I will not survive them cuddling with puppies
Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander are sitting on the floor. Around them is a small fence and a few dog toys. Ilya is wiggling like an excited puppy himself, his focus entirely behind the camera. Shane seems amused, looking fondly at his husband.
Cut.
“Welcome everyone to Buzzfeed's Puppy Interview! My name is Shane Hollander.” Shane introduced himself and stopped talking, clearly waiting for Ilya to continue. When no reaction came Shane turned slightly. Ilya Rozanov was fixated on something behind the camera, eyes shining in happiness.
Shane sighed and pointed a finger. “And this is Ilya Rozanov.”
A reverent whispered “Puppies!” could be heard from the Russian, making Shane snort in amusement.
Cut.
Six puppies of different breeds were one after the other put in frame. Some plushies joined the fray of wiggling dogs.
Four of the puppies started jumping around Ilya, who immediately threw a few toys to catch for three of them, while also starting a tug-war with the fourth. One of the puppies just walked around them, sniffing everything.
The last one, a golden retriever, went to Shane, the whole body wiggling with how fast the tail was going. Shanes face turned from amused to fond, as he held his hand out for the puppy to sniff.
Ilya grinned at someone behind the camera. His eyes were sparkling in obvious happiness. “This is going to be hard. People have trouble answering questions, yes?”
A laugh from behind the camera. “Yeah, getting answers is hard sometimes.”
The first question appeared on the screen.
The first Season as the first married couple of Ice Hockey. How is that going? How are the fans?
A moment of silence where Ilya was still surrounded by most of the puppies, clearly not listening to anything. Shane seemed to be thinking about the question. With one finger he is slowly petting the golden retriever puppy that had decided to sit in front of him for now.
“I would say that the first season is going well. We knew before that it would be an adjustment to live and work together but I’m happy!“ Shane grins. “And the fans are awesome. Shoutout to our fans!”
Ilya had looked up at least when Shane answered. The dopey grin that was plastered on his face would not leave for the rest of the interview.
Even though it had seemed like Ilya hadn't even listened to anything happening around him he answered. “Is good season! Good Team, that respects each other and us. And fans will be happy when we bring the Cup home!”
The last statement was followed by a wink before a yipping puppy broke Ilya's concentration.
The next question appeared on the screen.
If you would need to play another position, which would it be?
Shane laughed at the question. This time as well Ilya showed no response. But he seemed to be in an intense discussion in russian with one of the puppies, that had tried to chew on his laces.
Shaned hummed, the one finger pet hat turned into the whole hand, while the little golden retriever seemed to melt into the floor, his head on Shanes calf.
“Does it count if I say Wing?”
Ilyas head snapped up. “No doesn't count! We play Wing and Center both!” The sentence was accompanied by the index finger wiggling in a no-no motion.
Shane grinned at his husband but conceded with a nod. “Then probably defense? I feel like I would be underestimated because of my statue.”
“I want to try goalie. I can be princess in net.” Ilya said with a smirk.
Shane burst into laughter. “You would pull a muscle and cry about it.”
“Not true!” Ilya looked at his husband in outrage. “I would hold all the pucks.”
“Mhm” Shane hummed, obviously not believing a word. “Better than Hazy?”
Ilya pulled a face before he pouted. “No Hazy is best goalie.”
Lets do something easy! What is your favourite movie after a long day?
Shane hummed for a second obviously thinking about his answer. “Its a little hard to decide to be honest, we are flying so much and I watch so many movies because of that.”
“No is easy!” Ilya said, more to one of the puppies than into the camera. “Is Princess Diaries. Anne Hathaway is best actress.”
Shane turned his head slowly to his husband, who was still playing with the puppies as if he hadn't just dropped a piece of lore.
“Princess Diaries?”
“Is great movie Hollander!”
“I guess..” Shane didn't seem sure.
A voice out of frame could be heard. “Did you watch Princess diaries Shane?”
Shane shook his head and gasps around the room were audible.
Ilya picked up one of the puppies, to cuddle closer, while others ran around him. “Is okay, we will watch together and have date night!”
The couple looked at each other for a moment. The silence is broken for the viewer by slow music playing in the background of the video and hearts floating around their softly smiling faces. The moment was over when one of the puppies tripped over Ilya's foot with a squeak, breaking the tension.
“Mine is Mighty Duck probably.” Shane added in thought, still petting the golden retriever puppy that was chewing on a toy in front of him.
Ilya snorted. “Of course you choose hockey film.”
“Shut up!”
What is your favourite workout music to get into the groove?
Ilya looked up from the puppy that he had pulled into his lap. “I like all kinds of music! Right now I listen to Bad Bunny most. Shane likes no music, is weird.”
“Hey! I listen to music.” Shanes protest was interrupted by two puppies running through the frame, almost colliding with the barrier that had been put up to keep them in the play area.
There was a moment of silence where both hockey players were completely focused on the puppies around them. Slow ticking sounds were put into the video, followed by crows cawing.
The music stopped and behind the camera, someone cleared their throat. Shanes head snapped up in surprise.
He started laughing. “Sorry, the puppies were distracting.”
The same voice as before answered. “No worries! What's your answer Shane?”
“Eh…I really don't listen to a lot of music.” Shane answered, slightly blushing in embarrassment. “If I'm alone I listen to podcasts or audio books. But I know Bad Bunny well and Rose made me a playlist to listen to.”
“Because Rose is trying to educate you.” Ilya added in a high pitched voice, directed more at one of the puppies than at his husband.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
While the puppies were playing and running around Ilya, the small golden retriever had fully moved from his place on the floor into Shanes lap, dozing off at the repetition of pets he got. Both didn't react immediately, Shane was looking at the puppy in his lap fondly. Meanwhile Ilya was softly baby talking to the puppies in Russian.
One of the producers cleared their throat from behind the camera to bring the focus back to the questions.
Ilya didn't react much but Shanes head snapped up and grinned sheepishly. “Sorry guys, concentrating is kind of hard.”
“What was question again?” Ilya asked.
Cut.
“So I enjoy reading.” Shane started answering. “Doing Yoga or generally working out, listening to podcasts, simple things.”
While Shane was petting the puppy in his lap, Ilya had started to move more puppies into his lap, with no luck. The one that had settled stumbled over his legs onto the floor. Another one was starting to run around in circles again, and the same culprit from before started the stealth mission to chew some more on the laces of Ilyas shoes. Ilya meanwhile tried with one hand to stop the chewing, while holding onto another puppy. It was not succesful and more a chaotic bound of energy fluttering around.
Shane poked his husband to get him to concentrate on the question.
Ilya snapped his head up. “I like watching movies, cooking and playing with our daughter Anya!”
“Anya is our dog!”
“Shhh Shane, Anya is our first daughter.” Ilya squinted at Shane, before he added. “Spending time with Shane, cuddling with Shane..”
The couple exchanged small smiles, Shanes face had turned slightly red in response to Ilyas answer.
"Same for me as well." Shane mumbled shyly, breaking eye contact with his husband to look down.
Loud cooing could be heard from behind the camera.
“Okay! Last question guys!” A producer behind the camera said.
What are your wishes for the coming seasons?
Ilya sat up from his hunch. “Winning the Cup of course! We are best team right now with strong goalie!”
Shane yelped. "DON'T SAY IT!”
“Why not? Is true!”
“Ilya you are jinxing it.” Shane said, the stress on his face so clear, he even stopped petting the puppy in response. A quiet whimper reminded him and the petting continued, a bit more robotic than before.
Ilya blew a raspberry. “No, I am manifesting!”
The words “Good Luck!” with stars and glitter appeared on the screen.
Cut.
Ilya was now laying on the ground, most of the puppies were scattered all over him in different states of sleep, finally relaxing. Ilya had his eyes closed blissfuly, while one puppy was still running around. Shane was still sitting there in the same position with the golden retriever puppy in his arms. The puppy had turned around and was now laying on his back. The tongue lolling out in bliss, letting himself be pet.
“Thank you Buzzfeed for inviting us to the puppy interview!” Shane said with a soft, relaxed smile.
“Bye byeeee~” Ilya crooned from where he was laying, lazily waving in the general direction of the camera.

I have to start watching ice hockey apparently…
Two days after the Buzzfeed Puppy Interview the fans got a notification that Ilya and Shane had posted something on Instagram. The post showed 2 pictures. One with an Australian shepherd and a golden retriever puppy sitting next to each other with green bandanas. The second picture was the same puppy sleeping on a few blankets on a couch.
