Work Text:

It was a chilly night in Robloxia.

Scratch that, freezing day.

..No, glacial.

Maybe arctic at this point. It is snowing.

Kasper was walking down the sidewalk with his

boyfriend, Lampert.

Despite the temperature, it was pretty much an average day for him and the lamp so far.

Kasper wanted Lampert to try hot chocolate, the conditions were perfect for him to.

(and ‘cause you can't just go your whole life without at least trying hot chocolate..)

(..and because he wanted something to actually make the weather bearable).

He ended up taking the elevator with him to a nearby coffee shop.. bakery.. thing.

He honestly never knew what to call that place. It sells coffee like some lame Starbucks, but it also sells entire cakes? Pick one??

However.. alas.. It ended up being sold out.

Makes sense atleast, it is late December, almost being Christmas and all. And maybe it was their mistake for going at night..

He recalls the look on Lampert’s face when they exited the store, snickering at the memory.

They were now looking for somewhere else to go for hot chocolate. And also, you know, somewhere actually open at this hour.

He would usually shrug something like this off, and set his sights elsewhere in town for another activity; but he was determined to get Lampert a hot chocolate.

He noticed the boy standing to the left of him shivering.

“..You good? I can run into that bookstore over there to charge my phone so we aren't just.. Wandering around aimlessly in the cold.”

Lampert glared at him. “Huh? Oh– No, it's fine. It’ll take too long... You.. You don't even have a charger with you, do you?”

“Yeah, I don't.. But! I think that store has a charger. I've been like.. Frice.”

“Is.. ‘Frice’ a real word?.. What does that even mean?”

“Like.. Like Five times. Like the word.. Twice, or.. Like..” He paused longer to think this time. “Thrice..”

“Kasper— That's.. Frice isn't a real word, Kas..” he light-heartedly replied.

“Yeah, well, it is now, okay? Trust me on this.” he chuckled, the lamp mirroring it.

The pair walked for a bit longer before Kasper remembered that Lampert was- Is shivering.

“You look, like, really cold—we should probably hurry up.”

Yeah, I am. Why don't you do one of those clique romcom tropes and give me your jacket or something?”

“Dude.. You have a sweater and a scarf, and what– Snow pants? I fear you don't need that..” He says half-jokingly.

“Selfish, much?” he giggled.

“You are literally demanding my jacke–”

Wait, Kas! Look! There's a cafè across the road over there! They might have hot chocolate!” He exclaimed whilst nudging him on his shoulder, pointing to the over there! in question.

“Oh! Yeah i'm pretty sure that place is still open.. Well, do we– uh.. run? There aren't any cars around this side of town at this hour.”

“Yes! You're on.”

Lampert suddenly sprints in the direction of the cafè across the snowed over sidewalk, and onto the frosty roads—sticking his tongue out slightly in determination, smiling smugly.

Kasper, caught off guard, stumbled off balance—yelling to him (a bit too loudly) “Lamp–fuck- Dude! I didn't say it was a race!” the last word slurring with laughter.

He still took up the challenge, though.

His eyes shot down to the ground as he began to start running—watching carefully, trying his hardest to not slip on the frost.

All efforts were in vain however, when he shot his gaze back up to check how far ahead Lampert was (..he was practically at the cafè at this point), his step forward took the wrong angle and he tripped over.

Luckily, he was able to catch himself with his hands. Not-so-luckily, he still fell on ice, meaning his clothes were damp, especially his jeans.

He heard Lampert run over to him. “Holy shit- Are you good, dude..?” he giggled out, helping Kasper up from the ground.

He groaned lightly, mostly out of annoyance then pain. “Yeah.. All good. Do you have anything to clean my hands? There's a bunch-a grass and stuff on ‘em.”

“And jeans...” Lampert added for him, pointing down to his legs.

“But, yeah, I have these wipes in my pocket.”

“Thanks, Lamp..” He half-mumbled.

He quickly cleaned himself off, lazily dropping the wipe when done.

“..Thaaat’s littering.”

“Well what do you want me to do with it?”

“Hang onto it for a second and throw it away in the shop?”

..

“Right.”

The two lugged into the cafè, Kasper locating the trash can, and Lampert admiring the Christmas decorative display. It was advertising some gingerbread making kit.. Maybe he and Kasper should do that some time. Sounds like fun.

The shop was nearing closing time, they seemed to be the only other people in the store (besides the cashier).

The duo walked up to the counter, with Kasper cutting to the chase.

“Hey! Are you guys still serving hot choc—?”

“No, we sold out of that a while ago.. My apologies, sir.” the employee replied.

..

“Alright, have a great day!”

As soon as the pair was out of the store, Kasper immediately complained.

“You gotta be kidding me, man..”

“It's fine, really.. I'm sure we can find something else to do. Besides, it's just hot chocolate..” He affirmed.

“Yeah, I guess... Just sucks we had to travel so far in this weather for nothing.”

Lampert gave a slightly saddened hum in response.

The two then fall into a semi-comfortable silence outside of the store, trying to figure out what they could do next.

Lampert’s mind thought of the gingerbread making kit, but he supposed that that seemed funner for them to do on Christmas, instead of a random Thursday night..

Maybe that one card game they haven't played in a while. What was its name again? Dos?

Kasper suddenly beamed up. “Oh, wait! I just remembered something I got last month!”

“Oh? What is it?”

“Hot chocolate bombs! You get this little thingy-ma-bob and do whatever it is you do and then you have hot chocolate from just water.. or something! It looks like this.. Chocolate sphere lookin’ thing.” Kas said enticingly.

He threw his arm around the lamp’s shoulder, looking him in his eye. “You might actually be able to try hot chocolate today!”

He softly chuckled, leaning into the brunette's touch. “You sound like an ad read.. But.. Yeah.. That sounds nice.”

“Great! Okay, follow me to the car.”

Amidst his excitement, Kas lost his balance for a split moment—and, after gaining back his footing, stared at the boy beside him.

Lampert affectionately rolled his eyes.

“Just..”

He led his hand to Kasper’s, threading their fingers together.

“Here.” He continued.

Kasper gave a small nod in response.

The door to Kasper’s apartment shut, and then locked promptly; the lamp making himself comfortable on one of the chairs to the kitchen's island.

As Kasper stepped into the area, he realized something.

“Ugh.. I forgot where I put it.”

“...You- You did? Didn't you buy these last month?”

“Yeah.. but I've always been hooorrible at organizing my kitchen. I know where the fridge is and that's about it.” He snickered.

“Get organization labels or something.. Whenever I come over here it's like you have no idea where anything is.” He half-joked.

Kasper opened up the door to his pantry. “Ugh.. Okay so it would be..”

He began scrummaging around the endless amounts of containers he owned. (They were gifted by Lampert! He wasn't just gonna not use them!)

“Why the hell do I have a bag of pepperoni..? This looks like it expired 3 centuries ag— Oh- Oh fuck- It has mold on it—” He said before tossing it in the trash. “..Maann.”

“Maybe you should.. Stop buying random things.. or something.. just some advice?”

“Look, my grocery store has really good deals, and I can't just.. Pass it up, okay?” the pair laughs.

“Oh–! I think I found ‘em!”

Kasper pulls out a brown box, decorated with shiny gold colored lines around the surface, along with the supposed brand name with “HOT CHOCOLATE BOMBS” in a pretty cursive typeface continuing it.

“That looks kinda.. Expensive. Why did you have them just laying around in your pantry like that?”

“Pfffftt.. Please, this was like 5 bucks at a bake sale..”

“..You go to bake sales?”

“Yeah, but only on the off-chance there's girl scout thin mints.”

“..Thin mints can't be that good.”

“Oh, but they are… Trust me, they are.”

Kasper walks up to the counter and sets the box on the surface, gesturing for Lampert to stand with him.

“So.. What—What do we do?”

“Yeaaahh i'm not that sure yet. Maybe I should've.. like.. learnt how to do this.”

Lampert takes the box and opens the lid to it, revealing 3 neatly decorated.. chocolate sphere things. Kasper was correct with the sloppy explanation. How else do you describe this?

“Uh. Okay. Whatever. I'm just gonna Google it. If there were any physical instructions it's probably been looongg thrown out.”

Kasper pulls out his phone from his pocket, bringing it up to his chest. Clicking the power button on it's side revealed..

“...Of fucking course it's dead.”

“Ugh.. What now, then?”

“Well, we could take the elevator aalllll the way back to your place to get my charger from there, we could drive aalllll the way to town and charge my phone in the bookstore. Or! We could just wing it.”

Lampert blinked.

“Wing it.”

“Yeah.”

Kasper dramatically throws his arms into the air, stretching, followed by cracking his knuckles.

“Ohhh-kaaayy.. So i'm guessing we need a cup first.. Do I have any mugs? I think that would fit the vibe better..”

Kasper began searching his (Once again, poorly organized) cupboards for any sign of a mug—but all he could scrounge up was some lame excuse of one. A tall glass cup with two handles sticking out of its side.

“Kasper.. Where in actual hell did you get something like this?”

“Lampert! What's with that tone? It-It's great.. right? Look.. L-Look at it.”

“..It looks like that shape that has no volume.”

“Whatever! It’ll do, it’ll do.. Don't worry, little mug.. I’d never, ever make fun of your flaws.. Unlike that guy over there..” he whispered, pointing towards Lampert, obviously holding back laughter.

He puts the “mug” down on the counter, grabs another cup from the cupboard and fills it with water.

“From what I know about hot chocolate bombs, is that you gotta, like.. Pour hot water over it and then it explodes or something.”

“..Huh. Wouldn't using water make it.. Gross? Shouldn't we use milk?”

“..Mehh. It’ll be fine—All these D.I.Y. set things always have you use water, anyway.”

He pours the cup into a pot, and sets it on the stove top, increasing it to a low-ish heat.

“I gotta make sure it doesn't end up boiling.. Honestly, I don't even think it's possible to be in this kinda heat, but I guess it won't hurt to be cautious..”

Kasper sets his eyes back onto the hot chocolate bombs themselves, before gazing at Lampert.

“Alright.. While the water is heating up, is there any in particular you like? I think it's all the same flavor, but.. Like.. Oh! Which do you think will have the most marshmallows?”

“Hm.”

Lampert looks at the three hot chocolate bombs in front of him for a good 20 seconds, his gaze flicking between each of them in order.

Lampert points at the left most one.

“Wow. You seem pretty sure of that..” he holds back a giggle.

“What made you decide that one?”

“..Eeny, meeny, miny, moe.”

Kasper fully chuckled this time. “I'm not sure what I was expecting..”

The brunette continued, “Anyway, I think the waters good enough, now..”

He took the pot from the stove, pouring some into the “mug”, and the rest of it into the cup it was previously in.

Kasper breathed out softly before facing the lamp once more, “Alright, Lamp!.. do you finally wanna do the honors..?” Getting on his tip toes to over exaggerate the moment.

Lampert nodded eagerly, picking up the hot chocolate bomb.

“Okay, great.. So what do I.. What do I do.. with it?”

“Uhh.. Just throw it in the thingy.. I have to dump even more water onto it to actually make it work.”

Lampert hums as a confirmation, steadily dropping the chocolate sphere into the “mug”, watching as Kasper carefully pours the slightly steamy water into it.

After a few seconds of pouring, the hot chocolate bomb cracks open, revealing marshmallows and assumed chocolate.

“..Oh! I didn't think that'd actually happen!” He states, while putting the cup once filled with water down to the counter. “I think I gotta mix it or something now.”

Luckily, Kasper’s silverware was actually organized, so it didn’t take time to find a spoon.

Kas sticks the utensil into the container, circling it around; them both watching the brown hue of chocolate mix with the transparent opacity of water, as well as the marshmallows floating around.

When he deemed it edible, he took the spoon out and tapped it on the edge of the glass to not have any stray hot chocolate lost, before promptly tossing the silverware in the sink.

Finally!! Yes!” Kasper couldn't help himself from jumping slightly and cuddling up to Lampert.

“Kasper— again, It's just hot chocolate..” he smiled slightly with that sentence nonetheless

“I know, but it's still awesome!” He excitedly took the cup with one of it's handles, and gestured for Lampert to take it.

Lampert grabbed the mug, and brought it up to his lips, taking a sip; Kasper anticipating his reaction.

“..Hm.”

“Great, right!?”

“It tastes like..”

“Heaven?”

“...The bare minimum.” He continued.

“What!? Wait, lemme try.”

Kasper quickly reached for the mug in Lampert’s hands, taking a long drag of the hot chocolate. The lamp blushed slightly at the implications of drinking from the same cup, even though they had already kissed plenty of times before.

“Eugh.. yeah, this isn't what it's ‘spposed to taste like..”

 “I think it's the water..”

“Of course.. Well, we can just make another.

“...It's really late, I’m tired..”

“Yeah, I guess.” He sighed out.

“It's fine, Kas.. We can try to get some early tomorrow if you're really this persistent.”

Kasper took the mug and dumped out it's contents, before looking back at Lampert.

“Yeah.. That’d be fun! We just really need to get my charger back.” he chuckled.

Lampert nodded.

“Let's head to bed, now..”
