Work Text:

Sophie sat by Calla’s Panakes tree, leaning against the strong trunk. She closed her eyes and focused on the music as the world around her slowly dissolved into nothing. She exhaled her worries away.

The Neverseens plans?

Exhale.

The pressure of being the moonlark?

Exhale.

Lady Gisela’s strange motivations?

Exhale.

The smell of the blossoms filled her lungs with each breath, reminding her of Calla’s strong sacrifice. If Calla could be strong, so could Sophie. TV Girl always seemed to calm her down. She was listening to “Birds Don’t Sing” by TV Girl when she heard a familiar voice.

“Foster?”

Keefe.

She opened her eyes to see a pair of ice blue irises staring back. Sophie paused her music and removed her wired earbuds. A small smile crept up on her lips as she locked eyes with her boyfriend.

“Hey, I didn't realize you came over to visit,” She said, patting the spot at the base of the tree to her left. Keefe happily sat beside her and took a deep breath.

“I understand why you come here so much,” Keefe observed, “It’s like the world stops moving, and everything else goes quiet for a while.”

“Yeah,” Sophie agreed, leaning her head on his shoulder.

“Isn’t that human music?” He asked, pointing to her iPod.

Sophie nodded and offered him the other earbud. The song resumed from where she had paused it.

“Wow…” Keefe trailed off, lost to the melodies.

“You know, I never realized how quiet The Lost Cities were until I had my adventures in Humanland,” He remarked, “I used to wonder what you listened to,”

“Do you like it?” she asked,

“I love it,” He said, “Maybe as much as I love you,”

“I love you too,” She replied, a warm blush coloured her cheeks.

They sat together under Calla’s tree without a worry in the world. The world did go quiet, just for everyone except them.
