soft sounds of snoring did he become conscious that they were asleep. As silently and gently as he could, he marked down the shift.
Afterwards, he was content with leaving them be. He relaxed by the pool, staring up at the sky, and occasionally the couple atop him.
He was glad to help them in their quest of love.
