Work Text:
Sakae wakes up before his alarm.
Makochi is deep in the clutches of winter and it's still dark outside the bedroom window. He watches as fat flakes of snow land and gather in fluffy clumps against the spiderwebs of frost on the aged panes, further sealing them off from the world.
He cranes his head toward the nightstand. The green numbers on the clock blur into a halo he can just about read if he squints at it.
4:37 A.M.
Sakae lets his head drop back down onto his pillow with a quiet sigh.
He keeps his alarm set even on days when he doesn't have anywhere pressing to be, just to keep the habit. Fifty-three minutes. Fifty-three minutes he's got to laze around before he has to force himself up and deal with all the responsibilities and trials of adult life, like his university courses, and that month's budget, and if he returned the cookbook he'd borrowed to the library on time, and what exactly made the apartment's front door so appealing to the neighbour's corgi that it kept pissing directly in front of it every time it managed to escape.
Maybe he could ask to switch units? Ashida-san from the next floor up was set to move into her grandson's house in a few months once he had finished making the accommodations for her, a fact Sakae had learned just last week when he helped her up their building's steep, creaking stairs after they'd become too hard on her knees.
"Your family must be very proud of having such a dutiful son." She had told him when he dropped her off at the door.
15 year old Sakae would not have been able to respond to that.
25 year old Sakae managed a nod and a simple, "Thank you. I hope so." with only the faintest lurch of his heart before turning toward the stairs and heading home.
Wind rattles the window panes and sends the gathered snow flying, only to be quickly replaced with more. Sakae is very glad he doesn't have classes today.
He blinks back to the clock.
4:50 A.M.
Forty minutes to go until his alarm. Forty minutes he can just enjoy being bundled up, surrounded on all sides by warmth and comfort and lulled by the steady sound of breathing.
If Sakae closes his eyes and tries hard enough maybe he'll actually be able to go back to sleep. It's never happened before but there's a first time for everything. What else was there to do on a morning like this?
4:53 A.M.
He becomes aware of a stiffness in his limbs from staying in one position too long, groans as he tries to stretch out.
The bundle of heat tucked against his chest stirs.
"Wh'r y'g'in?"
Haruka's voice is so slurred that Sakae isn't even sure he's conscious, reacting solely on instinct. His breath is damp and hot against Sakae's pulse, lips dragging across the tender skin and Sakae shivers at the sensation.
"Nowhere." He assures even though he doesn't think Haruka can actually hear him.
Contrary to Sakae's belief there's a satisfied huff against his neck and Haruka's body squeezes tight around him with every ounce of dead sleep strength it possesses.
One of his arms is curled under Sakae's pillow while the other clings to his waist, and he's got one of Sakae's legs trapped between both of his. Every muscle he's built up from those stupidly strong kicks of his over the years is now focused solely on keeping Sakae locked in place whether he likes it or not.
4:57 A.M.
It's not like Sakae has anywhere to be. And he's still got thirty-three minutes left before his alarm anyway.
Maybe he'll actually get back to sleep like this.
That would be nice….
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
The blare of the alarm shocks them both awake what feels like only seconds later.
Haruka's head connects hard with Sakae's chin as he jolts up, his fingers biting painfully into Sakae's skin where his hand had somehow made its way up and under his sleep shirt.
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
Eyes watering and with half his body still trapped under Haruka's, Sakae flings his lone free arm out to fumble blindly for the alarm. There's a thump and a clatter as his scrambling fingers knock something off the nightstand before finally finding the hard plastic surface and hitting the button with perhaps more force than strictly necessary.
BEEP BEEP BEE-
Silence, finally.
They both lie there for a few seconds, panting. Sakae rubs his aching jaw while Haruka massages his head.
"Whatth'ell?" Haruka at least sounds like he's awake now, though his voice is scratchy and still sleep rough.
Sakae drops his hand to Haruka's back and runs it up and down in apology, "Sorry…"
He punctuates this by tilting his head down to press a kiss against the fluffy crown of black and white hair. Normally he turns his alarm off when he wakes up early on his free days, he can own up to his mistake.
"Mrrrrrrr." Haruka says, intelligently.
Well. It is 5:30 in the morning.
Sakae doesn't mean to laugh, really. He graciously accepts the jab in his kidney.
The wind has picked up outside, a vicious howl cutting through Haruka's sleepy growls and Sakae's mirth. There's a shower of ice pellets against the window and they both crane their heads to watch as the winter storm intensifies before their very eyes.
An excellent day to stay indoors.
But Sakae is well and truly awake now and that means there's things to do. Even though he would much rather stay in bed and wrapped tight around Haruka, who seems to have given up on his quest for vengeance against Sakae and is now curling in on himself as Sakae eases out of bed.
The air is cool against Sakae's bare legs as he peels himself out of their little blanket cocoon, and his foot connects with whatever he knocked off the nighstand earlier as it hits the floor. He squints down in the dim light of their bedroom, reaching for the red blob. Oh, his glasses case. He breathes a silent sigh of relief when he finds them unharmed upon opening before setting it back in place; a new pair was definitely not in that month's budget.
Something grips the back of his shirt as he makes to stand up. Sakae looks back over his shoulder.
Haruka's eyes are shut and his face is buried in his own pillow, curled so tight in both blankets and the sheet that it's hard to tell where he ends and they begin. One of his arms is stretched out toward Sakae, hand fisted in the fabric of his shirt.
"Th'hell 're you goin'?"
Sakae is asking himself the same question as another gust of wind rattles the window panes and sends a shiver up the now bared skin of his back, but he has to be resolute. If he's staying home today then there's plenty that needs doing.
"I've got homework," he protests. True, but not as if it can't wait.
A muffled growl sounds from the depths of Haruka's pillow.
"We have to clean the bathroom." Not a lie, they had gotten a little…enthusiastic in the bath last night. Sakae is still sore if he's being honest; it was a bit cramped but they'd made it work.
Another disbelieving growl, louder this time.
Sakae can feel his resolve crumbling with each passing second. Plus, it's chilly in just his thin t-shirt and boxers.
"I should make breakfast. You're hungry, aren't you?" After a decade together he's learned well the most direct path to Haruka's heart. He should have just started with that.
This time Haruka drags his face out of his pillow, opening his left eye to level Sakae with a weak glare. With his sleep mussed hair, glazed eye, and flushed face squished cutely against his pillow he doesn't cut a terribly intimidating figure, but Sakae feels his knees go weak nonetheless.
After a decade together he still can't say no to Haruka.
Haruka's arm slithers back under the blankets as Sakae swings his legs back into bed.
"We'll have to get up at some point." Sakae says, a final attempt at bartering as he tugs the blankets aside and slides underneath. Haruka immediately latches on, arms wound tight around Sakae's torso while he shoves their legs together.
Haruka blinks at him slowly, expression satisfied now that he's succeeded in tempting Sakae back to bed, "S'fuckin' early."
"I'll make it up to you."
Haruka is usually still sound asleep when Sakae leaves for class, not having to get up for work until a few hours later and not having adopted Sakae's early riser tendencies. Sakae doesn't mind, though. Not in the slightest. And there's something…something right about feeling Haruka's arms wrap around him from behind when he's in the kitchen in the morning, hands pressing into his belly while he nuzzles against his back.
"Hmmmm." Haruka doesn't look like he believes Sakae for a second, fully expecting Sakae to wiggle his way back out of bed the second he closes his eyes.
"Promise." Sakae assures him, pressing in closer so their foreheads touch and feeling Haruka's brows draw down as he does so.
Their breaths mingle as they lie there in the cozy dimness, the gusting wind and snowfall outside narrowing the whole world down to just the two of them. Haruka's thick eyelashes flutter against Sakae's as he fights to stay awake.
Sakae feels Haruka's lips move as if he's attempting another rebuttal. He doesn't waste another second covering them with his own.
Haruka sighs softly against his mouth, both hands now tightening on Sakae's shirt for a different reason. Sakae laps at the seam of his lips until they part, slipping inside and catching on the points of sharp teeth. Haruka bites down gently and Sakae moans in spite of himself, instinctively rocking their hips together. He hadn't meant for this to get too heated but Haruka clearly has other ideas about how Sakae can repay him for waking him up in the near dead of night by his standards.
He pulls back to bump their noses together. Haruka's eyes are half-lidded but alert, fixed on Sakae's as his hands creep down his back to slide under his shirt.
"Haruka…." he starts, and then whatever he might want to say next is cut off as one of Haruka's thighs presses up between his legs, stirring him to half mast in seconds, "Hah…Haruka."
Haruka kisses him this time, kitten licks and gentle nips at his jaw, his cheeks, the corner of his mouth before finally sliding their lips together. It's messy and warm and wonderful, and Sakae opens his mouth eagerly to let Haruka take his fill. Sakae doesn't even bother to stop the moan that tumbles out this time, back arching as blunt nails drag down over the knobs of his spine.
They're both panting when they finally part, hearts beating frantically together where their chests are pressed flush. Sakae cups his hands under Haruka's ass, pulling him in closer even as he grinds down against Haruka's thigh. Haruka presses up harder and the friction makes Sakae screw his eyes shut, his belly warm and tight. He can feel Haruka's own erection trapped in the confines of his shorts where its pinned between them, a damp patch already spreading as he seeks friction of his own. It's not enough. Sakae wants. He wants.
Sakae tilts his head back without thinking as Haruka nudges against his jaw, gasping as teeth graze across the tender skin of his neck. It's gentle at first, barely a brush, more lips than teeth as Haruka leaves a warm, wet trail downward. By the time Haruka reaches the pulse point Sakae is nearly breathless, biting back a curse as sharp canines dig in hard enough to mark, bucking his hips against Haruka's strong thigh as they moan together. He's so hard it aches, precum leaking freely and easing the slide as he rocks back and forth.
Haruka doesn't sound much better, ragged breath hot and short against Sakae's skin and face flushed when he pulls up to meet Sakae's eyes again. Even with the dimness of the room and without his glasses, the warmth of Haruka's gold and grey eyes is unmistakable.
Sakae can feel himself melting.
The next kiss is hurried, sloppy, and it's clear that both of them are getting close. Tongues tangle, teeth catch and nip, moans traded and swallowed as they lose themselves in heat and friction.
Sakae isn't sure which one of them comes first. He thinks he hears Haruka try to say his name, tripping over the syllables as their pace grows arhythmic, it's hard to tell over the roaring of his own blood in his ears as his heart tries to beat out of his chest. All he feels is Haruka's other leg squeeze tight around him while the thigh between his legs pushes up, his body going rigid and stars bursting in his vision as his orgasm hits him all at once. He comes with a choked off shout, anchored in place by Haruka's grip.
Outside the wind howls, unceasing. Inside there is only the sound of satisfied panting, the slick sound of lips meeting in unhurried kisses.
Limbs untangle as they come back to themselves, readjusting to a careful, relaxed hold.
Haruka's eyes are closed again and Sakae's are halfway there. His body aches pleasantly, the post-coital haze just enough that he can almost ignore the mess he's made of his boxers. He mentally adds laundry to the list of chores that need to get done today since Haruka's are surely just as bad, not to mention the sheets. And they'll both need a shower, a proper one this time. He'll get started after breakfast, but what to make? Sakae hums thoughtfully to himself as he tries once more to rise out of bed.
He jolts as Haruka pinches his side, laughing as he repeats the motion until finally relenting and going in for another kiss. Haruka turns his head away, stubborn.
"Haruka…" Sakae can't help but grin fondly.
"S'fuckin' early." Haruka grumbles again as if that will explain everything.
"I have to get up. You want to eat, don't you?"
Haruka's left eye pops open, "Thought y'said you'd make it up t'me?"
Sakae can see exactly where this is going, "I did…." he hedges.
"So you're not goin' anywhere. Stayin' right here."
With that Haruka's eye closes again, apparently content that he's made his argument and dropping promptly back to sleep.
Sakae risks a glance at the window.
It's almost entirely covered by snow, only thin streaks of leaden grey sky showing through the gaps.
A yawn creeps up on Sakae and he shivers even in the warm nest of their blankets, tiredness creeping back in despite his best efforts. Haruka's arms tighten around him as he snuggles back in, and Sakae doesn't miss the self-satisfied smirk that spreads across his sleeping face.
It really is shaping up to be a miserable day outside. Maybe Sakae can just stay in bed a little longer.
Just a few more minutes can't hurt.
