Maybe he had escaped? That seemed unreasonable considering if he somehow did he would help release the other two.
Only two other options seemed plausible enough for the outcome of what could have possibly happened to him:
A) he was being experimented on now, which was very bad.
Or…
B) he was dead. Which is way, way worse than the first option and Grian didn’t even want to the about the chances of Jimmy being dead.

OR
Jimmy had suffered too much loss already but when his last remaining family members were kidnapped and taken by a corrupt company, he does anything he can to stop them.
And by anything, I mean EVERYTHING.
And also apparently find the first sprouts love along the way?

Summary
It's the first winter after Pitch's defeat. Jack is happy, he's not alone anymore, and his memories are gradually returning. But when a treasure hunt gone wrong puts Jack and Jamie in danger, flinging them through time and space, they find themselves on an island neither of them have heard of before. Jack's first priority is to get Jamie home safe, but Berk's inhabitants - human and otherwise - are certainly not making it easy.
Knowing they will leave Berk and the Vikings behind as soon as they know how to, Jack is not going to risk the pain of growing close to any of these people (or dragons, for that matter). But Hiccup Horrendous Haddock, wearing his heart on his sleeve, doesn't seem to want to take the hint.

Under the bright light of the moon, Grian could see the man’s face clearly. His fluffy brown hair fell over his forehead lightly, and his nose was a bit puffy, like he’d been punched recently. He had a couple scars on his face, one bisecting his eyebrow and another starting under his lip and travelling below his chin. There was a mask looped around one of his ears, and Grian knew he was meant to be wearing it. But it was his eyes that made Grian’s blood run cold.
His eyes were a kind of piercing that had the capability to strike fear with a glance. They were bright green, the brightest Grian had ever seen in his life. They were narrowed, calculating. Cold. They were the eyes of a killer.
“Fly away, Birdie.”

Grian's life gets turned upside down overnight after an accidental run in with one of Hermit City's most notorious serial killers, the Hunter.
