Alright, so I'll set the scene for you.

I worked at this outdoor retreat resort thing nestled in the woods. It was a handful of lodges scattered about, each with their own fenced "yard" area, with some communal facilities like a pool too.

It was relatively premium, appealing to the middle-class folk, especially families during the summer period. The parents could relax surrounded by nature while the kids played in the space.

As you can imagine, my job was a bit mundane, but it paid well so it was fine as a seasonal thing. I was typically a lifeguard but I'd do odd jobs when required.

It was mid-May, just before the usual school vacation rush, but our largest lodge had been booked out, which was uncommon.

That, and the pool was to be closed for most of the day for "unexpected maintenance". In reality, someone clearly wealthy had offered the resort's owner enough money to privately hire the pool. This wasn't a thing we ever offered, but money talks.

I figured it was just some students or a bachelor party or something. Little did I know how wrong I was...
