Summary
“Would you want me to wear a skirt for Halloween?” Hao asks, catching him off guard.
Hanbin blinks, and suddenly the image is there, uninvited. Hao in a skirt. Hao in makeup. Hao looking like the girls Hanbin is supposed to be attracted to but never really is. The girls he pretends make his heart race the way Hao does when he’s near.
Hao would be beautiful. He’d look like a girl. A girl Hanbin could like.
“You’d look like a girl though,” Hanbin jokes, expecting Hao to laugh. He doesn’t.
The silence makes Hanbin’s smile falter. Hao’s voice comes out quieter when he asks, “Would I be pretty as a girl?”
Hanbin swears he’s straight. Then Hao in a skirt starts to mess with his locus of control. The nurse outfit on Halloween is the final nail in the coffin.

But what is he supposed to say? Hi, it’s me, your cat, I was once human and now I am again because I love you and the thought of someone else getting to made me desperate enough to ask the gods? He couldn’t put that on Hanbin, not like this. Not when he knows the lonely life that had led his heart to Hanbin’s in the first place.
Zhang Hao, a familiar for most of his life, makes a wish to be human again. Hanbin, village witch who never puts himself first, finds himself falling fast for the strange new man in town whose heart beats in time with his own.

He cleared his throat, a brief, awkward laugh slipping out. “Though, I’m not even sure we can call it dating, can we?” He glanced sideways, his expression unreadable. “You never actually showed up for a date. Yeah we didn’t date…” He took a few steps ahead, his boots crunching over the dirt, then tossed the final words over his shoulder, sharp as glass. “We just fucked.”
