THE THEOMACHIST
Indeed, we put bits into the horses' mouths so that they may obey us.

For thou [art] my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me.
[Psalms 31:3]
PROLOGUE
[A letter with a nail driven through where the signature would be]
The snow is melting, Excellencies.
I won't send more letters. I won't read them either. The next time we meet, I will accept your surrender in exchange for the execution of all officers of the Inquisition except for two, the first to open the city gates.
I pray the weather improves. I intend to see your graves dug before spring.
Ever yours, for the last time,
Alexander Block,
Commander of the Fourth Division
