"Hawks- where are we going?" Dabi couldn't believe that he'd let the bird fucking blindfold him, at least out of bed. He'd already almost walked into a pole and nearly tripped up the stairs, only saved by the hero's damn feathers redirecting him.
It was a terrible idea, he could be leading him to his death, or maybe to prison.
"Not telling you!"
"It's all your fault if I trip and die-"
"Not gonna let you trip and die, hot stuff."
Hawks was holding onto his hand too - and Dabi felt more flushed than he should. He only hoped that the night concealed his pink cheeks.
"Last few stairs, just be careful-"
He directed a grumble towards the hero, unsure of how he should be careful when he couldn't fucking see anything.
"Alright!" He eventually made it onto what felt like flat concrete, and was dragged the last few steps to whatever Hawks was hiding from him. "Lemme take it off for you-"
Finally.
Gentle hands untied the blindfold from around his head, moving it away as he blinked to make his eyes adjust. Once he could focus, he gazed towards the scene infront of him, his throat immediately going dry.
They were on top of a high roof top, the view of the city spreading out infront of them as far as the eye could see, exceptionally far for somebody like Hawks.
There was a blanket laid out on the floor, with some pillows and candles dotted around. In the middle of it all was some takeaway food, the smell making Dabi's stomach rumble.
Well..it definitely wasn't a deathtrap, or prison.
"What's this..?"
"What do you think?"
"If I didn't know any better..I'd say it looks like a date, birdie."
"Bingo." Hawks had no reason to, yet held onto his hand again, intertwining their fingers together.
"..Why?"
"Because we've never really had a proper date..and I guess that's supposed to come first-"
Dabi couldn't quite decide if he wanted Hawks dead, or if he wanted to kiss him.
"You're.. ridiculous."
"I know." The hero wasn't easily put off, holding his hand and leading him over to the blanket. He sat down with him, close enough that their knees were touching. "I brought food- so at least enjoy that."
He and Hawks had both fucked each other senseless into Hawks' luxury mattress.. and now they were on a first date?
Dabi didn't think he could wrap his head around it, but he'd at least accept the good food.
"You got what I like, too."
"Course I did, I do listen to you, y'know."
That shouldn't have made his heart flutter the way it did, a warm feeling spreading through his chest and stomach at the notion of somebody bothering to get to know him.
"Thanks, birdbrain."
Hawks always watched him a bit weirdly when he ate, always encouraging him to try some more, but he wasn't going to waste the food infront of him.
"Sorry that it's not completely hot by now-"
"It's fine, Hawks." Dabi couldn't care less as he started to pick from the container, not having realised how hungry he'd been. It tasted good, better than the instant noodles that he basically lived off at the league's base.
He was spoilt, around Hawks.
"Here- try some of this one."
Hawks was holding some food up to him inbetween his chopsticks, and Dabi hesitated for a moment before eating it, because nobody could see him anyway. It was only him and Hawks, and what would he tell his handlers anyway? He fed the big, bad villain Dabi?
"It's good." He replied after swallowing, recieving what he'd learnt to be a happy wing flap from the hero next to him.
"I could eat so much of this-"
"Glutton."
Hawks rolled his eyes at him, but even to Dabi, it was clear that it was fondly.
"Is this your first date ever?"
"Can't you tell that just by looking at me?"
"You're pretty, I'm sure plenty people would wanna take you out on a date. But still, I'll guess that it is your first then."
"Thought that Hawks were supposed to have good eyesight." Dabi huffed before putting some more food in his mouth.
"The best." There was a hand on his thigh, but it wasn't something that he wanted to pull away from. "Which means, I'm right about you being pretty."
"Sure, birdie." He looked back at him, Hawks' eyes practically glowing in the low light. They were mesmerising, but so was the kiss that Hawks gave him a moment later, his hand still on his thigh and rubbing it lightly.
"Hopefully you'll believe me one day." He murmured after pulling away, the breeze lightly tussling his hair.
"That mean you gonna keep telling me?"
"Yeah." One of Hawks' large wings wrapped around Dabi's side and brought him closer, making him practically lean against Hawks' side.
"How sweet."
"Obviously, I have to impress you on our first date."
"And the second?"
"That too."
Even when they weren't speaking, it was comfortable sitting with Hawks and looking out at the city below, the lights and the moon being the only thing illuminating it. It was peaceful, the only sound being their breathing and the occasional hum of the breeze.
"You can come back to mine after this, if you want."
"I'm kinda tired."
"I don't mean for sex..I just mean to sleep."
This whole thing with Hawks was still relatively new, and yeah, sometimes Dabi crashed at his place, but it still didn't feel like something two fuck buddies would be doing. He supposed that neither did going on a date.
"Alright, I wouldn't pass up a night in your bed."
"More excited about my bed than my company." Hawks huffed.
"'S what happens after sleeping on the shitty beds at the league's place for so long." And the floor or a thin mattress for years as a teenager, but he wouldn't get into that.
"You can come sleep in my bed whenever."
"Dangerous offer, I'll never leave."
"No complaints." Hawks grinned at him, putting his finished container of food to the side.
"You're scandalous, pretty bird."
"Can't help myself with you." As well as his wing, Hawks' arm snaked around him, and it felt so fucking good to be brought closer to the hero, to be wanted.
With a roll of his eyes mirroring Hawks' earlier, Dabi turned to the side and pressed a kiss to his jaw.
He recieved one back only a moment later, a kiss to his scars that he could barely feel, but knew was there.
"Hey, what's your favourite colour?"
"What?"
"You're supposed to ask questions on a first date." Hawks was holding onto his hand while looking at him, wearing an expression that looked..genuine.
"I dunno..black I guess."
"Should have expected that- mine is blue, just like your eyes."
"Sappy bastard."
"What's your favourite song?"
"Anything other than the shit you listen to."
"Hey- my pop songs are not that bad!" His wings fluffed up as he pouted.
"It was especially bad when you started playing Taylor Swift songs to set the mood."
"That was just a lapse in judgement.."
"Uh huh." Dabi grinned, flicking some of Hawks' messy hair. At first, he'd been reserved, expecting Hawks to ask something actually useful, something that he could report back on, but it didn't seem that way.
"What's your favourite hobby?"
"Asking as if I have one."
"Well..I don't have one either, not even as a kid."
"Me neither." Dabi shrugged. "Didn't do a lot." At least not a lot of what he was supposed to. He did a lot of training..but that didn't get him far.
"What did you want to be, as a kid?"
He let out a sigh after swallowing the lump in his throat, staring out at the dark city rather than Hawks. "Didn't every kid just wanna be a hero?"
"A lot did..and still do." It took Hawks a moment to reply, digesting Dabi's words. "I know that I did, 'cuz I wanted to save my mom. But..there's a lot to it that I hadn't expected, back then."
"Shitty hero society for you."
"A little kid would've never expected the days without sleep, the assassinations, the honeypot missions."
Dabi finally looked at Hawks again, intertwining their hands just as he had earlier. He didn't have the right words, but he could at least listen, learn more about him.
"Is this a honeypot mission?"
"No, course not. There would be no dates, and I definitely wouldn't stay lazing around with you until the next morning if it was."
He could have been lying, but Dabi couldn't sense anything other than genuineness in his voice. Maybe he was just hearing what he wanted.
"I'm special then, huh? Or you just have a thing for villains."
"I guess both." Hawks' laugh was soft, and Dabi wanted to hear it everyday for much longer than what was possible. He wanted to always hear and see the real Hawks - not the camera ready hero. "Seemed that the questions worked, we both learnt things about each other."
With a quiet hum, Dabi leant his head on Hawks' shoulder, feeling a small shiver pass through his body.
"Are you cold?"
"I'm alright."
Dabi put his arm around Hawks regardless, heating his body up slightly.
"Feels nice, hotstuff."
Dabi hummed back, focusing on keeping his quirk calm and controlled. He could use it longer, that way. It felt different, too, using it for good rather than to hurt.
"Gonna fall asleep on me?" He asked when Hawks half lay against him, leeching off of his warmth.
"Maybe."
"I'm not carrying you back."
"I know." Even without looking at him, Dabi could sense the smile on his face.
They stayed up on the rooftop for a while longer, Hawks happily using him as a personal heater, before gathering their few things back up and heading back to Hawks' warm apartment.
It left Dabi with an unusually warm feeling in his chest, something close to what he imagined teenage love was like. It was nice..and something that he didn't want to give up.
Maybe he could hold onto it for a bit longer, he thought as he lay in Hawks' bed, the hero hugging him from behind with a leg over his waist, seemingly not planning on letting him go soon, either.
