Work Text:

His mansion on the Geldstraat was luxurious, it provided everything he could ever need with almost too many bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways, and staircases for any human mind to comprehend, and a large enough ballroom to host the whole merchant council twice over, but that's not what made Jesper feel at home. The curly red haired boy with the constellation of freckles and a gift for all things musical and artistic, is what gave Jesper the feeling of warmth that only comes from being at home.
Wylan. Wylan Van Eck was his home.

As Jesper strolled down the long gravel driveway of the Van Eck mansion, he could faintly hear the sweet melodies of a piano coming from one of the many rooms in the house. The tune carried across the courtyard and got lost in the twisting branches of the trees lining the driveway before making it's way to bless Jesper's ears.

The sound grew louder as Jesper quickened his gait, eager to reach that beautiful tune and the maestro behind it.
Wylan was playing a song with a sweet lilting melody, which Jesper thought was maybe inspired by nature, or art, or some other thing that Wylan likes.

When Jesper stepped foot into the mansion, he shucked off his coat and scarf, hanging them on the hooks by the door, and made his way to the music room to find his fiance.

So as not to disturb his piano playing, Jesper simply leaned on the door frame and waited for Wylan to notice him. Jesper always thought Wylan looked ethereal, but with the sun from the windows bouncing off his ruddy curls, and the rays giving his face a warm golden glow, Jesper wondered how he'd ever gotten so lucky.

Wylan had his eyes closed, letting his hands lead him over the melody, the sun catching the diamond ring on his left hand. He hadn't noticed that his fiance had returned home and that he was currently leaning on the door frame, a smile playing on his lips, staring at him.
When he finally noticed Jesper, a smile took over his face as well.

"Hi love, you're home early," he said pleasantly, with only a little bit of concern lacing his words, "you said you'd be home at 5 bells, it's only just past 4 bells," he added.

"Maybe I just wanted to surprise you," Jesper replied, making his way over to encircle Wylan's waist with his lanky arms as he sat next to him on the piano stool. The smaller boy leaned into his touch, grateful for the comfort his fiance gave him.

"The job finished early, that's all, nothing to worry about, butterfly," Jesper provided, knowing that if he didn't actually provide the real reason he was home early it would make Wylan worry that something bad had happened and Jesper was hiding it from him.
"What was that you were just playing?" Jesper asked, focusing his eyes on the pieces of sheet music sitting on the piano.
Wylan turned to pick them up, bringing them closer to Jesper so that he could see, not that he could read sheet music anyway. Wylan had tried to teach him once, but Jesper had given up, complaining that "sheet music is only able to be read by geniuses with red curly hair, which I am not."

"Just a little tune that came to me whilst making breakfast this morning, after you'd left," Wylan explained.

"What's it about? Does it have a title yet?"

Wylan looked away sheepishly, and Jesper knew he was hiding that gorgeous blush which tended to make it's way over Wylan's freckled cheeks quite often.
"Wy, come onnn, don't hide your beautiful face from me," Jesper pleaded, poking Wylan's side, "that's a crime!" Jesper added dramatically.
Wylan chuckled a little before looking back at the boy and answering quietly, "You, they're always about you."
Instead of teasing him or making a joke, or doing whatever Jesper usually did when Wylan said something romantic, he just stared at Wylan in awe, in love, in wonder, that this boy was his, that he dedicated songs to him.

"Me?" Jesper asked incredulously.

"Yeah, there's not really much else I think about," Wylan hid his face again.

"You big sap," Jesper joked, "I've never had a song written about me before," he said, his tone more serious.
The curly haired boy turned back to face the gunslinger, placing his delicate musicians fingers on Jesper's cheek,
"You deserve every song to be written about you, there's not enough melodies in the world to describe you, darling."

Suddenly, Jesper felt his cheeks go quite hot, nothing usually makes him blush, it's hard for it to show on his dark Zemeni skin, but those words somehow got the better of him.
"I can't wait to marry you," Jesper settled on saying, because it was true, their wedding day could not come quick enough.
The musician laughed, "I can't wait to be Wylan Fahey."
He turned back to continue playing, his fingers once again dancing over the keys like a practiced routine in a musical number.
The Zemeni, still sat beside his fiance on the stool, pressed a kiss to the side of Wylan's cheek, revelling in the blush that crept up the boy's face.
They sat side by side, playing and listening, for a little while longer before Jesper broke the tranquility.
"So, what did you name the piece? You never answered that question."

"Home is wherever I'm with you," Wylan replied with a smile.

Funny, because that's exactly what Jesper was thinking about Wylan as he walked up the driveway earlier that evening.
