Summary
After reuniting with the 118 (three years after dropping the lawsuit and leaving and two years after having started a secret relationship with Eddie) Buck is back for his last couple months working as a smokejumper before officially returning to LA. The crew jumps one of their remotest fires yet, in a place where the only help they've got is one another and their wits. And the weather is not on their side.

Summary
After the fight in the grocery store, Buck feels like he's causing too much damage so he drops the lawsuit and leaves LA, joining a hotshot wildland firefighter crew out of Montana. He's gone for six months until he gets a call from Chris that something is wrong with Eddie, causing him to race back home only to find a very confused Eddie instead of a hurt or depressed Eddie. Eddie talks him into coming inside for a beer and after that Buck can't bring himself to leave the Diaz boys behind again. But that doesn't mean he's ready to talk to anyone else yet. So they just don't tell anyone else Buck is back. For over two years. Even when they start dating.
Three years after he left LA and the 118, there's a pileup on the 210 in La Tuna Canyon Park and a wildfire racing towards all the crews scrambling desperately to get everyone out in time, including the 118. Buck's crew is in the right place at the right time, and they don't hesitate to come help.

Eddie jolted as he heard the whistling rasp that was slipping out of Buck’s mouth.
“Hey,” Eddie said, his limbs feeling like they were moving through molasses as he fought himself onto the clearer side of waking up. “What’s—”
“I… Can’t…” Buck gasped before he swallowed audibly. “I’m having t-trouble… b-breath-ing.”

“And you think maybe you’re just really great friends with this guy, but then you start to think about how you can’t imagine what your life was really like before him, and you really don’t want to imagine what your life would be like without him.”
“Holy shit,” Buck breathes, nodding still. “Yeah, all of that. How’d you…”
“Have you considered that you may be bisexual, Buck?”
Buck turns back to TK, frowning. “No? I mean, maybe?” He groans and leans forward to set his coffee mug down before he throws himself back against the couch, running his hands down his face. “I guess I haven’t really tried to label it? It’s not something I really thought about before—”
“—Eddie?”
(Buck's struggling with his feelings, so he does the only logical thing to do: he drives 20 hours to Texas after a 24-hour shift by himself to seek out help from some new friends.)

Athena learned her lesson after she arrested a girl for bullying May. This time she devised a better plan to protect Buck after hearing a certain girlfriend was homophobic towards her son. Buck refused to tell Eddie, so now it was in Athena's hands for justice.
