Chapter Text
9:16am…
Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center,or as those who worked there call it “The Pitt” was as loud and beepy and chaotic as any hospital, but today—or more so these few minutes were semi-quiet…
”Semi-quiet”Trinity thought quietly to herself as she filled out charts from patients she had a bit earlier..
but ‘quiet’ never really actually lasted long in this hospital…
Not if you were Trinity Santos atleast..
without even having to look up,she had already guessed—or known who’d be approaching
rather it was the pattern of their footsteps when they approached as usual or the fact it was the usual time they always came over..
“What is it?….” Trinity answered in her usual half-groan half-annoyed tone when she knew she was already going to be asked of to do something she knew 9 times out of 10 she didn’t wanna actually do—or something she didn’t actually wanna hear but in both cases she’d likely have to.
“Well you’re in a mood…” Dennis’ voice answered, just as she’d expected it to…Everytime.that same tone where he and Trinity both know he was either going to say something stupid or ask something stupid…both weird stupid either way…
He did make sure that he spoke again before Trinity could actually get a reply in—
“Are you okay?…—like actually…”
“I know you’re not one to speak up,But you’ve been more irritable lately and like one of those moods where you’re close to snapping at someone but have to hold it in because you’re at work—-or you—“
“And why are you asking me this for 3rd time this week?” Trinity muttered, cutting him off before he could really actually finished what he was saying
“—You’re my roommate after all, yknow.you can’t really keep stuff from me in a 2 bedroom apartment where I move around you everyday in a certain pattern and tend to notice that that pattern is…off”
Dennis’ replied, with a pause before he said the word off
Trinity furrowed her brows, shutting her eyes tightly for a moment in the way she usually did when she was either stressed, tired or wanted to tell someone off but really couldn’t…
“I’m fine.” Trinity said, exhaling loudly as she hit a key on her laptop
“But ever since y’know who came you’ve been acting all weird—“ Dennis’ spoke again, his tone lower, even doing his little thing where he leaned in to be more ‘secretive’ although it wasn’t really all that secretive…
Trinity slammed another key, louder this time…
“Is this about the Al Hashimi thing…AGAIN?”
she said, blinking over before actually turning this time to look at Dennis’ and take in his expression..which for once in a blue moon she actually couldn’t read all too well..
Dennis’ paused, letting out a shaky breath before he replied again
“Well, yeah,—ever since she’s got here and been nitpicking you—and every else for that matter it’s like you’ve been closer to snapping…I mean cmon, you practically stare holes through her during little lectures she does with Robby or when she randomly rants during patients while critiquing us all—“
“I’m probably just not used to her yet.i was kinda the same with Robby & everyone else when I first got here….”
“Is that all,farm boy?”
The nickname & her voice being in that certain tone usually meant not to push an issue further….and Dennis’ knew that.
“But—-“ Dennis’ tried to squeeze out..
But as if on cue—Javadi rushed over,in that thin layer of white fabric/plastic that covered your scrubs when you were about to go into a messy trauma…
“Dr.Robby said he wants us in on this—said it could be a good teaching for us—“
Javadi said, pointing behind her to the way to the trauma room
Trinity and Dennis’ both prepared quickly,Trinity clicking save on her earlier charting before jumping up and starting to glove up etc while walking there, when they were at the door about to walk in Javadi spoke again
“Oh!— Al-Hashimi is in there too…so try to be a bit more uhhh focused, that woman has eyes in every suture you do likely and leaps to correct even a hairs breath of a mistake…”
Trinity’s expression flickered for a second,by now she’d probably space out most of the time or disassociate throughout most of Baran’s talking or way of “teaching”
Dennis’ on the other hand shot her a knowing glance at the mention of Al-Hashimi’s name out of slight concern for his roommate but also still somewhat teasing
—>
The Whole trauma room experience in itself wasn’t bad…what went on in there wasn’t going that bad either….Al Hashimi and Robby were helping the patient, allowing each of the others to step in as learning while also going on lectures…..
Then had come Trinity’s time, she was doing a suture on the patient, brows furrowed slightly but still keeping her usual steadiness and skill…
“Trin, maybe you should—-“ Dennis’ quietly muttered out towards her
“I know what I’m doing.” Trinity bluntly, her voice wasn’t as quiet as she had thought though…..because another voice came a few seconds after
“Santos,”
“Perhaps Instead of having a quick blunt retort towards colleagues you should take some advice for once?”
Trinity didn’t have to look up to know it was Al-Hashimi,yet she still glanced up either way to scan her face and read her expression…which was hard to read,as expected.
Trinity didn’t say anything, she only paused for a moment, biting down on the inside of her mouth before continuing the sutures.
Trinity brushed off Al-Hashimi’s words,or more so ignored them until Al Hashimi hovered over her—examining.or more so critiquing every little action.
“You’re tense.” Baran Started, her voice in its usual ‘robotic’ tone as Trinity called it
“I am.im trying not to be—“ Trinity replied,half-focused now as she tried to get her attention averted back to the suture
“Your sutures aren’t getting done correctly if you’re that tense—move aside,”
Al Hashimi said…obviously she wasn’t asking..she was ordering.
ordering around as she usually did.
“I’m serious,I’ve got it—-“
Trinity fumbled her words a bit, getting cut off as Al-Hashimi forcibly nudged her out of the way to finish the sutures herself…
Dennis’ & Javadi had noticed the tension….practically the whole thing…but they’d rather pretend to be focused on their own thing that to deal with Al-Hashimi’s “wrath..” ,Robby wasn’t even in the room anymore…off to do whatever he usually did when someone called him somewhere else and it was hard to actually find him again.
Trinity only stood there, kinda dumbfounded—the same way she was the day she dropped a scalpel right into Garcia’s foot….except this time the only thing being cut into was her patience and sanity….
