The second picture is a selfie, with Junhui on the top left corner, smiling; Joshua is behind him, seemingly unaware of the picture being taken. He’s sitting on floor mats with his legs crossed, and is surrounded by four or five cats, plus the orange kitten from the first picture laying on his lap comfortably. “Junnie. I want them all,” Joshua says, awestruck, as he pets two cats at once, an all black cat and a tabby.
Jun chuckles, “I thought you didn’t want a cat, though.”
Joshua glares at him very dramatically, face serious even as he picks up the tabby to place it on his lap.
“I never said that.”
Jun laughs again, face popping fully into frame to kiss Joshua’s cheek.
“Let’s start with just one, then,” Junhui says, and Joshua grunts in answer, which makes him laugh again. The video cuts off.]

“Mhm, it’s pretty,” Junhui answers, and Joshua hums back happily. When he goes back to picking conches, the camera zooms in on his face to show him deep in concentration, tongue poking out. The video cuts off.]

[Instagram post with two pictures and two videos. The first picture has Joshua holding up a big toy gun, aiming it at a screen — a shooting game at an arcade; he’s concentrated on the game and doesn’t seem to notice the picture being taken, neon purple lights illuminating him. Next is a video: it starts with Junhui propping the phone on the ground, then quickly walking away and looking at the camera to check if he was still in the frame. He has several keychains and small plushies hanging on the waistband of his jeans, probably won from claw machines and such. “Shua!”, he calls out to Joshua, who can be seen some steps behind him, counting game tickets, and looks up Junhui. “Check it out! This one’s for you!” Junhui says, grinning and winking at him exaggeratedly; then, he stands in front of a basketball game, grabs a ball and throws it. He misses by a lot. The video cuts out as both Junhui and Joshua double down in laughter. Next, another video: Joshua playing on a claw machine, trying to get the joystick to stay in a very specific position. “You really don't have to do this, love,” Junhui says off-camera. He sounds mildly amused. Joshua frowns, then lightly taps the joystick to the right. “It’s not fair, you got me the little bunny. Don't worry, I’ll get you the big gray thing.” Junhui giggles. “Alright. And his name is Totoro,” he retorts; Joshua’s angry glare is left off-screen as the camera zooms into the pile of plushies, with a medium sized Totoro one indeed laying on top of it, the claw from the machine floating right on top of the plush. “Okay, I think I’ve got it!” Joshua exclaims and enthusiastically presses the button to let the claw down. It descends and closes around the plushie, but it slips away just inches away from the hole. “No! Junnie, I’m sorry,” he says with a pout, staring longingly at the machine. Junhui chuckles and the camera unfocuses, but from the movements it makes it’s fair to assume Junhui walks up to hug Joshua. “Alright, no more spending money on claw machine schemes. I’ll let you buy me a pretzel to make up for it,” Junhui says teasingly, then the video cuts off. Last, a picture of two identical copies of a photo booth strip. It’s got three shots: the first is just Joshua and Junhui smiling widely side by side, their faces pressed together; the second has Joshua placing a half-heart with his hand on Junhui’s cheek, while Junhui’s arm reaches up from the opposite side to place two fingers in a cat ear on top of Joshua's head– it’s an awkward looking position, and the both of them look like they're seconds away from bursting out laughing; in the third, Joshua stares lovingly into Junhui’s eyes, hand cradling the side of his face, the shot likely capturing the moment right before Joshua was leaning in to kiss him.]

Junhui has never been this nervous in his life. Well, except that one time Soonyoung made them all go to that roller-coaster-haunted-house thing. Or when he was twelve and almost broke his mother's heirloom tea set. Even then, he feels like his fear had been justified in both cases– the roller coaster was in a dingy, likely unlicensed carnival visiting town, and his mother's tea set had been passed down from, like, four or so generations. It made sense to be scared; his fears had cause and effect.
Cause: old roller coaster rails went off track because they probably hadn't seen a maintenance guy in a decade. Effect: Junhui and his friends die a tragic and honestly kind of pathetic and avoidable death. Cause: twelve year old Junhui knocks down a cabinet holding his mom’s fancy china while practicing for his dance class. Effect: the whole cabinet falls, breaking everything, likely hurting him and definitely severing his family's connection to their ancestors.
He’s not sure how to wrap his head around his feelings this time, though. What’s he scared of? What could go wrong?
Cause: Joshua says no (he wouldn't, though). Cause: Junhui messes up the order of what he has planned and half-asses the proposal (maybe, but it’s not that complicated of a proposal, and the order of things wasn't really that big of a deal). Cause: he doesn't get to ask because the government takes him away for knowing too much (about what?) Effect: ????
The ring box hiding inside his coat pocket seems to weigh a ton. He has to stop himself from palming at it every few seconds to make sure it's still there, as if to not seem suspicious– he’s pretty sure Joshua has no idea of his plans, though, but better safe than sorry.
The botanical garden looks truly beautiful at night, lit up like this. The sight greets them from afar and gets even better the closer they get to it; booking it for this date really hadn't been easy, so Junhui is pretty content with what he’d managed to plan out.
“Junnie? Yah, Earth to Moon Junhui? Are you even listening?” Joshua calls out, stopping in his tracks in front of him; he must have been way too deep inside his pessimistic thoughts and didn't notice Joshua talking to him.
Junhui chuckles nervously. “No, sorry baby. What were you saying?”
Joshua snorts and nudges Junhui’s shoulder playfully. “Nothing, really. Why are you so distracted, anyway?” Junhui can almost feel his heart jump out of his chest. Has he been that obvious the whole time? “I already told you I’d like anything you picked. Just celebrating with you is good enough, silly.”
Right, the excuse. Junhui feels the weight being lifted off his shoulders; he smiles softly, placing a quick peck to the corner of Joshua’s lips. It wasn't exactly an excuse, but the events did line up almost perfectly: their fourth anniversary was coming up, and turns out Joshua would have to travel in the week of; therefore, Junhui suggested they commemorate a week early, and offered to plan the date. Hook, line and sinker.
The double doors in front of the greenhouse were unlocked, as per the details he’d worked out when choosing the place — a botanical garden held in private property, which sometimes took visitors, and had decent online reviews. Joshua opens the doors for them, since both of Junhui’s hands were occupied– one holding Joshua’s, and the other holding a picnic basket filled with snacks and drinks.
It’s even more breathtaking on the inside: dozens of different flowers are scattered around, whether hanging from the walls or planted in some dirt patches. There's a large tree planted right in the middle of the place, its pink flowers almost in bloom but not quite. Several other foliages grow beside the flowers in the patches, and a stone path marks the walkable sections of the greenhouse.
When Junhui’s eyes land on Joshua, he sees the awestruck expression on his face, and his heart swells. He looks so incredibly beautiful like this, content and starry eyed, illuminated by the floor lanterns and fairy lights hanging from the walls.
“This place is so pretty, Junnie. I love it,” Joshua says, eyes still roaming the place, taking it in. The smile on his face is nothing but genuine, and Junhui loves him so much it hurts.
“Marry me.”
Wait. Did he just say that out loud?
“Woah, what?” Joshua asks, taken aback. His hand is still in Junhui’s, at least, so he’s probably more shocked at the timing than the question itself.
“Shit. I’m sorry, this wasn't how I planned to do it at all but… I can’t believe there was ever a time in my life where I wasn't with you. And, just being with you here, right now- it just slipped out, I guess.” Junhui feels like he’s about to burst; his hands are shaking so much and this is not how he wanted the proposal to go. Still, with trembling fingers he lays the basket down on the floor and reaches inside his coat, grabbing the ring. He can hear Joshua’s breath faltering. “I meant it, though. Will you marry me?”
“You’re so- of course I will,” Joshua answers, and in Junhui’s mind there are fireworks, shooting stars, confetti falling and a whole orchestra playing. He’s smiling so hard, and when he cradles Joshua’s face he doesn't have to wait a second before their lips meet in a kiss; they stay wrapped in each other’s arms for what seems like eternity. Joshua is the one who breaks them apart, pushing at Junhui’s shoulders lightly. “Actually, I have a confession. I kind of knew about it beforehand.”
Junhui’s eyes widen. “What? How? Did one of the guys show you the account? It was Jeonghan, wasn't it?”
Joshua giggles at the accusation, shaking his head. “No, I saw the ring in your drawer like two weeks ago. You're really bad at hiding things, by the way,” He teases, then pauses. “Wait, back up. What account?”
“Oh. Um, nothing.”
“Yah, are you really going to lie to your fiancé?”
His fiancé. Junhui feels giddy, light on his feet like he’s about to float out into the sky at any minute.
“I’m not gonna lie, I love how that sounds. But- it’s nothing, really. Just some pictures of our dates and stuff that I had on my phone, and then I started posting them on a private account as like an archive thing, but then Minghao saw me messing with it so he followed it, and then he got Hansol to follow it too and- you know, you tell a guy, and then he tells a guy,” Junhui rattles on, the whole thing spilling out of him like an overflowing river. Joshua stares at him throughout it, an unreadable look on his face.
“So our whole friend group knows about this?”
“Kind of? Lately it’s become like a countdown thing for when I was going to propose to you. I think they’ve been placing bets,” Junhui answers sheepishly, and Joshua laughs in disbelief. “Are you mad?”
“Why would I be mad?” Joshua asks, eyebrows furrowed. “Can I see it?”
Junhui feels his cheeks redden. “It’s kind of embarrassing.”
“Please?”
He sighs. “Fine. No making fun of me, though.” Might as well admit defeat. Junhui fishes his phone out of his pocket, opening up the account and handing the phone to Joshua, who grabs it excitedly. He scrolls for a good while, face flushed and smile widening with every post.
“Holy- Oh my God. Look at all these captions! You’re so sappy, I love it,” Joshua says with a giggle, beaming up at Junhui.
By the time he reaches the very first post, his eyes are glossy with unshed tears, but he has the prettiest grin Junhui has ever seen plastered on his face. Junhui doesn't even have the time to think before he feels soft lips on his and he melts into it without hesitation.
“You're insane. I love you so much,” Joshua whispers, forehead resting on Junhui’s.
Junhui chuckles, all his anxieties from before now completely gone. “I love you, too.”
