Don't let the title fool you, this is a fix-it.
(Epilogue to Crossing Lines, but can be read on its own)
***
There is a ring on Cas’ finger with a shining white surface, and he is holding a tall black scythe.“Cas?” Dean says again, with more fear this time. He can’t. He can’t do this. He can’t.
Chuck is staring at Cas too. They all are. Chuck’s eyes actually pop, nearly bulging, the surprise in his face tinged with something like rage.
“You!” he snaps. “You’re not even in this story, your part is long over. Why aren’t you dead? This isn’t even about you, it never was! Why, in my own damn name, aren’t you dead?”
Cas takes two steps forward.
“Good question,” he says, his voice all gravel, and swings Death’s scythe down in one long arc, lopping off Chuck’s head.

Summary
Complete!
Dean hasn't seen his father in ten years. And now, he and his partner Castiel have been invited to spend Christmas with John and his new family.
The invitation stirs up feelings and memories for both Castiel and Dean, of the good times, and the bad. A lot can change in ten years - and a lot can stay the same.

This AU fic is a wonderful journey through Dean and Cas' relationship, and focuses especially on the effects of Dean's traumas from before he met Cas. The characters, even all the secondary ones, are so well-developed, and everything is very realistic. Dean and Cas' relationship is true to life, with ups and downs and struggles to understand each other's issues and deal with their own. I have an obsession with Dean angst, and this fic delivered, including the essential hard-won happy ending!

It seems I'm starting to collect "Dean deals with his internalized homophobia" fics, and this is the best I've read yet. Such poetic writing!

I never thought I'd love another finale fixit as much as Miracles, but now I do! This is a beautiful, complex vision of Dean's (and Cas' and Sam's) lives had both Dean and Cas lived. Although I'm primarily a Dean girl, I found the Cas pov sections to be particularly poetic. And I'm always a sucker for Dean in therapy, which is handled so believably here. This is the future our boys (and Eileen) deserved!
This is part two to another fic, Crossing Lines, which is beautiful too, but I prefer this part if you read only one. But why not read both?

The perfect antidote to all of that cringy SPN sexism and misogyny over the years. I also love it because Dean's taste in music makes me want to vomit sometimes (Bon Jovi!?) and this fic remedies that. Now I must read all of this author's other work because I can't believe I haven't read it before...

This is my favorite end of series fix-it fic. Cas is not dead and forgotten, Sam actually does first aid and gets Dean to a hospital instead of doing nothing when Dean gets impaled, and there is lots of realistic medical and psychological stuff, which I love.
