Chapter Text
"He who is loved beyond mortal bounds shall bear the bloom of devotion, and with each petal, he shall perish. To be adored is to be undone."
The words were carved into the oldest stone in the temple, inked in gold on stones no one dared to read aloud.
Kim Namjoon was not meant to survive love.
The gods have always been cruel.
They bless, but with a steady hand upon the knife’s hilt. They grant love, but never without consequence. Namjoon was their latest amusement—adored beyond measure, worshiped in whispers and in touch, in gazes held too long.
So they gave him a gift.
And like all gifts from the gods, it was a curse in disguise.

The temple doors stood open, welcoming the early morning sun as it bathed the marble floors in gold. Incense curled lazily into the air, the scent of myrrh and sandalwood clinging to the stone pillars. It was a sacred space, a place of worship, where mortals came to leave offerings—prayers whispered into the still air, gifts laid at the altar in hopes that the gods might listen.
And yet, in the quiet hours of dawn, it was not the gods who tended to the temple.
Kim Namjoon moved through the vast hall with practiced ease, sweeping fallen petals from the floor, adjusting the offerings so they wouldn’t spill. The temple belonged to the gods, but its care had fallen to him—hands worn from labor, robes dusted with ash from the incense burners.
Some called him blessed. Others pitied him.
He was neither.
He had no divine favor, no power of his own. He was simply here, bound to the temple like the ivy that curled around its pillars. A caretaker, a presence that the gods found amusing.
But the six figures watching him from the temple steps did not see him as something so insignificant.
Seokjin leaned against a pillar, arms crossed, watching Namjoon fuss over a tray of fruit left as an offering. His lips quirked upward, a private sort of smile. "You know the gods don’t actually eat these, right?"
Namjoon didn’t look up. "Doesn’t mean they should rot on the altar."
Yoongi, sprawled lazily on the stone railing, hummed in amusement. "You take better care of this place than the gods ever did."
Hoseok let out a quiet laugh, stretching his arms above his head. "He takes better care of everything."
They weren’t wrong.
Namjoon spent his days tending to the temple, but he also walked the village roads, checked on the elders, made sure the children had enough to eat. He did not expect prayers in return, nor did he demand offerings.
He simply existed—caring, tending, nurturing.
Jimin, perched on the steps, let his gaze linger on Namjoon’s hands, calloused but careful as he adjusted the flickering oil lamps. "You could let us help, you know," he said softly.
Namjoon finally looked up, raising a brow. "And have you lot mess up the offerings? I’d rather take my chances alone."
Taehyung gasped, clutching his chest as if wounded. "How dare you. I have impeccable taste in arrangement."
Jungkook, who had been silent until now, tilted his head, watching Namjoon as if trying to weave the moment into something permanent. His fingers twitched at his sides, aching to reach for him.
They had been made for the gods—crafted to serve, to entertain, to worship.
But they had fallen in love with a mortal instead.
And the gods were watching.
But Namjoon didn’t care for divine eyes, not when he was surrounded by hands warmer than the sun and voices softer than the hymns sung in the temple halls.
Seokjin was the first to pull him in. He always was. With a knowing smile, he stepped forward and cupped Namjoon’s face in his hands, his thumbs tracing over the high points of his cheeks. “You work too hard,” he murmured, tilting Namjoon’s chin up just enough to press a kiss to the space between his brows.
“I don’t—” Namjoon started, but the words dissolved as Yoongi appeared at his side, looping an arm around his waist and resting his chin on Namjoon’s shoulder.
“Shh,” Yoongi hummed. “No arguing.”
A second later, Hoseok spun him away from the altar and straight into his arms, grinning as he lifted Namjoon off the ground with little effort. Namjoon let out a startled laugh, hands instinctively gripping Hoseok’s shoulders.
“There he is,” Hoseok grinned, setting him back down gently but keeping his hands firm on Namjoon’s waist. “That’s the sound I wanted to hear.”
Before Namjoon could recover, Jimin was at his side, slipping his hands into Namjoon’s own. He lifted one of Namjoon’s palms to his lips, pressing a featherlight kiss against it before murmuring, “Let us take care of you today.”
Taehyung hummed in agreement, appearing at Namjoon’s other side, his arms winding around Namjoon’s shoulders from behind. “We’ll carry you if we have to,” he said, lips brushing against the shell of Namjoon’s ear. “Won’t we, Jungkook?”
Jungkook, who had been watching them with soft, reverent eyes, finally stepped forward. He didn’t say anything, just took Namjoon’s other hand and laced their fingers together, thumb brushing against Namjoon’s knuckles.
Namjoon sighed, exasperated but fond. “You’re all ridiculous.”
Seokjin smirked. “And you love us for it.”
Namjoon couldn’t argue with that.
They led him away from the altar, away from the marble floors dusted with offerings, away from the watchful gaze of the gods.
Back to their home, nestled just beyond the temple grounds—a space that had become theirs, filled with laughter and warmth, a place untouched by divinity but steeped in something far more sacred.
Jungkook was the first to pull Namjoon down onto the cushions scattered across the floor, guiding him until he was lying back against Jungkook’s chest. Namjoon barely had a second to breathe before Jimin curled into his side, pressing soft kisses along his jawline, while Taehyung’s fingers danced along his arm, tracing lazy patterns against his skin.
Hoseok stretched out beside them, reaching up to tuck a stray strand of hair behind Namjoon’s ear. “I think you need a nap.”
“I don’t—” Namjoon started, but Yoongi was already shifting, tugging him down until his head was pillowed against his lap.
“Shh,” Yoongi murmured again, running his fingers through Namjoon’s hair. “No arguing, remember?”
Seokjin was the last to join, draping a blanket over all of them and pressing one final kiss to Namjoon’s forehead. “Rest, love.”
Namjoon tried to fight it. He always did. But surrounded by warmth, by steady heartbeats, by the quiet, whispered reassurances of the people who loved him, he found himself sinking into it.
Into them.
Into love.

Morning came slow, golden.
Namjoon woke to the feeling of something soft against his cheek—Taehyung, still half-asleep, nosing at him in quiet affection. A lazy hum vibrated against Namjoon’s skin, deep and content, before Taehyung pressed a kiss to his jaw and stretched, his limbs tangling with Namjoon’s before he finally rolled away.
“Sleep well?” Taehyung murmured, voice thick with sleep.
Namjoon smiled, drowsy but content. “Yeah.”
He stayed like that for a moment, soaking in the warmth, before he shifted carefully, trying not to wake the others.
Jungkook was still wrapped around his waist, face tucked against Namjoon’s ribs. Jimin had curled up beside them sometime in the night, his fingers still loosely curled around Namjoon’s wrist. From the other side of the room, Yoongi stirred slightly, drawn from sleep by Namjoon’s movement, but didn’t wake fully. Hoseok was still deep in slumber, hair splayed across Seokjin’s shoulder, the elder’s arm slung loosely over his waist.
Namjoon let out a quiet breath.
This was his life.
Sometimes, it still didn’t feel real.
They had always been otherworldly —untouchable, their existence so deeply intertwined with the gods that he had once believed himself nothing more than a passing shadow in their orbit. A mortal thing, temporary. Fleeting.
But they had loved him, chosen him, and now—now, he couldn’t remember what his life had been before them.
He carefully slipped free from Jungkook’s hold and sat up, stretching. A faint pressure curled in his throat, dry and lingering, but he paid it no mind. Just morning weariness, nothing more.
Rising to his feet, he padded quietly out of the room.
The temple courtyard was quiet in the early hours, bathed in soft light. The stone was cool beneath Namjoon’s bare feet as he stepped outside, breathing in the crisp air.
It was a peaceful morning, the kind that made him want to linger, to close his eyes and just be . He moved toward the shrine, fingers brushing absently over the stone as he passed, a habitual reverence in his touch.
He had been tending to this place for years, long before he had ever known what it meant to be loved like this. It had always been his home.
His fingers brushed over the offering bowl, empty now, save for a single petal that must have drifted in overnight.
Namjoon picked it up absentmindedly, rubbing the delicate thing between his fingers.
A strange feeling washed over him.
Familiar, but not quite.
Something in his chest tightened—not painful, but enough to make him pause.
He exhaled slowly and let the petal slip from his fingers.
It wasn’t anything to worry about.
The petal drifted to the ground, forgotten as Namjoon turned toward the temple’s entrance.
Soft footsteps echoed against the stone, and he barely had time to react before warm arms wrapped around his waist from behind.
“You always wake up first,” Hoseok murmured against his shoulder, voice still sleep-soft. He nuzzled into the curve of Namjoon’s neck, pressing a lingering kiss there before sighing. “I should get up early with you.”
Namjoon chuckled, leaning back into the warmth of him. “You? Wake up early?”
“Mm.” Hoseok’s lips curled into a smile against his skin. “I could try.”
Namjoon turned in his hold, taking in the way the morning light caught the gold in Hoseok’s eyes, softening the sharp angles of him. He lifted a hand, tracing gentle fingers over his cheekbone before trailing down, over the line of his jaw, the dip of his throat.
Hoseok shivered.
Namjoon’s smile widened. “You’re not built for mornings, love.”
Hoseok huffed, but there was no real bite to it. Instead, he leaned in, brushing their noses together before pressing a lingering kiss to Namjoon’s lips—slow and warm, the kind that curled into the depths of Namjoon’s chest and settled there.
They stayed like that for a moment, caught in something soft, before Hoseok pulled away just enough to murmur, “Come back to bed?”
Namjoon hesitated. He should tend to the offerings, sweep the courtyard, check the shrine. He should—
Hoseok kissed him again, deeper this time, and Namjoon forgot whatever excuse he had been about to make.
“Alright,” he whispered.
Hoseok grinned, taking his hand and tugging him gently back inside.

By the time Namjoon reentered the sleeping quarters, the others were stirring.
Jimin had turned in his sleep, his hand now splayed across Jungkook’s chest, rising and falling with his breaths. Jungkook was still buried under the blankets, but at some point, Taehyung had shifted closer, his fingers tangled loosely in Jungkook’s hair.
Yoongi was the first to open his eyes, blinking drowsily at Namjoon from where he lay sprawled on his stomach.
“You’re back early,” he murmured, voice thick with sleep.
Namjoon smiled as he sat at the edge of the bedding. “Hoseok dragged me back.”
Yoongi hummed in approval, reaching out blindly to tangle their fingers together. “Good.”
From the other side of the room, Seokjin stretched with a low groan, rubbing at his face before peering over at them. His gaze softened when it landed on Namjoon. “You should rest more,” he said, voice gentle but firm.
Namjoon huffed a laugh. “I rest plenty.”
Seokjin arched a brow, unimpressed. “ Rest properly. ”
Before Namjoon could protest, Seokjin was already moving, tugging at his wrist until Namjoon relented and lay down beside him. The elder wasted no time gathering him close, lips brushing over Namjoon’s temple.
“You give so much of yourself to this place,” he murmured, “but let yourself be taken care of too.”
Namjoon swallowed past the warmth swelling in his throat, settling into the familiar comfort of them.
He let his eyes slip close.
