Pain. It was supposed to be associated with suffering, torture, destined to always have a negative connotation in his lexicon. But right now, in this moment with her, as his heart constricted painfully in his chest, he relished in it, in the fact that he loved her so deeply that it actually hurt and that she loved him back with equal ferocity. He let out a shaky breath before bringing his hand up to cup her cheek and kiss her in a desperate attempt to somehow pour all his love into her in hopes that it would keep her there because she was becoming his anchor, keeping him weighted to this mortal plane.

He doesn’t say anything. Anxiety bubbles up inside her all over again, and in seconds, she’s sure that she’s crossed a line, ruined this. Whatever this is. In a small voice, she adds, “Couldn’t we?”
Betty and Jughead get married for the FAFSA benefits. It goes about as well as can be expected, considering that Betty has a life-ruining crush on her new husband.

After Klaus leaves Stefan to keep an eye on Elena, Damon and Bonnie come up with a plan to keep everyone including Elena safe. However it requires Elena to be magically sent somewhere safe and nobody would know its whereabouts, including Bonnie and Damon. Instead of sending her to be with a family friend, the spell sends her back to Mystic Falls in 1864. Deciding her only option to keep Klaus away is to run with the best, Elena teams up with Katherine to play orphan twins. However, both doppelgangers are using each other. In return for Katherine's help, Elena is tasked with keeping Damon occupied while Katherine is with Stefan. How will Elena return home? Was Damon right, and would she like the human version of him? This is a non-canon AU work based on Jughead and Betty during their college years. They have no prior relationship before meeting in Rome, Italy.
This is a story primarily about Bughead, with a bit of Varchie as it helps advance the plot. Other characters from Riverdale featured as needed.

Consistency is one way to avoid shock. You can't be freaked if you know what's going to happen. Sure, Jughead maybe cynical but not without his reasons. He was still plastered to the side of Archie and shielded by the tough exterior of Veronica but he did not foresee the return of Betty Cooper with a secret she cannot hide or how she would fit seamlessly back into his very consistently, ordinary life.
