Chapter 1: Stars

Chapter Text

Shirmpo sat on his bed, head in his hands, thinking over how the last two weeks have been the worst ever.

It was a run, right? A normal run, Shelly had accidentally activated twisted Rodgers capsule.

Shrimpo saved her.

Obviously.

He was a huge jerk, but he wasn't just gonna stand around and let someone die.

He managed to pull her out of the way and the two hid behind a bookshelf until the twisted returned back into the capsule, and Shelly decided to stick with him the rest of the run after showering him in thanks.

And she didn't stop there, she kept talking to him the next day and the next day. No matter how many times he said he hated her, or her stupid dinosaur facts, or just plain yelling at her, she continued to bug him.

Shrimpo didn't know why he put up with it, or why she wanted to talk to him. But he knew things were going all wrong when she had gotten permission to use the planetarium in Astro's floor and invited him.

“Y'know.” Shelly speaks up, the two were sitting down, looking up and watching the ‘stars’ “I don't think you hate everything like you say you do.”

“Come again?” Shrimpo looks over at her.

“I don't think you hate everything like you say you do.” She repeats. Shrimpo sighs in annoyance, it was rhetorical.

“Really?” He grumbles.

“Really!” She replies.

“And why is that?” He sighs once more.

“Because you don't act like you do. You clearly enjoy some stuff and some people.” Shelly says.

Shrimpo scoffs. “No I don't.”

“Yeah, you do! You like to work out, I've seen you do it before, you don't have to, but you do! And you're close friends with Finn and Goob, you say you hate them, but you hang out with them a lot. If you actually hated them, you wouldn't be seen around them all the time.” Shelly pauses.

Shrimpo doesn't look at her, his hands clenched into fists. She was reading him like a book, but he'd never let her know she was right.

“And then there's me.” She continues. “You saved me once, and then I kept bothering you. And you'd shout at me and tell me you hated me. But even though I kept bothering you, you never actually pushed me away. You even hang out with me when you don't have to. I asked if you wanted to come to the planetarium, and you just led the way. No speaking necessary.”

Shrimpo turns away, his heart speeds up. Was this normal? Maybe he was just sick, he hated being sick.

“Wouldn't it be nice if we could see real stars? Not just pictures?” Shelly asks as she continues to look up.

“Uhh…” Shrimpo hesitates. “Yeah…”
