Chapter Text
Grian lived a normal, boring life.
He worked as a lawyer at a company. Now you might hear 'lawyer' and think "Oh cool he's defending people that are accused of being criminals and helping them. That doesn't sound boring at all" But you'd be wrong. Grian didn't defend people, he was just doing the paperwork he had never even been inside a court. Maybe he was helping people this way, but it certainly didn't feel like that.
It was an awful job and Grian hated it. Every day he would just sit behind his desk for a few hours while reading through papers, labeling them or signing stuff, once that was done he would go home, sleep and then when he woke up the cycle would restart.
Every single day was the same, go to work in the dark, work for hours, have a thirty minute break, ignore the other lawyers that whispered stuff about him, work again and then he would walk home in the dark.
He never really saw the sunlight, or well he saw it from his office window.
Grian had never wanted to be a lawyer, but his parents had forced him to become one. "Oh Grian, it pays really well" "Oh Grian, you'll like it eventually" "Just become a lawyer so that I can brag to my friends about you" his parents always said. They never said the last thing but that was what they meant, Grian knew it.
And now he was a lawyer and he was miserable, but at least they were happy.
At the moment Grian was walking to his job, he walked in "Hello Gregg" he greeted the secretary. "Morning Brian" Gregg responded, not looking away from the computer in front of him. Grian didn't even bother correcting him anymore, it was too late now anyway. Gregg had been calling Grian, Brian for the past two years.
Grian kept walking, he stopped at his office and walked in. He took off his coat, put his bag down and got to work, just like he did almost every single day. The sun slowly rose as Grian worked, he stared out of the window for a second "Mr Moon, working hard I see"
Grian jumped up and looked at where the voice had come from. His boss was now standing in his office, of course he would walk in the second that Grian stopped working. "M- mr L-Long, hello. I- I was just uhm" Grian started but Mr Long interrupted him "Staring out of the window" it wasn't a question, it was a statement.
"Y-yeah, but just for a second. I was just getting back to work actually" Grian responded, he did not want to get in trouble with his boss. His boss hated him enough already. Grian quickly focused back on the papers in front of him, trying to avoid eye contact with Mr Long.
"Sure, sure, well since you seem to have enough time to be staring out of the window. I'll give you something to do, wouldn't want you to be bored right?" Mr Long asked, he pulled out another pile of papers and dropped them on Grian's desk. It landed right next to the papers that he was already working on.
Mr Long then turned around and walked towards the door again "I expect that to be done by tomorrow" he said with a look over his shoulder as he walked. Then he closed the door behind him, once the door was closed Grian let out a groan, his fist landing on his desk with a loud thump. He took the pile of papers and started looking through them.
There was no way he could get all of it done by the day, his boss was literally setting him up for failure. Not that Grian could tell that to his boss, he'd be fired on the spot. So he just got to work. After an hour of work Grian stood up and went to get some coffee, he had an idea that he was going to need it.
He stepped into the breakroom, everyone stopped talking the second he stepped inside. He ignored it, as usual, and started filling his cup "That's that weirdo from office seventeen" he heard someone whisper. "How is that guy even a lawyer?" Another person whispered.
Grian just acted as if he hadn't heard them, those people really had to work on properly whispering. The comments didn't bother him anymore, he was used to it by now. He just filled his cup and walked back out of the room, back to his office. He got back to work, it was definitely needed if he wanted to get home before midnight. He worked for hours and just decided to have lunch in his office.
People started leaving, they walked past Grian's office and acted like they weren't looking inside.
Grian felt as if he was an animal at a zoo, but he'd just rolled his eyes and continued working. He saw the sun come up and now he was watching it go down. Hours and hours later he was finally done, he could already feel the headache that he would get thanks to the paperwork.
He stood up, walked to Mr Long's office, dropped the paperwork off and left. He walked outside, the cold air hitting his face as soon as he did. Grian ignored it, he just wrapped his coat more around himself and kept walking. As he made his way home he heard a sound come from behind him but didn't think that much of it.
Another sound came from behind him, he turned around to see where it had come from. When he did he was suddenly grabbed from behind, a hand covered his mouth so that he couldn't scream. Muffled yells left him but he shut up when he heard the person grabbing him speak. "It will all be easier if you don't struggle" a voice said, a voice that Grian didn't recognize.
Grian moved wildly and tried to get out of the grip of the person, completely ignoring what the man had said. The man turned Grian to face him and pushed him to the ground. Grian hit his head on the pavement, black spots immediately appearing in his vision.
Frantically Grian looked around, his eyes searching for his phone that had fallen out of his pocket. Grian tried to reach for it but the person holding him wasn't having it. He pulled Grian hand back, forcing it to the ground.
He screamed against the muffled hand, both out of pain and fear. The person grabbed the back of Grian's head and slammed him against the ground again. Grian could taste blood in his mouth, this really wasn't good. He had to get out of her. Suddenly the hand covering Grian's mouth left, there was a second of hope inside of him.
But it disappeared as he was picked up just a second later. The person was holding him over their shoulder, their arm wrapped around Grian's torso in a way that prevented Grian from using his arms. All he could do was kick the man using all his power, but nothing he did seemed to affect the man.
The person walked a bit, Grian tried to move and get away but his body wasn't listening to him. "You got one?" Another person asked "Yeah, I warned him not to struggle and then he did struggle. So annoying when they do that, they sell better when they're not covered in blood"
Grian was thrown into the back of a truck, the person who was holding him stood in front of him, blocking his way out. They stared at him, their face completely back in the dark light of the night. The man looked at Grian with disgust, as if he had been an inconvenience to him. He walked out of the truck, Grian jumped up when he realized that the man was about to close the doors.
He tried to jump out, to escape before the doors fully closed. But he was too late, the doors closed right in front of Grian's eyes. His chance to escape was now gone. Grian tried to somehow open the door, but the doors wouldn't budge.
The truck started driving, Grian fell to the floor of the truck.
What could he do? What was he supposed to do? He had never expected to get kidnapped, he wasn't prepared for this. He- he had to- to remember, he had to remember where he was going, at least that was what documentaries about survivors always said.
The kidnapped people would remember where they went and what their kidnappers looked like. Then they would escape and go to the cops. Grian just had to somehow do that, if he did that he could survive, hopefully.
Where would the kidnappers even be taking him? Where would he be once the doors would open again.
Grian had been so lost in his thoughts that he already forgot the way that they were going. He was a useless victim. Or well his kidnappers would probably like that he already lost his way, they would love it if he didn't escape.
But he had to escape, he had to get out.
Grian sat still in the truck, waiting for the moment that it would stop driving. Waiting for the moment that the doors opened, he would just need to run for it. He couldn't run very fast, he was a lawyer for goodness sake. But he had to try.
Time passed, how much time Grian didn't know. His head hurt, his vision wanted to give up on him but he forced his eyes to stay open, he forced himself to pay attention. Eventually the truck came to a stop and the doors to freedom opened. Grian had been ready, standing in front of the doors ready to jump and run. Where? He had no idea but he knew that he had to get away from the person that had taken him.
The doors opened in what seemed like slow motion and Grian ran. He didn't get very far though, he jumped right on top of one of them men. There were two people there now, one was the person that had taken Grian and the other a stranger.
The stranger grunted and fell to the ground, dragging Grian down with him. Grian tried to run but the stranger took a hold of his ankle just in time, making his trip and fall. The other kidnapper started clapping slowly like he was the villain in a movie. He picked Grian up by his collar and held him above the ground.
"You can't escape, it will be better for all of us if you stop trying" the kidnapper said, Grian tried to punch the guy, tried to kick the guy, but nothing worked. The guy didn't look affected by Grian's attempts, he didn't even react to them.
He walked away, still holding Grian.
Grian didn't know where they were going, he didn't even know where they were. The van had stopped in a big warehouse, the walls and floors were blank. There was no way to recognize anything. He was brought into a small room with a bed, the kidnapped sat Grian down on the bed. He grabbed a rope from the floor and started tying Grian's hands together.
Grian tried to pull his hands away but the kidnapper had a good grip on him. He couldn't get his hands free and now they were tied up. The rope around his hands was connected to the leg of the bed in the room, there was no way for Grian to leave.
"Enjoy this place for now, tomorrow we leave. Better appreciate this room for now, who knows where you'll end up tomorrow" The kidnapper said with a chuckle. He looked down at Grian "You better get used to being tied up" he said before he left the room, the door locking behind him.
Grian looked down at his hands, then at the bed, then back to the door. He was stuck, there really was no escape. There was no vent, no window and the door was locked. Grian refused to lay down on the bed, fearing what could happen if he fell asleep. He instead sat on the bed,his back to the wall and his eyes towards the door..
It seemed like nobody would be visiting him again that night, only when Grian was sure of that he looked around the room. There was nothing apart from the bed, just a room with four walls, a door and a bed. That was it, nothing Grian could use to escape, there was no way out for him. There wasn't even a toilet.
The kidnapper had talked about tomorrow, what would happen tomorrow? He had said that Grian would be moved, he sounded like he didn't know where Grian would end up. That couldn't mean a lot of good. Who was Grian kidding, nothing about this situation was good.
He had been kidnapped, he had been taken. Would anyone even notice that he was gone? Would someone even come looking for him? Grian didn't have any friends and he lived far away from his family, nobody would notice if he suddenly disappeared.
He really was the best person for someone to kidnap.
Maybe it had been targeted, maybe someone kept seeing him walk home alone in the dark. Maybe they had been watching him for a while, that thought gave Grian chills.
It didn't matter, it didn't matter why they had taken him. The only thing that mattered was that he had been taken. And right now there was nothing that he could do about it, he could only wait. Wait for the door to open again.
Wait for the kidnapper to return to take him somewhere.
